Just got done loading 8gb of ram and my OCZ vertex 2 ssd 40gb. Load Time of apps is amazing. My one question is boot time went from 48 seconds to 33. Should I be getting better. I used carbon copy to clone drve and I'm only using 14 gb of the 40 that's there. I domhave to say these setup screams at certain jobs.
View 3 RepliesAfter deleting windows 7, I went back into boot camp to merge partitions and after that operation completed, the 32gb of space that was used for the partition was gone. I tried using the disk utility to find second partition but can't, it only recognizes the partition that mac osx is on and says it is 120gb capacity when hard drive is 150 gb. I would like to format the entire hard drive and have it as one partition again

So my macbook is just a few days old, but i think i found something weird with the dvd drive. Its my first mac, so i dont know about this. But is it common that i have to push the whole dvd/cd inside the drive before it know its a dvd/cd there, its just a tiny bit of cd/dvd to spot before it takes it and sucks it inside. I thought, when over the half of the cd/dvd in, it sucks the cd/dvd inside automaticly. Seems weird i have to push it all inside before something happens. Is this normal? Also it makes alot of noise at the start, when it sucks it in

I have a macmini late 09 and I upgraded the RAM and HDD 2 weeks ago. Suddenly today the mini froze coming out of sleep. O left it for a few minutes but still no luck. Held down the power button and it rebooted. It goes to the apple screen and stays there. I checked the hardware and there are no problems. I then booted in from the older HDD and had no problems. I checked the permissions and repaired them.
View 2 Replies View Related One of the drives in our 2009 mac mini server 2009 has died. I have taken apart many minis so have no problem taking it apart to replace, but does anyone know which drive is the primary, "Server HD" drive? Would it be the top drive (first drive you come across during disassembly) or the bottom drive closer to the logic board with the two pads stuck on? Just wondering if anyone knows for sure so I can avoid removing the drive that's still working fine.
Also, to keep the server running in the mean time, I am booting to the second drive which is working fine. Just curious, once the dead primary drive is replaced , can I simply use carbon copy clone to copy back from the 2nd drive, or will I need to install snow leopard server back onto the new drive?
Now that I have a New Mac Mini, What is the best internal hard disk to upgrade it with. I'm thinking dependability first and one that's quiet. Now that the Seagate 500gb 7200rpm drive is at v.4 it seems the way to go, just want to make sure. The Hitachi TravelStar 7K320 320gb is a cheaper option if its just as good or better for dependability and silent/cool operation. And on reading some reviews of the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb 5400 it seems a very good drive too and maybe just as fast as the higher priced and faster spinning Seagate.

Here's a fun problem. After installing Sophos anti-virus and starting a (VERY slow) full scan, a day or two later I found my iMac frozen at the screensaver. It was completely unresponsive so I did a hard reboot, at which point it got as far as starting to boot Lion (apple logo on screen, spinning indicator showing) before stalling indefinitely in that state with the indicator spinning.
I restarted and booted from the recovery partition, launched disk utility, and discovered that the SMART status of the drive was "failing". The machine would still boot from the recovery partition and my boot camp partition, but I assumed that the disk failing was why the OSX partition wouldn't boot (the recovery partition worked, as did the windows 7 bootcamp partition). I replaced the factory-installed internal HDD with another of the same make, model, and capacity (Seagate 1TB), and performed a restore from the Time Machine backup on my Drobo.
The result was the same as the original problem - it wouldn't boot, hung with the indicator spinning. Thinking that the Sophos scan was somehow responsible (in-progress when the last TM backup was made) I tried restoring to a backup a few days older, (to the best of my recall from BEFORE I downloaded Sophos) only to have the same result.
Anyone have any ideas? I made a clean install of Lion (using the recovery partition on my old internal HDD, now connected externally via USB) to an external drive while I was waiting for the replacement hard disk to arrive, and it boots fine from that. I haven't tried a clean install to the internal HDD yet, as I'd obviously prefer to recover my installed apps as they were before, that being the point of a Time Machine backup, right?

I am going to remove the Superdrive from my 2009 mini and replace it with a second HD as detailed by ifixit [URL] I will then run OS X from the X-25M SSD and the second drive will be a 320Gb Scorpio Black which I will run XP in boot camp from ( have to use additional internal drive to boot XP from since the X25-M currently will not work with XP and I cant get XP to boot from an external drive...). This leaves my setup without a way to work with optical media so I was looking to get an external usb drive and plug it in whenever I would need to install something from a dvd, or burn a cd etcetera.
Instead of throwing away the removed superdrive though and buy another drive, how about recycling it as an external usb superdrive? I would connect it via usb with a Deltaco sata to usb adapter I have. Anyone see a reason why this would not work? Has this been done before?
i wanted to upgrade my hard drive will any hardrive fit it or has it got to be something special?

Ive tried to connect it to the tv with audio with two cables: a minidisplayport/hdmi cable and the audio jack/RCA cable. The video works just fine, but the audio is not working. The computer doesn't even recognize the tv as an audio output device. I found out that only macbook pro's made after late 2010 support audio through the HMDI cable so i was trying to find a cable that will support audio on my 2009 macbook pro.

Last Friday, my half charged Macbook Pro randomly turned off and was unresponsive. No sleep/power indicator light, no start up chime, nothing. The only thing that works is the battery indicator light. I have tried a PRAM reset, SMC reset, everything suggested on this website and in the manual. My CPU fan seems to be running fast a lot on my late 2009 IMac. When I wake my system up in the morning the CPU fan is running at 939rpm. After 20 minutes of surfing I can hear it and it is at 2456rpm. All of the internal temps are around the same.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased my mac and I had this problem once already, but it fixed it quickly with a safe reboot. When I turn it on the chimes go and the grey screen appears with the apple logo and loading bar. The loading bar disappears before showing any progress and goes straight to the apple logo with the gray spinning wheel. I've tried doing a safe boot, along with resetting the PRAM and SMC, but nothing works.

I'm seeing most of the sleeves on Amazon are listed as being for the other Macbook (the unibody aluminum one) I want a snug fit, and the power adapter shouldn't be factored into this decision, as I don't want a messenger bag, I will carry my Macbook in my backpack, so we're good there. Price range is under $40 USD including shipping. I was at the Apple store last week, and I looked at the Paul Frank ones, I don't need a designer case, I want one that will protect it, and that's about it.
