I have a macmini late 09 and I upgraded the RAM and HDD 2 weeks ago. Suddenly today the mini froze coming out of sleep. O left it for a few minutes but still no luck. Held down the power button and it rebooted. It goes to the apple screen and stays there. I checked the hardware and there are no problems. I then booted in from the older HDD and had no problems. I checked the permissions and repaired them.
View 2 RepliesJust got done loading 8gb of ram and my OCZ vertex 2 ssd 40gb. Load Time of apps is amazing. My one question is boot time went from 48 seconds to 33. Should I be getting better. I used carbon copy to clone drve and I'm only using 14 gb of the 40 that's there. I domhave to say these setup screams at certain jobs.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a g5 dual core 2.3ghz from late 05 modal with 4GB DDR533 certifed memory, recently i always had random KPs. i'd tried to reinstall a clean OS 10.5.8 right now still the same. Ran memtest everything seems fine. i didnt use any firewaire devices or usb, just the apple original alu keyboard and mighty mouse, 23inch Cinema HD lcd display monitor thats it!
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy late 2006 macbook running 10.4.11 has been acting very strange since yesterday. first, it freezes while i'm recording something off of isight and i have to restart. works fine for 30 minutes until it randomly restarts (probably due to heat) and takes me two reboots and some time to fix it (i have to put an ice pack to keep it cool). then later in the night, it randomly restarts again and takes two reboots to get it back. then in the past hour, the screen has frozen, it went into a kernel panic and it randomly restarted again while i was trying to post this the first time. and also, it's been running very hot despite having no applications running.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Mac Mini and all technical help is closed right now. I am very frustrated as the one I bought yesterday had no display output. The system starts and gets to a screen that has what looks to be a switch that needs to be changed. I have looked at the entire box and can not see a switch that needs to be changed. I have taken a picture and have put it on here. I have googled it and can not find anything. My mouse and keyboard are both new wireless so I have nothing I can even use there. I am enclosing a picture of the screen. I also only have power and monitor plugged in.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI came home for lunch today, and found my Mac Mini G4 with the fan running, and a blank screen. It was obviously locked up. System has 10.5.2 with all of the latest updates. This is not my primary system, I have an MBP for that.
Here is what I did:
Force a power off/on, and I get the normal gray screen with the Apple, and spinning gear, but it never stops spinning.
I'd been noticing recently that my mini would periodically give me the gray screen of death when I'd boot it up, but after holding down the power to shut it down and restarting everything would be fine. I didn't think too much of it. I just moved out of my old place and into my new place and now my mini is doing it much more frequently. I just hooked it up for the first time since moving and I had to do the shut down/start up process three times before I got into OSX.
Then I shut down OSX just to try it again... same exact results. It took three restarts to be able to boot up again. Does anybody know what might cause something like this? The only thing I can think of is that maybe something is up with the RAM. I did upgrade the RAM to 2x2 gig of OWC memory a few months back, but never saw anything like this happening. When the computer is running I haven't noticed any strange issues.
I have a Mac Mini that my sister gave me because she said it stopped working. She said she wanted me to get all her photos off of it. Its a Model A1176 1.66/2X512/80/COMBO/AP/BT I tried playing with it and it powers up, shows the Apple on a grey screen with a spinning little icon.. It does that for about 30 sec and then turns off. I opened it up, took the hard drive out, put it into an external USB case and hooked it up to my Windows PC and loaded MacDrive 8 software. Got the drive to be recognized on the PC and backed up all her photos.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI did some reading online, and know that the flashing question mark basically means that there's either a problem with the OS installation or the hard drive itself. I borrowed a friend's Snow Leopard installation CD (mine didn't come with the CD) to try to boot from it, but it refuses to boot from the CD.
The only keyboard bootup control that does anything so far as I can tell is the alt key (using a windows keyboard), which results a long delay while booting, followed by a blank screen with a mouse cursor. Everything else just ends up with the flashing question mark. If I try to hold C to boot from the CD, it sits there for 3-4 minutes with the occassional CD whirring sound, then ejects the CD and goes to the flashing question mark.
I've a DVD from a Mac mini Late 2009 box, named as: Mac mini Mac OS X Install DVD. Mac OS version 10.6. Disc version 1.0 2Z691-6561-A. I think it's a build 10A432 of Snow Leopard.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 13" MacBook (White 2.0GHz/1 GB/80 GB) that will not boot. I've tried the troubleshooting tips on the Apple website to no avail. When I turn it on, the light on the front stays light, I can hear the HD spin up, etc. The screen flickers as if it is getting power, but no chimes or sounds whatsoever. I've also tried to reseat RAM, used different RAM, but no dice. I'm hoping that there are a few other things I can try before I'm left with getting a new logic board.

