Mac Pro :: Logic Board - Dual Nehalem Processors

Mar 18, 2009

Does anyone know if the logic board is the same for all current dual nehalem processors offered by Apple? Or does the dual 2.26GHz quad have a different logic board than the dual 2.93GHz quad?

It seems like if they have the same logic board you could buy the dual 2.26GHz now and down the road you could buy the dual 2.93GHz chips (when they aren't $2,600 more) and just replace the dual 2.26GHz chips. Maybe it's not that easy, but if it is it seems like a great alternative to buying the top machine right now. Does anyone know if this is possible??

In addition, under "more info" where it says number of cpu's it only says "1." Is there any way to fix this- is there a way to look in the bios and confirm that both processors are working correctly?

Power Mac G5 :: Additional Gigabit Ethernet Card In Single 1.8 G5 Processor - No PCI-X

Oct 22, 2007

I've been looking around for an additional gigabit ethernet card for my single 1.8 G5 processor. I've read many of the postings but they relate to the 1.8 dual processor with pci-x. I only have pci slots (4 ram slot model - late 2004 revision) and am stumped.

The DGE-528T looked like it may work, then I read it hasnt been confirmed as working for the G5 sinle processor as of yet.

The next card that may work is the Intel PRO/1000MT.

OS X :: Remembering App Positions For Single/dual Monitor Setups?

Feb 27, 2009

I'm running Mac OS 10.5.6. When I plug in the external monitor to my MacBook Pro, I setup Firefox and Entourage on my notebook monitor and Photoshop on the external. I also move the Apple menu bar to the external (since PS is my main app I like having the menu bar close by). Photoshop doesn't present a problem because I'm able to switch the layout for different workspaces (laptop alone or laptop and external), but I find that Firefox and Entourage don't remember their positions.

For example, my current setup is dual monitors as mentioned above. When I get home and power up the notebook, I'll launch all the same apps. Firefox is just barely within view hanging off the left side of the screen so I'll grab the window and drag it over so I can access the green button (not sure what this is called). Entourage displays just fine. When I get back to work the next day and plug in the external, Firefox displays on the external with the window sized to fit the notebook monitor) and I'll just drag it over. Entourage loads into the external as maximized and I'll drag it over and click the green button.

MacBook :: Lack Of RAM - Dual Core Processor - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

Nov 26, 2010

With the Introduction of Civilization V for the Mac and its huge need for power. Now i'm not gonna attempt to try to play this game. But I downloaded Ship Simulator Extreme on my windows partition. Now on Steam it has the system requirements.

OS: Windows XP (Min. service pack 2), Windows Vista or Windows 7. 32 and 64 bits OS supported
Processor: 3 Ghz P4 Intel or AMD equivalent processor
Memory: 2GB (Windows XP) or 3GB (Vista or Windows 7)
Hard Disk Space: 3.5 GB
Video Card: Geforce 8800GT or ATI Radeon 4850 with 256MB ram (At least Shader model 3.0)
Sound: DirectX compatible
DirectX: 9.0c

I have a MacBook Aluminium, Intel Core 2 Due 2.0GHz with 2GB Ram and NVIDIA 9400M. The game plays incredibly slowly and keeps jumping, like the refresh rate is so slow. I have downloaded the latest driver from NVIDIA but still it plays slow. Is my problem here the lack of RAM and I have a dual core processor which is above the requirements? I thought the good video card and processor would be enough? A lot of games seem to have minimum requirements much more than my mac, its not ever that old and seems outdated already.

PowerPC :: Replace Tower G5 Single Core Chip To Dual One?

Jun 23, 2009

Someone I know wants to buy a used Mac pro G5. It has a speed of 1,8 Ghz. I think he's going to use it for music. (logic pro, adium). But he said he was going to use FCS as well. His question was if he could replace the G5 singlecore chip, with a G5 dualcore chip. And if that's possible, could somebody give me extra info about compatibility and such. For example, will it just boot without problems when you replaced it, or do you need to do extra things (drivers, reinstalling the os and such). The G5 will be used in the near future for HD video editing. Also, I know the new intel mac pro have graphic cards from nvidia and ati. But what graphic cards do the G5 towers have? are they good?

Mac Pro :: Mac Pro Processors Be Swapped Out?

Feb 22, 2010

I'm about a year into the Mac platform after switching from pc. My first Mac was a 17" MBP and I'm looking to get a Mac Pro. Like most I'm waiting to see when the new ones will come out. I have always been curious and just wanted to know can the processors be swapped out like on a pc? I realize this involves mother board issues and whatnot but the processors we're waiting for are the same ones that can be purchased by anyone. I always wondered why someone with say a 2008 Mac Pro could not just simply swap out the processors since the tower itself is still the same. Again, I'm fairly new but just was wondering if anyone knew the answer (s). Thanks again for any insight as I'm trying to really learn and understand the Mac system under the hood so to speak.

Mac Pro :: Getting Multiple Processors Or Not?

May 1, 2010

I am looking into getting a new mac. I am a photographer and my major concern/application is Photoshop. At this point in time apple will be releasing (soon I hope) new models. When they come out, I believe I will have the choice of finding the current models somewhere or getting the just released products. Money is a little bit of an issue. I would like to keep as much of mine as possible and give apple as little as I can. That being said I have no problem investing what I need to. I just don't want to waste on something that isn't going to give me any real gain. Like i said I mostly use photoshop. will photoshops usage of multiple processors equal the cost or should I save the money. Purchase the a quad or what ever they release ( 6 core) and put the money saved into memory and ssd drives or drives.

PowerPC :: Use Different Processors On Motherboard?

Jun 24, 2008

I was recently given a non working G5 dual 2.5ghz machine. It is a quad core machine with the Delphi liquid cooling system. After some investigating I found it had a coolant leak. All the fans and lights come on as well as the bootup chime. I think (hoping) that the motherboard and power supply are still good. My question is this:

Can I use different processors on this motherboard? Lets say a dual 2.5ghz non-quad core processor assembly. Am I making sense? I am very new to the Mac world and would appreciate any help on this issue.
