MacBook Pro :: Black Dots On 13 Inch MBP?
Jun 11, 2010I bought a Macbook pro 13 inch today. I noticed that there are small black dots (maybe small puncture holes) on the top of the lid - about the size of a dead pixel.

Sep 13, 2009I just bought my macbook pro 13 inch about a 40 days ago and I have just noticed two small black dots on the on the bottom of the screen near the left side of my dock. I have done some research and they seem to be "dead pixels" They're really small but for the price I payed i didnt expect any problems. What are some suggestions to get rid of them or if i should contact tech support? Here are two pictures of the dots: They kinda change colour when i move my head around.. Not sure if theyre dead pixels or not.

Jun 22, 2014I just upgraded my Mac to 10.9.3 and i have these weird tiny little dots appearing in my drop down menus and when I open an image in Previews. Actually, some images just look crazy in Previews with giant squares all over them. I have this same operating system on an older computer at work w/out this problem.

May 17, 2012My MacBook Pro 15 inch mid 2010 model i7 processor is having problems when I close the lid and the computer goes to sleep. Heres how my problem is occouring. I close my macbook pro lid. After waiting about 10 min (my macbook sleep time) I lift the lid. Once I do this i see the screen.... for about 2 seconds and it suddenly goes black. I fix it by turning my brightness down 1 bar then turning it back up 1 bar. I dont remeber this happening on snow leopard it seems to be a lion issue and a lot of other users are having it.

Jun 4, 2012My November 2011 17" MacBook Proi has on several occasions gone to a black screen, which requires hard shutdown and re-boot. It happens in two ways: coming out of sleep, the screen appears for a second and then goes black, and sometimes when jjust using the Mac.
It comes back on after re-boot with no apparent problems but seems to be occuring more frequently, so I need to get this fixed.

IMac :: New 21.5 Inch ... Getting Random Black Screen
Sep 24, 2010The screen randomly turns black without any major reasons. It doesn't seem to be a sleep mode/screen saver thing as the music continues to play on. I can adjust the volume or pause the music with the keyboard but the screen just won't turn back on. I have to shut it down using the power button and it happened several time the last couple days. Anyone else experience the same thing and got a solution?

I had a 11 inch air 1.4GHz/4GB/128GB for two weeks. I usually set the brightness to 75% and for consistent web browsing (no heavy flash) I can get about 5h15min battery life. I noticed someone here claiming 8+ hours battery on 13 inch so I decided to give it a shot.
I got a new 13 air with 1.86GHz/4GB/128GB yesterday and start to run on battery immediately. I was disappointed. The brightness was also set to 75% and I start to count the time from 25% while browsing MacRumors.com. And it only took 1h38m for battery descending from 25% to 0%. Again, pure web browsing and no heavy flash.
So here is my conclusion: On 75% brightness, 11 inch air's battery performs beyond advertised 5 hours and 13 inch's battery performs fair and normally should give you around 6h30m~7h.
Noise
I don't have equipments for measuring the noise, but while copying the same 10GB files from external drive to the machine, the fan noise from 13 inch is much louder than 11 inch.
Now I like my 11 inch more in general, although I really hate the 1366 x 768 screen. I don't know if I should sell the 13 inch or 11inch...

The weird part is that they are not stuck in place but seem to be shadows that are not coming through the right color.

MacBook Pro :: Why Does Display Keep Flickering With Dots
Jun 4, 2014It used to stay like that until either I'd move my mouse over the area, scroll the page up or down, or refresh. It only seemed to happen in browsers, not in Finder or anything. It's the worst when watching videos on YouTube or any kind of flash video. But works fine on Netflix. I say "used to" because the above screenshots are from July 2013. I sent my laptop away to Apple but they were "unable to reproduce the problem." I figure they just left the laptop open and waited. You have to use it like it's YOUR laptop and then it will happen. Anyways, now it's happening more often. Except it's just a flicker. Over and over again. I could record video of it, if necessary.
So, I'm running 10.9.3. I'm not sure what other information is needed. But my computer is up to date. I don't have warranty. I just want to know what is causing my computer to do this.

