PowerPC :: Sata Hard Drive - Set Slave Or Cable Select?

I am buying a used Powermac, G5 Dual 2GHz. It already has a SATA 320GB HD in it but I want to use my SATA 160GB from my dead iMac. The only questions I have are:
1. Is there anything special I need to do installing the second SATA drive? Does the drive need to be set to Slave or Cable Select?
2. Because the 160GB (going to use for storing musc) drive has OS X Tger installed, will it be a problem when booting once I install both drives? The 320GB drive has Leopard (This will be my primary drive). Will it boot to Leopard and let me use disk utility for format the 160GB drive?

I updated my G3 today to 10.3 finally and everything was working great until I updated software to 10.3.9 now my wireless isn't detecting any signals while it was working before the update. I'm thinking a driver was broken any ideas. It's a linksys wireless adapter I do believe.

I bought a brand new Seagate 400Gb hard drive for my PowerMac G4 MDD FW800. I installed it in the back bay, as a slave drive. When I power on the Mac, I get a blank grey screen. The original hard drive with OS 10.4.11 is set as the master, so I don't know why it won't boot properly. I've checked for bent pins, and I don't see any obvious ones, so I'm completely confuzzled.

I just bought a 500gig WD Caviar SATA hard drive for my Mac Pro. When it is being written to it creates noise in my speakers. I've had this problem with external hard drives before (Seagate) and thought I'd be avoiding this by going with an internal drive.
Could I have installed it incorrectly? Is there anything I can do, or should return it and see if I have better luck with a new one?

When I sold my old desktop PC i took out the SATA hard drive (WD1600JS). My question is how can I access that drive without buying a external drive enclosure? What cables will I need? I just want to hook it up and see what's on it and completely erase the drive so I can give it away. I don't even have to see what's on it, i'm more concerned with erase the info. I have access to a PC at work if this has to be done with a PC and not my MBP

I have a G4 Mac I wanted to buy a much larger drive. I bought a 1TB SATA internal drive, but when I tried to install it I found out it could not be installed on my G4. The motherboard does not have slots for the cable that came with the SATA drive. The hard drive that came with the computer is Ultra ATA from Seagate 180 GB. I found out that ATA and SATA have completely different configurations. I am planning to return it to the store. Is there anyway I can use the SATA on my G4, or should I just buy a larger Ultra ATA?

I recently bought an SSD vertex 64gb for only 200$ cad. Unfortunately, I do not have enough space to install the Soundtrack Pro components on this drive. I recently bought too an eSata powered cable and a express card esata who came with it. The hard drive can't be detect on my macbook pro unibody late 2008 2,4" but runs. I install the silicon image drivers non-SL and adding over that the SL drivers.
[URL] In that case, I want to know how to uninstall those drivers from silicon image 3132? I thought about another thing if it really not work eventually. The dvd-drive bay could be remplaced by an enclosure 2.5" for my factory 250gb 5400rpm.

I have 1st generation MBA 1.6 with 80 gig HD. (Which now I have to sell) I bought the new MB when it was released earlier this month. I found it to be a very responsive machine but took it back for either a pro with a great resolution or wait for the new MBA. I decided to get another air. I really love the weight of the machine.
Now the help I need is to (1) get the 1.6 which speed right now I find good or get the 1.8 Ghz. then the big question . . .
(2) get the SATA hard drive or spend the bucks and get the Solid State. I hear the start up time is very quick on the Solid State, but it's slower on writing to disk. I use this machine on the road when working with customers and use File Maker Pro mostly when in that situation. I am a novice compared to what I see on here so I'm asking all y'all mac experts....what would you do?

I have a 2005 G5 and my Bottom bay HD wires are busted. I need to obviously buy new ones but the problem is I can't figure out where the wires go, I can find the smaller wire, but not the bigger power wire (i think its the power). When I open up the G5 it looks like the big wire goes behind the board (and I really dont want to take the whole thing apart!). Does anyone have a picture explaining where all the wires go in a 2005 G5. I have goggled it, but just internal pics and simple explanations come up, I am looking for something more complicated so I know where the bottom bay wires go to.If anyone has switched out the wires before please let me know, cause this is nuts. They make everything else in the G5 easy to do but this. ( This all happened because I shipped it and the wires snapped on my bottom drive)

I was wondering... I have 3 old G4's, with each 1,25 GHz CPU, and each about 1 GB memory.
I'm working on an iMac 1,87 GHz, 2 GB, and Intel.
I am composing music on the iMac, wich goes without problems. But I'm also writing music for video, and sometimes I have to render some material, and adapt some things, render it again, and so on, which takes a very long time. As far as I know, the workflow can be shortened by more CPU.
So I wondered if there's anyone who knows if I can connect the iMac to the G4's, or just one of them, to have one core extra?
Or maybe just do the rendering seperately on 2 or 3 G4's, as intel en G4 may clash on the different kind of CPU?

