Windows On Mac :: Partitioning Disk With Disk Utility After Using Bootcamp?

Jun 12, 2009

I have used bootcamp to partition my disk and install windows vista onto my uMB. Now I want to partition the disk again to create a tri boot setup where I can either install ubuntu or the dev preview of snow leopard (I haven't decided yet). Can I just do this with disk utility and shrink my OS X partition in order to create a new partition or will this cause problems with the disk? I would really like to not do a fresh install of OS X because I have had to do this twice to fix disk problems relating to bootcamp.

Mac Pro :: How To Set The Bootcamp Again On Already Installed Disk

Sep 24, 2010

I installed bootcamp and ran Windows 7 on a single hard disk.

After using MP for a while, I decided to use SSD as my main drive and re-installed Mac OSX on that drive. Now I cannot boot onto the hard disk with Windows 7 bootcamp.

Is there anyway to recover the hard disk wholly?

BootCamp Assistant keeps telling me I have to erase the whole partition and create a new one

OS X :: Bootcamp Erases The Mac Start Up Disk?

Oct 23, 2009

Yesterday I erase the windows partition on my macbook pro through bootcamp.

Then I restart my mac and it tell me "no bootable device ...". If I press alt button during the starting, I can see my mac partition, but when I choose it, it's impossible to access.

Unfortunately my Leopard install disk doesn't work anymore (really really strange, it's perfect without any scratch) and I can only use a old tiger disk. So I can see that it's no more present any startup disk!!! Bootcamp deleted my mac startup disck.

Through the terminal I can see that alls my data are presents!

Suggestions? I guess the only way to restore my mac it's to buy snow leopard and re-install the system saving the data.

OS X :: Wont Work, But Bootcamp Does?

Apr 17, 2009

I have a old macbook, late 07 white macbook to be exact. What the problem was before OS X wouldnt work was that some certain programs would stop working. First it was Macromedia programs like director, then it was games like Warcraft III. What would happen is i would click on the applications and i would hear a rapid clicking noise then it would stop, like something was loading and then suddenly stopped. It would make this noise 3 times and then the whole laptop would lock up for a minute then it would say the application quit suddenly.

At first i thought it was the application so i deleted it and tried to reinstall it, no luck it wouldnt even re install. Other applications would work so it was rather confusing. Then this error would happen when i tried to install the new patch for WoW. So i went to restart my computer to see if that would fix it.This is where the BIG problem begins.

After i turned off my computer and turned it on again it would only load up to the blue screen, the cursor shows up on the upper left then that loading noise starts, then sometimes the cursor disappears and the screen turns into a different shade of blue then back to the same and the cursor shows up again. This repeats forever, one time i left it like this for an hour and it was still doing the same thing. So now im stuck on my Windows side which is really confusing. If OS X wont work wouldnt Windows not work too? Also, i tried safe mode and it wouldnt work. I have my OS X cds here but im concerned if i use them wouldnt i lose my Windows side?

Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp Tells Me To Repair Disk?

Sep 2, 2010

I'm trying to run bootcamp to install windows, but it won't partion. It says "Verification failed. This disk could not be partitioned. Use Disk Utility to repair this disk."

I've repaired it, or least what I thought was repairing it.

I went to Disk Utility, highlighted Macintosh HD and under "First Aid" I clicked "Repair Disk Permissions".

It goes through the process and whatnot. Am I not choosing the correct repair? The button that says "Repair Disk" does not let me click on it.

Windows On Mac :: Win 7 Bootcamp Driver Disk Refuses To Run

Apr 19, 2009

I have recently installed Win 7 on my 17" iMac using Bootcamp. The partitioning went fine, so did the Windows install, but the Bootcamp driver disk refuses to run. I have tried 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' using every logical option, but to no avail. This seems kind of wierd to me, as no one else has mentioned a problem like this.

I have:
Retail boxed leopard, with 10.5.1 on the Disc
Mac OS 10.5.6 installed
Bootcamp 2.0
Win 7, Build 7000

17" 2GHz Core 2 Duo iMac 2 GB RAM 160GB HDD, newly formatted, with 10GB for Win 7 (I am storing all of my Data and apps on an exteral drive) As far as I know, Win 7 and Mac OS are fully updated. Win 7 runs fine, but the lack of drivers means very little works. It can just about manage the internet...

