I want to know if there is a way to connect sata 2.5 hd's to the sata connections in the mac pro. I cannot seem to find the cables to be able to do this. Can someone help with a link? I have several 250gb sata drives that have been taken out of mbp's and would like to put them to work.
I have looked and found several ways to access the ports, but have been stuck at finding the cable.
I seem to be having an issue figuring out what kind of connection this is on my Mac, it has a video symbol on it but I bought what I thought was the right cable which was the mini DP to HDMI but its not the right connector.

I already am aware of ICY Dock and I do not want to use ICY Dock. I also have to DVD drive so that is out of the question.
OWC Mercury Extreme SSD and a Mac Pro
I've tried numerous mounting brackets, and although they will hold the drive firmly in place, none of them can get the connectors lined up.
For the time being I've taken the precarious method of taping my SSD in place while it's connected to the motherboard. Of course, I don't want this to be a permanent solution.
Would this cable enable me to mount the drive in place and connect it to the motherboard?

I see Seagate & WD have announced these but I'm struggling to find many available to order. Only the WD Green one appears to be even offered as an internal option. What is more it is more expensive buying the internal drive than buying the external USB one.
Has anyone bought one of these externals and stripped out the drive to put in their Mac Pro? I'm running out of space on my 1.5TB and swopping to 2TB hardly seems enough.

I have a G4 in my living room and my old PowerMac 7300 in my bedroom. If I want of use either one to go online I have to disconnect one to connect the other. I cannot connect both at he same time. I use broadband cable from Cable Vision in New York. I was told about a router. Can anyone give me advice on the name of good router and whether on not it will slow down the access speed on the internet?

Which RAID cards are bootable?
Do any work like the Apple card and interface with the drives through the logic board?
If not, how do you connect the internal drives to the RAID card in their stock bay locations?
So I was swapping some hard drives around in my 12-hour old 15" June Unibody MBP and apparently I broke the hard drive cable. More like I tore 3/4s than broke it. Thankfully I was installing a SSD into the optical drive so I'm still up and running, I just don't have the stock HDD in there as a data drive.
I saw something on eBay for around $50 - I'll have to open the MBP back up and see precisely what the cable looks like - I'm wondering if there's a store that'll have the piece I require? I'd prefer to not take it to an Apple store and have them void my warranty because the HDD isn't user-serviceable part.
I know some SATA II drives can be jumpered to be SATA I compatible. Would they be reliable in this application? I have an iMac G5 and I'd like to upgrade the internal HD.

1. Is there anything special I need to do installing the second SATA drive? Does the drive need to be set to Slave or Cable Select?
2. Because the 160GB (going to use for storing musc) drive has OS X Tger installed, will it be a problem when booting once I install both drives? The 320GB drive has Leopard (This will be my primary drive). Will it boot to Leopard and let me use disk utility for format the 160GB drive?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have two drives in my Quicksilver 2002 G4, one is a 250GB which can be fully used, the other an 80GB. Can U rid both of these drives and install two SATA 1.5TB drives? I do not want to use the PCI slots for a SCSI card and wire additional drives that way, because the transfer speed will be limited to 40mbps I believe. I have a Sonnet card a dual PPC 1,8Ghz card, a PCI USB 2.0 card and have other open PCI slots, but finally ran out of storage, and have a use for this machine to hold a LOT more. Other than the transfer speeds possible on SATA, are there any other differences between the original IDE (ATA) drives? Do they connect the same way?

1) Can I use a Sata port doubler (Do they exist?) to run 2 hard drives through one sata port. (The bandwidth is there)
2) Failing the above can I use a cable linking a sata drive to the airport express slot? (is it PCI express?)

I was looking at getting the 24" Imac, however when I was at best buy this morning, I noticed there were no monitor connections to the iMac. I currently have a pc with 2 monitors. Is there any way I could connect the 2 monitors through USB connections to the imac? Does iMac even support extra monitors?

View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently I tried installing a 2.5" SSD in a 3.5" enclosure (Icy Dock) in one of the internal drive bays in my Mac Pro. The enclosure was defective, apparently, because the SATA ports on the enclosure didn't quite line up with the internal SATA ports in the MP drive bay. Unfortunately, I pushed a little too hard to get it in and I ended up bending the metal brackets that the black plastic SATA port is screwed on to in the Mac Pro.
The result is that the SATA port is now bend down at about a 10% angle, which is enough to prevent me from sliding a hard drive in and connecting it. I've tried to bend it back to the normal angle, but I wasn't successful.
I have a IBM Deskstar ATA/IDE hard drive, model DTLA-305040 that came out of a Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver) whose power supply died. I'm trying to install the hard drive in the open bay of a Power Mac G5 9,1 - A1093 with a 1.8 GHz processor, which (I think/guess) takes a SATA hard drive. Is there a cable I can use to make the hard drive "compatible" inside the G5? Or would it be better to just get a cable to access the hard drive externally, copy the data off it and then be done with the old hard drive? It's pretty old and apparently these IBM Deskstar drives had a lot of issues.

Has anyone used one of the internal sata connectors to connect an optical drive? Part of me thinks that's what they were put there for, under the optical bay. I'm after a Blue Ray Drive and loads of them are SATA.
I have a 13" MacBook Pro 2011, 2.3gHz, 320GB. What connector does it have? And would SATA still work with my laptop? One more question, what are the exact dimensions of the hard disk drive bay in my laptop, the manual only says 2.5".