I am adding a SSD to my Mac Pro. However the SSD is 2.5" and does not properly mount to the internal hard drive sleds so that when inserted into the Mac Pro that it will align with the on-board SATA connection. Can I use the following product to make that happen?

OWC Mercury Extreme SSD and a Mac Pro
I've tried numerous mounting brackets, and although they will hold the drive firmly in place, none of them can get the connectors lined up.
For the time being I've taken the precarious method of taping my SSD in place while it's connected to the motherboard. Of course, I don't want this to be a permanent solution.
Would this cable enable me to mount the drive in place and connect it to the motherboard?

So I was swapping some hard drives around in my 12-hour old 15" June Unibody MBP and apparently I broke the hard drive cable. More like I tore 3/4s than broke it. Thankfully I was installing a SSD into the optical drive so I'm still up and running, I just don't have the stock HDD in there as a data drive.
I saw something on eBay for around $50 - I'll have to open the MBP back up and see precisely what the cable looks like - I'm wondering if there's a store that'll have the piece I require? I'd prefer to not take it to an Apple store and have them void my warranty because the HDD isn't user-serviceable part.

I want to know if there is a way to connect sata 2.5 hd's to the sata connections in the mac pro. I cannot seem to find the cables to be able to do this. Can someone help with a link? I have several 250gb sata drives that have been taken out of mbp's and would like to put them to work.
I have looked and found several ways to access the ports, but have been stuck at finding the cable.

I am contemplating buying this drive [URL:...] (at a much lower price from another seller) to use on my Macbook Pro 2.2 SR. I have an Apple 4-pin to 6-pin FW 400 cable and was wondering if this would power the hard drive? The FW400 cable that it comes with has a USB2.0 and FW400 split, which is leaving me to believe that it may need to draw power from the USB bus. Does anyone know if it will draw this solely from one FW 400 cable?

My PowerBook G4 (Alum) died. I've had it for 4 years, taken it with me to Alaska and all over the lower 48, and have had nothing but happy experiences. I knew she was gonna go, but I was hoping she'd hold on until I could afford a MacBook. Alas, no. The problem appears to be the ability of the logic board to communicate with the hard drive. I can hear the HD spin, but even with Disk Warrior, I cannot locate it. The Mac Geniuses at my local Apple store confirmed this and gave me a shoulder to cry on. I've run Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, and tried finding it using the target disk mode - no luck.
The problem is that I've got 4 years of teaching materials, 6000 songs, and irreplaceable pictures on the HD, so I can't bring myself to just trash it. It's true that you only fail to back up you stuff once. This is my once. I've heard that with PC hard drives, you can just drop the old HD into a USB HD box and use it as an external HD. I can't afford professional data retrevial, and I want to give this option a try if it'll work with a Mac HD. Any ideas or suggestions?

I was wondering how I could file share, or make the whole Hard Drive (HDD) accessible to another computer. The two other computers I have are a Toshiba Laptop with Ethernet and USB, and a iMac Intel with Firewire, USB, and Ethernet. Putting these to use along with:Three Ethernet Cables Now how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? Also, I do not want to use CDs and have no CDs that came with the computers. I want to put Xubuntu on the eMac and Debian on the iMacs and erase the rest of the Hard Drives. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4 in my Signature.

I have what may be an odd question. I had a Seagate SATA hard drive inside of a Lacie firewire400/800/eSATA external enclosure that recently got zapped in a power surge and stopped powering up. It has a bunch of film files on it, but no operating system. I put it in one of the extra drive bays inside my Mac Pro, and I could hear the drive spinning when I turned the Mac Pro on (usually it's really quiet, but it now had the unmistakable LOUD spinning of the Seagate), so I can tell that the drive itself is not dead. BUT, the Mac Pro decided to try to boot from this drive instead of its own drive. So it wouldn't start up at all, seeing as there's no OS on the seagate drive. I know there are no master/slave settings in Mac Pros, so I'm not really sure how to go about setting up an internal drive w/o an OS on it, in a Mac. I just want to be able to copy the uncompressed video files from the seagate drive to the Mac Pro's hard drive, then remove the seagate drive