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Assistant - Disk Cannot Be Partitioned

May 3, 2009

I ran Bootcamp Assistant and assigned 20 Gb of space to windows - leaving 115 Gb free. I had defragmented my harddrive using iDefrag and then I ran the partition. Afterwards I got the common error "The Disk Cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Backup the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume." Is there a simple way to fix this problem (I have looked on the web) without having to run disk utility and format the harddrive.

Windows On Mac :: OS X Cannot Start After Disk Partition And BootCamp

Jun 22, 2009

I just installed bootcamp and the drivers from the apple cd, it went smoothly. It was installed on a new 20GB partition. I use Windows XP,and OS X 10.5.7. Now,after the windows was installed, I restarted my mac, hold option and chose the OS X partition, there was the apple logo then a blue screen, and it stayed that way. Blue screen was changed by a bluish-gray screen every 25 seconds or so,but that was short and it got back to the normal blue screen. That went on for sometime and I had to hold the off button for 5 seconds to turn it off. I tried starting os x from safe mode, it took longer to start, but it still wouldn't work. I used the "Bootable Utilities" disk, and opened Disk Utility, and Disk Warrior, checked the disk, they didn't find any errors.

OS X :: Startup Disk Not Showing Win7 BootCamp?

Jan 4, 2010

I've finally installed win7 on a secondary internal hd in my mac pro. When starting up and holding down ALT i can indeed select between the two os's. However in mac the "Startup Disks" system pref's doesn't show win7. I would like to be able to restart from the system pref's instead of holding down alt but i can't if it's not viewable in the Startup Disks Pref Pane...

The restartup using bootcamp procedure takes longer then it should on my machine, a mac pro with two ssd's. Sometimes it gets hung up on the grey screen for thirty seconds or so. How can I get Startup Disks to see my Win7 hd? How can I get the grey screen part of the bootcamp startup process not take so long?

OS X :: BootCamp & Disk Utility - Partition Error

Jun 7, 2010

I just restore my Mac OS to a single partition and then I tried re-partitioning but it's giving me an error.
I've tried several times, tried using different sizes every time. My HD's capacity is 250GB, and I've got 108.95GB free. So I am sure that making a new partition of 35 - 40 GB is not a big deal. I also tried using Disk Utility, both from the Mac OS install disc and while using the Mac OS itself, but it keeps giving me this error. I do not want to format my Macintosh HD's partition because I don't have an external HDD on me at the moment so I will not be able to back up. I have a lot of important data that can not be deleted.

OS X :: Won't Work With Re-installation / Bootcamp Drive

Apr 7, 2009

I went to do a system update which froze on "Configuring The Install" (or something similar). So I gave my quad Mac Pro a cold reboo and I get a prohibited sign, or whatever. (You know, the ghostbusters symbol without the ghost.) I know, I deserve that though, shame on me for turning it off during a system update. I waited a LONG time. I don't think that's the root problem though. Anyway, I boot up via the system CD, load up Disk Utility, which (takes forever) and after trying to Verify, I get an "Invalid B-Node Size" error. I try to click "OK" but Disk Utility continues to be unresponsive for a long time. I wait it out, reboot back into Windows and here I am.

The hard drive is super old. Like probably 7 years. It's a Maxtor 6Y120, 114 gig SATA drive. So I think it's probably just failing. Disk Utility couldn't unmount it or verify it. So what I want to do is just reinstall Leopard, but I have a LOT of work stuff on my Windows drive. (A separate physical SATA drive, not a partition.) Obviously I will back it all up, but I would definitely like to avoid reinstalling Windows, all my apps, and restoring my work files.

So I have a couple of questions - 1) Will re-installing Leopard "orphan" my Windows bootcamp drive, so I can no longer boot into it? I would want to erase my Mac HD or possibly buy a new one to replace it. Which brings me to my 2nd question - 2) If I buy a completely new hard drive and install Leopard there, will my bootcamp partition still be bootable/intact? Or will they hate eachother?
