PowerPC :: EMac From 110V Environment To 220V?

Oct 6, 2008

I just brought 2 eMacs from the States to Europe (Spain), thus both machines are not "out of the box" ready to cope with the european 220V.

I've googled searching for answers on and found this post. Apparently, removing a jumper does the trick just fine. My question is which one, because there's two jumpers in that region of the motherboard. See images:

I have taken some images (sorry, with my cellular), I wonder which of the two jumpers has to be removed, the one with two lines (as shown in the picture), or the other one (single cable) in the left-bellow.

Intel Mac :: 110v Or 220v - Which Gives Quality Electricity, Run Cooler Better

Mar 31, 2012

The iMac having a maximum wattage of 350w, would it be better to plug it in a 110v outlet or a 220v outlet. Which outlet has cleaner electricity/less noise and which will make the iMac work better, last longer or operate better. Which will save money? I heard 220v is better for hight powered gadgets and appliances, at 350w, is this iMac a high powered or a low powered machine?

Will using a 60w on the new model or the 85w on the old model be detrimental to our machines.

MacBook Pro :: Power Brick Dead - Charger No Light Lit Up On It

Jan 23, 2010

I went upstairs last night to find my Macbook Pro's charger had no light lit up on it. I tried everything including changing wall sockets, resetting the SMC, with and without the battery - nothing! I then noticed I could feel the electrical current on my Macbook Pro and then it started, a loud ticking coming from the brick. It's dead. It's just under 18 months old. Apple has said that I have no Applecare, no tech support and no warranty so buy a new one. I thought electronics HAD to have a 2-year warranty on them in Europe? Can I take that to apple? It's 60 for a new one and things like this shouldn't fail after just 17 months.

It's the old 85W type. The guy at Apple told me they only do the "new" 60W types. Can I use these with a June '08 Macbook Pro? I've had no end of problems with my MBP. I may call an end to Apple - I'm not happy paying over the odds for this Macbook less than 18 months ago for it to have had so many problems already.

Will apple do anything to compensate for the hassle that I went through?? And the customer satisfaction definitely went down.

MacBook :: New 60W MagSafe Power Adapter Doesn't Work?

Oct 10, 2010

I recently bought a new charger called the 60W MagSafe Power Adapter, for some reason for the first time when I plug it into my Leopard Macbook, it works. But when I take it out and plug it back in, it doesn't seem to charge. I would have to remove my battery and place it in again for the charger to charge my macbook. I don't think the charger is the problem because it charges on my macbook Tiger fine.

My MacBook Pro 13" (Mid 2010) doesn't go to sleep, when I close the lid or when I try to activate sleep under the Apple menu. I haven't changed nothing in the system preferences. I already tried the following: unplugged all USB devices plugged and unplugged external display closed all applications (except of Finder of course) resetted all energy saving preferences deactivated bluetooth checked share options (everything is deactivated)

Then I unplugged it from the power supply and after I closed the lid, it went to sleep. Then plugged in power supply again and sleep didn't work.

Power Mac :: Getting A G5 To Work Wirelessly With AT&T?

Feb 21, 2012

I have a G5 and am moving it downstairs to replace my wife's old Dell PC. But I need it to now work wirelessly.

I had this computer upstairs next to the AT&T modem and ran an ethernet cable to it. The Dell has a LINKSYS USB54GC adapter which let it work wirelessly.

Can I somehow use this on my G5, or do I need to purchase a ASUS USB-N10 EZ Network Adapter?  Add 802.11b/g/n wireless capability to any Mac or PC with available USB Port. Sells for $27.99 at Other World Computing.

Power PC :: Mac PowerBook Won't Charge / Get It To Work?

Oct 18, 2009

Having an issue charging my mac. When I plug the charger into my mac, it turns orange, so I know its charging, but no matter how long I leave it in for it never has enough power to turn on.

If I move the charger around slightly at an angel in the hole it turns green and only then will it turn on, but the moment the green light goes back to orange the laptop turns off.

When I do manage to get it turned on, it says there is 0% battery.

I've tried using different chargers so could the problem be with the connector in the laptop?

PowerPC :: Using Power Mac G4 As A Media And TM Server - Will This Work

Jan 21, 2009

We've got two laptops in the house (my Powerbook 12 and wife's Macbook) and I've just bought an old 500Mhz AGP Power Mac G4 from eBay, partly to mess around with, partly because it was a great deal, and partly because I want to use it as a media server. What I'd like to do is have:

- iPhoto running on the server - cameras would be plugged in there, photos downloaded etc and photos streamed to the Apple TV

- iTunes running on the server - other machines in the house plus the Apple TV accessing the shared server

- printer sharing running through the server

- Time Machine partitions set up on the server for both my wife and I - set up as double our raw drive space (so 160GB and 320GB)

I've already upped the RAM to 1.25GB and swapped in two 120GB IDE drives. I'm looking to add a Sonnet PCI SATA card and a couple of 1TB Samsung drives, one to host the media and one to host the Time Machine partitions. The media drive would then be backed up weekly to an offboard brick.

So before I go ahead with this grand plan, I thought I'd solicit views on whether it's likely to work, where the bear traps are etc. I guess some of the specific questions I have include:

- is there likely to be a performance issue with the PowerMac in this role?

- can I stream photos to an Apple TV? I know it works with iTunes but thought I'd check on iPhoto

- would Time Machine work OK over a network? Any issue with hosting two TM partitions on the same drive?

The Power Mac is running Tiger, the others are running Leopard.

Mac Pro :: 2008 Power Supply Work On 2006?

I tried the "search" box before making this thread. Would like to know if the power supply from a 2008 MacPro work on a 2006 MacPro. If anyone has tried this? My 2006 MacPro shut down suddenly and would not turn on. I use an APC UPS plugged on a power surge outlet. The Mac technician who examined the unit suspected it might be the power supply but Apple may not have in stock the power supply for the Ist Gen MacPro.