Oct 21, 2010To those contemplating on picking up the 11-inch MacBook Air or the 13-inch MacBook Air, I thought it would be helpful to list the differences between the two.
Below is what I've compiled so far (in no particular order):
1) SD Card Slot is on the 13" MacBook Air, not present on the 11"
2) Higher clock speed configurations on the 13" (1.4 GHz/1.6 GHz vs. 1.86 GHz/2.13 GHz)
3) 6MB of shared L2 Cache on the 13" vs. the 3MB on the 11"
4) 1066 MHz frontside bus on the 13" vs. the 800 MHz on the 11"
5) Larger capacity battery and an extra 2 hours of battery life on the 13" (7 hour 50-watt-hour battery on the 13" vs. 5 hour 35-watt-hour battery on the 11")
6) Slightly larger trackpad and more room for your palms while typing (hey, it's true!)
7) 16:10 1440 x 900 13.3" Display vs. 16:9 1366 x 768 11.6" Display
8) The 13" model weighs in at 2.9 pounds while the 11" weighs in at 2.3 pounds. .5 pound weight difference

OS X :: 32 Inch LCD TV HDMI Setup With 13 Inch Macbook
Oct 7, 2009I am trying to use my HD Sansui 32 inch LCD TV as a monitor for my Macbook. I can't work out how to set it up properly. My macbook is running OS X 10.5.8. My TV supports 1920 * 1080 HDMI 60Htz NTSC and various other resolutions. I am using a mini DVI to DVI adapter and then a HDMI lead to the tv. Problem one is that when I switch the Macbook on and close the lid nothing comes up on the TV screen (meaning it is supposed to only driving one screen, the TV). If I do this with the VGA connection it will. Momentarily the apple symbol will come up and the little circle below it but then my TV says signal not supported.
If I have the Macbook lid open when I switch the computer on both screens will work and I can select 1080P, however it is very grainy and not pleasant to read text. I think it looks better using the VGA. I have heard of people getting nice crisp display with HDMI so I am wondering if I am missing something? Is there any other software that can be used to get better results? Which text smoothing settings should I use? Are there other settings? I am using it on my desk so I guess it is about 2 foot from me. I will post my display details in a minute but my computer details are the following:

Sep 3, 2010I have this issue since a year and never had seen it around on mac forums. So when I play a movie or even grabbing a window around the screen these tiny green-blue dots appear and disappear randomly, sometimes they line up vertically.
The smaller is the movie size playing in quicktime (even in youtube) the bigger are the dots. The good thing is I see them while working with pictures in photoshop, but they don't affect the picture quality when I save them in jpg or other formats.

Jun 8, 2012Before yesterday, when I opened a program, such as Safari on my mac the white dot would appear below it. When I turned on my computer this morning the white dot did not appear under any program i opened. I have safari and itunes open now and neither have the white dot below them. Finder does have the white dot below it, but none of the others do. Its not like it needs to be fixed, but I just find it anoying because im used to the dot being there

Dec 2, 2009I have a Macbook Pro 2.2 Santa Rosa Rev. D model. Recently I have discovered gray dots appearing along the top of my screen.
A few at first, but masses growing are growing rapidly. In the past 3 weeks the problem has started to spread to both my right and left edges as well. Under different viewing angles the dots sort of dissapear. The dots are not uniform in size or pattern.
I have a slight feeling that this has to do with my NVIDIA 8600GT graphic card.
I read tonight that that specific card was reported faulty and thousands have had problems and have had to get their logic boards replaced.
I also read that Apple extended their warranty for this specific reason.
Anyways, the dots are increasing and it's worrying me as I am not sure if this will be covered or not.

Sep 5, 2010I have a 2009 2.53ghz 8gb 500gb 7200 macbook pro, running latest version of snow lep 10.6.4. It's been running fine since I got it last august, now today I started it and I get the blue screen that seems to refresh itself with a slight flicker every 10 seconds with a new blue screen with the spiraling activity dots. I tried booting from a disc, and it nothing changed. I tried booting in safe mode and it the bar would fill up, then it goes right back to bluescreen. I don't have a screwdriver on me, so I can't take the battery out.

May 9, 2012I'm getting one for school and i'm going to have to carrying it aroound quite a bit, so the 11-inch seemed appeling at first, but then i noticed that there is a few pros to the 13-inch than the 11 inch: There's an SD card slot on the 13 inch, which i could care less about, the screen has higher resoulotion, which i don't really care about eiether, but the one difference was that the 13 inch has two hours more battery life, which kinda got me thinking towards the 13-inch. So what do you guys think, is it impossible to work on the 11.6 inch and should i go for the 13 inch, or should i go with the ultra-portability of the 11-inch?

Mar 30, 2012We cannot log into our 2010 iMac OS X. The wireless keyboard is registering each key stroke as 1-5 dots (cannot see letters as it is the password login section to access the desktop). The delete key does nothing. The left / back arrow key addes more dots as does the front arrow key. The only way to get out is to cancel out so we are stuck.

Mar 19, 2009I'm looking for a few good ways to transport and use my UMB. I figure buying a hardshell case & a timbuk2 bag seem like a good combo. Question is - which do you guys think is better, the Speck or Incase cases? Anyone have any experiences? I had the Incase hardshell for my old whitebook.
Seemed to work out alright. The other option I thought of was getting the invisible shield. Anyone have any thoughts?
