Does anyone know if the program SMC fan control will work when booted into XP via Bootcamp? I am running the game Crysis and I think my Video card may be running hot as after about three hours the game slows to around 15FPS.

I've a Mac Pro 4.1 8core and was using under Mac OS and Bootcamp with Win7 Ult 64bit as mainly doing Photo editing using Aperture and Video Transcoding under Windows environment using Tmpgenc Express 4 and Tmpgenc DVD Author which i found Tmpgenc was the overall the best app for Video Transcoding which most Mac application lacks in.
The issue Im facing is that under Bootcamp Fan control are missing in windows environment and Windows are unable to control the fan's speed even the processor are overheating as what i've experience during Transcoding all my Processor core are 90-100% utilize and the temperature shoot to 100' Celsius Im a matter of minutes.
Some mention to use smcfan and boot into windows without shutting down the machine so that the fan are keep into the speed needed but that's is just not an alternative solution.
Can anyone recommend a good equivalent to smcfanconrol that works well for the new mbp 2.4 under bootcamp? I've searched and tried things, but none work as well or easily as SMC.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro 2xQuad 2.66Ghz and the cores are always really hot even when idle. When I chat and surf the Internet I only use ca. 3% of the cores however the temperatures are at ca. 80 C and higher when I do work.
So I decided to Install SMC Fancontrol, however there is a big problem I can download it fine, I unwrap the zip fine and I can open the application. However as soon as I type in my password nothing happens. Its really frustrating because I cannot do anything I cant even delete it as it apparently is still running.

I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. When I had the old Tiger software installed, I was able to zoom in and out on my screen by holding down the Control key while scrolling with my mouse.
But since I installed Leopard (not Snow Leopard, since I am using a G5 Tower PowerPC), this key combination no longer works.
This former screen zoom feature is important to me because I am a graphic designer with a neurological condition (tremors in my hands) that makes selecting fine points in graphic applications difficult unless I zoom in.
Note: using the normal graphics apps magnifying glass feature does not help me, because the select points still stay small, but using the old screen zoom method made the points larger and easier for me to select.
I always thought it would be cool thing to try to control the computer with iSight.

I've been thinking of using an iMac as a video player in my workout room. I'd like it to be able to grab videos (tv shows) from my main iMac. I'd also use it to play dvd's.
I was thinking of buying a used G4 iMac to do this, but would like to be able to use a remote control to use Front Row.
First, can I use Front Row on iMac #2 to get videos from iMac #1?
Secondly, does the Apple Remote Controller work with a ppc G4 iMac?

I just got a Razer Imperator mouse and downloaded the version 1.0 drivers for it from Razer. The control panel has settings for sensitivity, acceleration, polling rate and the lighting (scroll wheel and logo), but none of them work.
I can change any setting I like, but when I close and reopen the control panel, they are reset to default. The mouse is working but the sensitivity/tracking speed isn't quite right, but nothing I do seems to affect it.
Also when I restart my computer, I'm told I have either no mouse plugged in or have a keyboard plugged in that is not recognised. Unplugging and re-plugged the mouse fixes that.
Is anyone else using this mouse? Does the control panel work for you, or do you use some other control panel/driver/extension?
Control-click has stopped working for me in Safari 5's content area.
It works fine when clicking on Safari's toolbars and it also works fine in every other app including Finder.
A complete reinstall of Safari 5 didn't solve the problem.
I tried deleting every preference file and cache file I could find but that didn't help. And fixing various permissions and other things in Onyx had no effect.
I am going to buy a Mac Pro Server to replace my older Mac Pro. I'm currently running 10.6 and am not ready to go to Lion for this machine - can I simply clone my existing 10.6 system and boot the Mac Pro Server off it?

It seems to me when I restart into XP using bootcamp, my fan in my late 2008 Macbook doesn't seem to be working, or at least not going over 2000 rpm. Is there any way i can fix this?

My server does appear under the "shared" category in finder so once Im booted, I have no problem accessing it but my iPhoto is also stored under there and in order for iTunes to talk with it properly, it needs that server to be connected to when I boot and I dont want to manually connect to the server every time.
Currently, the method that I have and it works is that I just dragged the particular server folder as one of my "log in items" under system preference > Accounts > Login Items.
Only issue with it is that once booted, finder opens the window as well. Its of course really no big deal, but wondering if I can just tell my Mac to connect to it, without that window popping up.
When I first turned on my MacBook, it never booted up and ultimately the screen went blank. The battery is fully charged and now when I depress the start-up button, nothing happens. Its worth noting that when I close the lid, the sleep light turns on.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a old macbook, late 07 white macbook to be exact.What the problem was before OS X wouldnt work was that some certain programs would stop working. First it was Macromedia programs like director, then it was games like Warcraft III. What would happen is i would click on the applications and i would hear a rapid clicking noise then it would stop, like something was loading and then suddenly stopped. It would make this noise 3 times and then the whole laptop would lock up for a minute then it would say the application quit suddenly.
At first i thought it was the application so i deleted it and tried to reinstall it, no luck it wouldnt even re install. Other applications would work so it was rather confusing. Then this error would happen when i tried to install the new patch for WoW. So i went to restart my computer to see if that would fix it.This is where the BIG problem begins.
After i turned off my computer and turned it on again it would only load up to the blue screen, the cursor shows up on the upper left then that loading noise starts, then sometimes the cursor disappears and the screen turns into a different shade of blue then back to the same and the cursor shows up again.This repeats forever, one time i left it like this for an hour and it was still doing the same thing. So now im stuck on my Windows side which is really confusing. If OS X wont work wouldnt Windows not work too?Also, i tried safe mode and it wouldnt work. I have my OS X cds here but im concerned if i use them wouldnt i lose my Windows side?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have first revision iMac G5 with 1.8GHz processor and 17" display, graphics adapter is NVIDIA FX 5200. Problem is that the machine seems to work only if cold booted, if I shut it down after succesful boot (after some use) and wait just little after powering it up again, it will display artifacts and/or lock up. When booted succesfully, I was able to play Halo for 20 minutes (after that I quitted) and run various benchmarks. When the machine is in "artifact mode" Apple Hardware Test says that GPU is the fault, but isn't it strange that I was able to play Halo for such a long time, 3D games are the ones which should tax the GPU and reveal flaws? Also when cold booted to AHT everything passes.
I know that this model suffers from bad caps and I have already replaced some of them, not all, but with no difference. I cannot look inside the power supply properly because there are security screws which require their own type of screwdriver.
I have installed windows 7 on bootcamp, and currently running max os Lion currently i am having issues accessing the mac os itself. When i turned it on and off or restart it, it always gives me a bootup screen that said Mac OS Utilities, just like the picture in this link : [URL]I tried restarting it several times, it does not boot up my Macbook, to my desktop. I trist the windows it works just fine. Then i tried recovering it 3x, which each takes 6-7 hours to do it. and it still always keep booting up the same thing over and over again.
i tried re-installing the OS, but its always giving me message, "this mac os lion is damaged, cannot be installed in this computer" something like that. i've been trying to fix it a day or so, it still wont boot up my Desktop.. I tried restaring it and choosing my disk "Macintosh HD" but it still gives me a recover screen. I also tried pressing the option key then choose my disk, and it still doing the same thing.

I have heard that both Parallels and BootCamp are good programs to run Windows on a Mac. But, I have recently found out that there is also something called Fusion that also works. Which is better? Parallels,BootCamp, or Fusion? My guess is that Parallels works the best. At least that's my opinion just from browsing around and comparing the differences. As I don't even own a Mac (January 2008).
