I calibrated my monitor today and now my menu bar is completely black. If I put the mouse there then I can see the items in white. Also, the titles above the icons in the dock are black. In addition, all the menus from the different programs are black also. How to get the normal menu bar, etc. back.

I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.
I am toying with the idea of moving from Windows PC to iMac, and am starting a bit of research on it.
Question - Can the monitor be successfully and easily calibrated? I currently have a Spyder3 Elite.
Just wondering if it's possible to make the Menu bar completely transparent, on Leopard.

It seems like every developer out there wants to create a menu bar icon for things that are completely unnecessary, and only half of the time do they have an option for turning it off. Does anyone know of a way to just hide the icon completely? Or hack the application's resources to not display it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I press the start button the screen goes on and I hear the chime but after 2 to 3 seconds the screen goes completely black. the fan in working the red light under the mouse is on. led # 1,2,3 are all on. I can't find my original system disk, so I inserted an original system disk from my macbook and tried pressing "C" at start up. But what ever I do the screen goes on for 2 or 3 second and after that goes black and stays black.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've restarted my Powerbook G4, but it's still doing the same thing: it's not displaying part of the top menubar (regardless of whether I'm on Firefox or the Finder or whatever app) so I can't see the time, battery/charge status, wireless, etc. I can see everything on the left half just fine (the part where it's specific for each app: File, Edit, View, History, etc). But the right half is blank, *except* for the blue circle icon with a white magnifier icon inside -- that thing is flashing...
Another thing is that I can't open excel files. Weirdly, I can open MS Word just fine. It tells me "not enough memory", but these excel files are pretty small. The thing is, I had Office 2004, and a couple of months ago I installed Office 2008. Yesterday morning, I got an "Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.5 Update" and I just clicked "Update" like I usually do... but I was running late and had to take my laptop with me so I canceled it when it was like 80% done. Could that be causing problems?
BUT I remember the night before, I had the DVD player on, set a timer to *shut down* in 20 minutes, and I remember the morning after (the morning of this Update), I saw that my laptop was (still) ON, and it had a pop-up window to say that some stuff on my computer may run erraneously because my date on the laptop was set for before 1965 or something. So then I had to go fix the clock on my laptop which was set to like 1960 January or something.
PS - there are additional weirdness going on, like when I change the volume using the keys on the keyboard, the transparent little box that's supposed to show up on the screen with the corresponding number of bars --- that's now showing up as just a big block of white box... And on things like Finder Windows, the top portion of the window where I should be seeing a back-arrow button and stuff, they are not showing up...
I am trying to remove some icons from my desktop which apparently I can do in Finder Preferences.
When I select a finder window the Menu Options are not showing in the top menu bar. I am getting the menu options from the last selected window.
I just created a new battery icon(s) for the menu bar, I think this is the reason for it not showing..
I replaced all the files with the new images, but I'm suspecting it's because they're not PDF files but PNG (the originals were PDF)

I still have the original files, but I really want these to work.

My bluetooth icon has all of a sudden stopped showing up in the menu bar, and it isn't visible in system preferences either. I have tried a restart with no luck.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm struggling with my Safari bookmarks in OS X Lion.Since upgrading to Lion and activating iCloud for bookmark sync, when I add a new bookmark or bookmark folder, it doesn't show in the bookmark menu. if I open show all bookmarks it is there in the 'Bookmarks' part of the tree, but they are not showing through in the Bookmarks menu part. I think that the problem is that iCloud is interfering, because they do show up on my iOS devices. It seems to me that iCloud is putting all new bookmarks in the portion of the database which relates to iOS/iCloud and is not keeping these in sync with the ones on my local mac.At the moment I have to remeber to open two windows, both open at the Show All Bookmarks page and manually copy the new iOS-friendly bookmarks into the local menu so that they appear there in the futiure, which is a pain to put it mildly.

I just noticed today that the left menu column is not showing on iPhoto. You know the one that says Library, devices, last import, things of that sort. I've checked in preferences and all over the internet and I can't find anything on this issue. I even called apple and they didnt have a fix either. I am using iLife 08' as well if that information is important.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro won't turn on. When I turn it on, I can hear the motor whirring, but the screen stays black. I've tried leaving it off for an extended period, I've tried unplugging the charger, leaving it to charge for 24+ hours, taking the battery out, checked that the screen brightness wasn't accidentally turned down, everything!! It started about 2 weeks ago, since then it's turned on a couple of times, but when I stop using it and it goes into sleep mode, or I turn it off, it won't come back on again. Not sure what's wrong with it, but there's some urgent files I need on that computer! I also have an iMac, which I was hoping to transfer the files to, so I can send the laptop to be looked at. So, I have 2 questions...
1. What is most likely wrong with the laptop, and is it something I can fix so it will turn on again?
2. Is there a way to transfer the files from the laptop to an external HDD or my iMac even though the laptop has a black screen.
I was watching movies fine last month, and now when i put a dvd in it shows up black. at first, i thought it was because of the type of dvd, but then i realized something was wrong when i put in the movie that i just watched and it showed up blank. it does not have any scrathes on it and i have iDVD what do i do!!

My Mac Pro crashed yesterday after it was reading an empty DVD, and now if boot the Mac it shows this screen:I have tryed rebooting it in safe mode, does not work, I get the same screen. Tryed to use a other monitor, same problem. Now, If I press the Eject button, the disc tray will eject and if I press the volume button it can be heard.
