View 2 RepliesI would like to install an internal airport card in my Mac pro (2008) as I didn't order the wireless BTO option and the USB adapter I tried instead didn't satisfy me. When I asked for the card at an apple reseller they said to me that this upgrade would cost a lot of money because they haven't only to order the card but they have to install the antennas as well. I went home and checked the interiors of my machine and saw three antenna cables (labeled with 1,2,3) which seem ready to be connected to an airport card. So I don't know if I have to believe this antenna thing. Are the antennas already preinstalled in every Mac Pro or do I really have to bring the whole computer to the store?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI would like to upgrade to Tiger, the system is 900Mhz,has 256mb of ram, 40gb HDD and is currently running 10.2.8 (jaguar??) I was wondering if I could upgrade to Tiger using the Tiger install disks that I got with the imac c2d or is there an issue with this being a laptop and ppc ? I really dont have much of a clue about this kind of stuff with a mac, when I upgrade to Tiger I would also like a fresh install, there are no files I wish to keep, this presented a problem with my old xp laptop for drivers. Will the same happen when I upgrade the ibook? Should I format the HDD before attempting to upgrade to Tiger? If so how do I do this?
2/ I would like to install an airport card. Would I be able to install an Airport extreme card so that I can use 802.11g? Is the airport card even user installable?
I bought an airport extreme card in 2006, and haven't tried installing it until this morning (always been hardwired!) Can't seem to figure it out now, as the card seems too small for the slot on my Powerbook G4.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install an airport card into my eMac ATI graphics machine. I bought the airport card (product number 630-2883/C) recommended for my model number. i was able to take apart the machine to find the slot I was supposed to insert the card into, but the width of the empty slot is just a tad to narrow; and I don't know why I can't insert the airport card when I bought the recommended version.

There wasn't one installed when I bought my Macbook Pro so I had to buy one seperately and I'm just wondering how to install it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just experienced the 8600m GT video failure and am bringing the computer to Apple tomorrow. Over a year ago I replaced my stock drive with a WD scorpio black drive 320gb over a year ago. Do I need to swap out my WD for the original HD? I have a recent time machine back up of my data, but I'm more concerned about someone denying warranty service because I swapped out my drive. What have you guys been doing when bringing your machine in for service? Does it matter that my original drive has not been updated for over a year?

I would like to upgrade my 17" Powerbook G4 to wireless n, but I'd like to upgrade the internal airport extreme card instead of using a PC Card adapter.
Are there any options for this? Will this airport extreme card from early model MBPs work?

How certain are we that (physical?) interference between the airport card/wifi and the graphics card can be cured with a download, and not actual hardware fix/repair? I mean, I know technology is advancing rapidly, but I'm not sure I can believe that a download can solve the issue that the 4850s are experiencing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought my Mac Pro as a refurb from Apple, but it didn't come with the wireless card built in. This didn't bother me because at my old apartment my computer was near the router so I just wired it up by ethernet. I just moved into a new place and my computer isn't within router distance and I don't want to run a bunch of cable. My boss gave me a card to plug into Apple wifi card spot and OSX found the card and showed some airport info, but it didn't find any networks and if I run the Airport Utility it says it can't find an airport card. So I assume it's not compatible. What are my options? Oh yeah, I found this on ebay. Sound reliable? [URL:....]

What is the best and cheapest way to get an airport extreme card? I do not want to do it myself. I just want to know the cheapest and fastest way, because I don't want to spend to much time away from my baby.

I have a g4 dual 1.25 ghz with airport extreme card in it. I recently bought a powermac g5 dual 2.3ghz. I tried to swap the airport card into the g5, but when I did that, the computer did not want to scan and pick up any networks. Is this because I need an extra antenna? Moreover, when I put the airport card back into the g4, the computer no longer see's it. I know its firmly plugged in. What I would like to do is have the g5 use the airport card, but help on how to get the g4 to recognize it again would also be helpful.

Have a powermac g5 tower w/o an airport card. It looks like it is a hassle to put in a airport card. I have free wireless in a new apartment and want to access it. Is there a cheaper way than getting a card placed and having the "board replaced" as well. Help line said it would cost several hundred dollars to upgrade this machine!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently got a refurbished Mac Pro from Apple, and once I'd set my system up and tried to connect to the internet, I soon learnt that there was no Airport Card installed, so I'm unable to get a wireless internet connection.
Having looked in the Apple Store online, I can't see any internal cards, just base stations. I looked up the Airport Extreme Card, which I thought would solve my problem, but from what I could see that is only compatible with older Macs.
How do you unplug the wire that goes to the front of the card? The wire is attached to a metal plug that swivels around and plugs into the airport card. I tried tugging on it, but it seems like it is bolted on there.

I'm going to purchase an old iBook 700MHz and I know it's possible to remove it's wireless AirPort card, but it will the iBook run okay without the network card in place?I want to remove it but the Apple support docs have the following disclaimer:Warning: Never turn on your computer unless all of its internal and external parts are in place and it is fully reassembled. Operating the computer when it is missing parts can damage your computer or cause injury.

View 6 Replies View RelatedNew Imac user since November of 2008---2.66 Ghz , 4 GB memory, 20 inch with a 320mb and a 500mb Time Capsule. Currently have a number of portable phones that causes problems (disconnects the Time Capsule) when I have the Airport card set to 2.4ghz---Tried 4 or 5 different addresses but no effect. Changed to 5 ghz seems no interference from the portable phones but I noticed thru Istat that the temperature of the Airport Card goes up over 60c(seen it as high as 64c) from general 55c or 56c. I know that this is normal but I am looking for some kind of general explanation why the temperature difference.
