Mac Pro :: Install Areca Card (1680x) Onto 10.6.1

Jan 8, 2010

Does anyone have any experience of intsalling an areca 1680x (or similar) PCI raid card onto 10.6.1? I've had a right afternoon of it!After making a clean install of 10.6 i first tried to install as per the instructions on the CD and then their ftp site, but they both threw up errors ("getFileAttributes requires native support" and then "check log"). There was a thread here that mirrored my experience, and with a link that would solve it in 10.5, though the links are broken. Does anyone know the way to install (and do i really have to use terminal)

I have just installed an ARECA 1210ML external RAID controller in an early 2008 octocore Mac Pro. Everything seems to be working fine. However, when I press the power button to switch on the Mac, there is a immediate loud single beep. I am using refit & the beep happens before the list of OS's appears. There is a system setting in the ARECA config web interface that allows me to
disable the system beeper but it doesn't seem to stop the beep.

Mac Pro :: Install Wireless Airport Card

Feb 4, 2008

I would like to install an internal airport card in my Mac pro (2008) as I didn't order the wireless BTO option and the USB adapter I tried instead didn't satisfy me. When I asked for the card at an apple reseller they said to me that this upgrade would cost a lot of money because they haven't only to order the card but they have to install the antennas as well. I went home and checked the interiors of my machine and saw three antenna cables (labeled with 1,2,3) which seem ready to be connected to an airport card. So I don't know if I have to believe this antenna thing. Are the antennas already preinstalled in every Mac Pro or do I really have to bring the whole computer to the store?

Mac Pro :: Caldigit Raid Card Install Running

Feb 19, 2010

I'm trying to install a Caldigit Raid card. My Current setup pre Raid is:

1st Drive -150GB 10k rpm - OS X
2nd Drive - 150 GB 10k rpm - WINDOWS OS
3rd Drive - 1T - Library - About 800GB used
4th Drive - 1T - Backup - using Super Duper to back the library up every night.

The way I want to have it setup is 4 x 1.5T in RAID 5. Get rid of Windows and only have OS X running in there.Caldigit raid card won't let you do a fresh install in a new drive. You must have a a drive with OS in the first bay with Caldigit drivers installed in order to run successfully. That means that I have to install drive 1 and 3, install the drivers on there, clones drive 1 and 3 (which my understanding is not possible), boot from external build the raid, and clone it back to internal drives. Drive 1 hold OS, but since 3 has all the files, my credentials are all in there. The computer won't let me just boot with only drive 1 in there, thus the reason why I need to clone both drives.

So I tried, doing a fresh install on a new hard drive w/o the caldigit card in the computer I'm getting the multi langague screen before the cd fully loads. I am 99% sure that I have the 10.5.2 cd trying to do the fresh install. Doing a fresh install is now out of the question.I've tried the CMM+OPT+P+R and CMM + OPT + O + F as well, but nothing happens. Meaning that I think those commands are not working at all in my PC. This is with fresh drive and os 10.5.2 in the cd tray. What are my choices here? Can I make a new credential in my OS drive and point it to the OS HD, clone that, and build my RAID?

PowerPC :: Won't Upgrade Tiger / Can't Install Airport Card

Apr 17, 2007

I would like to upgrade to Tiger, the system is 900Mhz,has 256mb of ram, 40gb HDD and is currently running 10.2.8 (jaguar??) I was wondering if I could upgrade to Tiger using the Tiger install disks that I got with the imac c2d or is there an issue with this being a laptop and ppc ? I really dont have much of a clue about this kind of stuff with a mac, when I upgrade to Tiger I would also like a fresh install, there are no files I wish to keep, this presented a problem with my old xp laptop for drivers. Will the same happen when I upgrade the ibook? Should I format the HDD before attempting to upgrade to Tiger? If so how do I do this?