I upgraded the RAM in my Macbook (late 2007) and the computer won't boot. I have power but no video display. I put the old RAM back in and it worked fine. I was careful to order the correct RAM: DDR2 PC2-5300 667 MHz. Is it possible the memory is bad?

I am using an Apogee Duet with a late 09 Mac Mini, and have suffered through crappy graphics/general performance for some time. I really kinda shrugged this off until getting quite tired of it and did some searching around. After looking around I have discovered that I am not the only one who experiences this problem, and it has been pegged to core audio drivers. Which is odd.Disabling core audio through plists does indeed alleviate the issue it seems. Unplugging the Duet also alleviates this issue. When it is plugged in I see higher temperatures, slower overall performance and very choppy graphics performance, especially in expose and spaces. However this also affects the standard graphics in OSX.

View 14 Replies View Relatedbefore I went to bed, I was playing the Sims 2, when my iBook G4 crashed. Our power cord can be a bit dodgy, so sometimes that happens. I didn't really think about it much, just closed the laptop and went to sleep.Last Monday morning, I opened it and pressed the power button. It began turning on, and got as far as the grey screen with the apple and the spinning circle. And then it just froze. The circle stopped turning.
I freaked out a bit, and restarted it a bunch of times, each time with the same result. (One time it stopped spinning, and then told me a restart was required. Huh. The rest of the times the exact same thing happened though.) I even tried unplugging and removing the battery, but it made no difference. So eventually I just shut it and decided to try again later.Last Tuesday I opened it and pressed the power button without much hope, and again the apple and circle came up just fine, then stopped, but then a bunch of words and numbers popped up.I'm a complete computer noob, but they don't look good to me... or are they good?

My powerbook G4 keeps freezing whenever I try to start it - as limited as my Mac vocabulary is, the "spinny thing" that goes by during the "gray boot screen" with that there "Apple logo" stops and the entire process is frozen. Paper season is started here at school - and I hate click-clacking on the cheapo Dells in the computer lab.

I can not figure out how to connect the power on the cinema display. It looks like it would plug into the back of the mini where the macmini would normally plug the power in. Not sure if I am missing something. I also do not know if I need to plug all 4 connections the video, usb, hdmi, and iguess what is the power plug in or just certain plugs.

I'm on OSX 10.9.2 and there is an update to 10.9.3 to be done.

Ever since, when I try to reboot independently of the update, or even shut down, it does the same, and I can only force shut down holding the power button.
I tried the shift+ctrl+opt+p+r command, but I guess it didn't worked.Â

My MBP late 2013 version takes longer to boot Yosemite and safari keeps crashing frequently. The system also takes longer time to switch applications. Ive never had this problem with my system while running on Mavericks.

My early-2010 i7 MBP keeps freezing within minutes of boot. I just tried booting in safe mode, and it just froze for the 6th time in 24hrs (like the 4th in a row). I've never performed a time machine backup with this computer (I got it about a month ago), so a full restore would be an absolute last ditch option. Like I said, this keeps happening within a minute of boot. The screen is on, but everything completely locks up. The cursor can't be moved, keyboard doesn't do anything, etc. I have to keep forcing it to shut off w/ the power button.

The system never freezes and I can move the cursor but it will not boot past and eventually goes to sleep. It is the 17" iMac G5 PPC.

I wish to restore my computer to factory settings but when I put in my Snow Leopard disc I continue to get an error message that reads "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X. You have Install Mac OS X 23.1.1."Â I wish to restore my Mac to Snow Leopard and then redownload Lion from the App Store and start fresh with 10.7.4 on my restored Mac but I am finding it incredibly difficult.

After dropping my macbook I had a black screen with just a cursor that would move though could not perform any actions. After reseting pram and smc, i now get to the screen with the stars and what looks like the aurora borealis or whatever. The cursor is there though nothing is happening when trying to click and when i press any keys, i gent that *dunt* noise indicating i have tried an invalid action. What is the best use/purpose for the Mac Mini?  My wife's G4 (Granite) Tower is ancient and slow and freezes up frequently so it's time to get another computer.  I have a 5 year old MacBook Pro sitting unused after I bought a 2.13GHz MacBook Air . I am contemplating buying a Mac Mini or an 11 inch AirBook. The Macbook Air would give some flexibility to the household by being portable. She does only basic stuff, nothing fancy, so anything will be better than what she's using now. (At some point in the future, I may give my son the Airbook for college and get a new one for me, but that's not what I want to do now.)So my question to the community would be what do you recommend?
1) Reformat and use the 5 year old MacBook Pro (free)
2) Mac Mini? ($599) (I have an external monitor, keyboard and an external Mac Disk Drive so no need to buy them.)
3) MacBookAir 11 inch ($1100)
4) iMac ($1200) (I think this is overkill for her.)
