Is there a fix for the new virus that hit apple computers called "FLASHBACK"?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've used the tools to verify that I indeed do not have the flashback virus. But I've read it comes from updating flash player I believe, I could be wrong, that's why I'm here. I'm not the most tech savvy, relatively new to macs, how do I know if it's safe to update flash player? I've read numerous people saying if you do so you're screwed, just wanted to make sure before I risk screwing up my mbp.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy internet will be cut off in 48 hours unless I remove this virus. I got an e-mail saying I was infected with this flashback virus. I called Rogers to confirm that it wasn't a phishing e-mail and it is legitimate. The only thing they did was give me numbers to a paid technical support line, I'd prefer not to call and pay. I went online and found a tutorial for removing it using Terminal, which I tried and got the error messages which apparently means I'm not affected. How do I remove this virus before my internet gets cut off? I am operating a MAC OSX 10.5.8 software system on my macbook?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI bought a new higher spec (MD322X/A) MBP three months ago (yeah, so I'm a newbie from Windows and didn't know how close WWDC was) that has 1GB of video memory. The About This Mac window reports 512MB of memory. I called JB where I bought it and the guy said this is fine and it will report 1GB in system properties, which it does appear to but I'm not yet convinced that all is well. So, apart from paying 3 months ago what I could have bought a retina display for today, is it normal to report 512MB in the About This Mac window if I have 1GB? Also, after the spontaneous purchase of the MBP because JB didn't have a new iPad in stock, they don't appear to be that much cheaper than other retailers anyway?Â

It appears that either disk utility or finder are misreporting the free space available on my main partition. Finder indicates there's 33GB available and disk utility inidcates there's only 23GB available. Anyone know why there's a discrepancy? Which figure is the right one? Also I'm trying to resize the partition (to be smaller) but disk utility always errors out on my. I want to increase the size of my windows partition since i'm finding I need the space there more than I need it in OS X.

I'm trying to clear out my iMac 10.4 OS X because I'm handing it off to a friend (moving overseas, can't keep it anymore) so I've been deleting most of the stuff off the drive...I had a folder titled 'keeping' which is obviously the stuff I wanted to transfer to an external hard drive, it was about 50 GB worth of stuff. I updated everything on the mac and then restarted it and now I can't find that folder. All that's on my desktop is the 'Macintosh HD' icon, and not the 'keeping' folder. I've searched multiple times on the finder and on the computer in general for this folder, by name, by files in it and nothing!
Yet, it says I have only 137.44 GB free (out of 250 GB) and I literally have nothing else on the computer (my iTunes library also got wiped, but I'm not as worried about that).I tried 'showing all hidden files' with the command function and I couldn't find it and then I tried running the disk utility on the drive and got the message of "The underlying task reported failure on exit" and that it needs repairing.
I've screenshot it here: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3094/picture1puo.png
or here if that's too big: http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/8417/picture1pua.png
You can see it's in there. I have 95 GB used and 523,499 files on it somewhere but I have no way of finding it!
I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a 12" PowerBook 1.5 GHz with 1.25 GB of RAM and an 80 GB HD. When I run the disk Utility to Verify Disk, it ends with the message, "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit." This happens if I run the Disk Utility from the hard drive, from the OSX installation disk or from an external hard drive. The Repair Drive button is always grayed out no matter where I am running the disk Utility from, too. I have cloned the entire hard drive onto an external drive with Carbon Copy Cloner. I know PPC systems won't boot from a USB drive, but I was considering booting from the install disk, re-formatting the drive from there and then re-installing from the external by running CCC from there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedGet Info overstates the free space on my boot drive. Disk Utility reports ~295 GB; Get Info reports ~467 GB out of 500.

My girlfriend downloaded a bunch of programs and I noticed her Windows installation was a lot slower than when it was fresh. She has an antivirus program called "Uniblue RegistryBooster" and I was wondering if that was a reputable antivirus program or something malicious.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new 2TB Time Capsule, and had problems completing the initial backup. I finally sourced the problem to files that were buried deep in a stack of folders, which seemed to make the file name/path too long. Anyway before I realized that I tried to reformat the Time Machine, and this seemed to work ok. However Airport Utility is now reporting the Time Capsule Disk Size as being 1.8TB, rather than 2TB.
I think before I reformatted the disk it showed as being 2TB in this menu, but I cannot be sure. I am worried that I have somehow formatted it wrong and lost some data space? If I go into Disk Utility, it does say there that the Data partition is 2TB, so it seems strange that Airport Utility shows it at 1.8TB. Can someone else who has the 2TB Time Capsule let me know whether in Airport Utility it shows as being 2TB or 1.8TB?
Disk Warrior reported a damaged resource header that cannot be repaired. The resource header is in an "older" file format (rsrc). I have been having fairly frequent freezes of the system and Disk Utility reporting a corrupted HD which Disk Unility is always able to repair and report the HD to be O.K. Could the damaged header be the cause of the freezes? If so, can anything be done about it if Warrior says it cannot be repaired?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe initial instructions are: 1. Run the following command in Terminal: ls -lA ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ 2. Take note of the filename. Proceed only when you have one file. In item 2,based on multiple results,my apparent next step would be to contact "our customer care" but I am not F-Secure customer and instructions as to exactly whom and how I am to contact them are lacking. For various reasons I did have Java installed and enabled in Safari.

Sitting here, a bit paranoid after recent newflash bout mac trojans. Trying to follow instructions from F-secure on how to detect if my computers been infected .They say i must use terminal and use a command like this: defaults read /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment. When i do this its all ok, but the problem is i am using chrome as browser. Cant find a single note, googling on how to search for the trojan if youre using chrome, so i turn this way to ask the pros (?) how to deal with this. Â
Is flashback able to affect chrome and how do i detect it?Â

Why is Apple not addressing the issue of the Flashback Trojan? It is a tad disconcerting to have to rely on third-party advice, much of which seems rather iffy.
I am quite sure that most Apple customers are waiting for some sort of Official response and clear directives as to how to a) figure out whether ones computer has been hit by the virus, and b) how to safely address it.Â

I just heard about Flashback and wonder if my computer (or possibly iPhone) is infected. My iTunes account was recently hacked and I received over $70 in charges for purchases I did not make. I was told that Flashback can and does hijack usernames and passwords. I installed and ran iAntiVirus but it didn't pick up anything. I also have an iPhone and an iPad that I access my iTunes store from quite frequently.

I had one of 15 of these laptops in the same room and it did not let the user login to a web-based grading site. The MacBook did log in for me at home but, there was a delay with a brief webpage saying something about so many seconds to redirect. (Could not read it all.) I never experienced a delay before using this web-based grading site.
