I want to dedicate a drive to XP Pro using Bootcamp. Does OSX need to be on that disk, or can a Bootcamp installtion be initiated from the other drive with OSX on it?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a old macbook, late 07 white macbook to be exact. What the problem was before OS X wouldnt work was that some certain programs would stop working. First it was Macromedia programs like director, then it was games like Warcraft III. What would happen is i would click on the applications and i would hear a rapid clicking noise then it would stop, like something was loading and then suddenly stopped. It would make this noise 3 times and then the whole laptop would lock up for a minute then it would say the application quit suddenly.
At first i thought it was the application so i deleted it and tried to reinstall it, no luck it wouldnt even re install. Other applications would work so it was rather confusing. Then this error would happen when i tried to install the new patch for WoW. So i went to restart my computer to see if that would fix it.This is where the BIG problem begins.
After i turned off my computer and turned it on again it would only load up to the blue screen, the cursor shows up on the upper left then that loading noise starts, then sometimes the cursor disappears and the screen turns into a different shade of blue then back to the same and the cursor shows up again. This repeats forever, one time i left it like this for an hour and it was still doing the same thing. So now im stuck on my Windows side which is really confusing. If OS X wont work wouldnt Windows not work too? Also, i tried safe mode and it wouldnt work. I have my OS X cds here but im concerned if i use them wouldnt i lose my Windows side?

View 17 Replies View RelatedI have heard that both Parallels and BootCamp are good programs to run Windows on a Mac. But, I have recently found out that there is also something called Fusion that also works. Which is better? Parallels,BootCamp, or Fusion? My guess is that Parallels works the best. At least that's my opinion just from browsing around and comparing the differences. As I don't even own a Mac (January 2008).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to install bootcamp with using Win 7 but I have both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Am I able to use 64 bit without problem or do I need to stay with the 32 bit version? I am using a iMac (early 2009 model) with 8 GB ram and ATI 4850 HD video 512 MB ram.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI worried about getting windows 7, I have been reading the forums, and I keep seeing that if I run windows through boot camp to use the full power (for games) I need one licence of windows. But then if I want to run parallels with windows I will need two licences of windows? Is this true.
I'm also confused if I can do that .... Use boot camp for windows games, but then use parallels for documents and low spec items. Please help, I'm getting my new iMac very soon and I'm very worried.
I have a 2010 Mac Pro with two HDs - one which has an OSX installation, and one which has a Windows 7 installation (bootcamp). I need to reinstall OSX due to some system troubles and was wondering if I will need to reinstall Windows/Bootcamp all over again? If not, is there anything special I need to do or it will just work after installing OSX?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI went to do a system update which froze on "Configuring The Install" (or something similar). So I gave my quad Mac Pro a cold reboo and I get a prohibited sign, or whatever. (You know, the ghostbusters symbol without the ghost.) I know, I deserve that though, shame on me for turning it off during a system update. I waited a LONG time. I don't think that's the root problem though. Anyway, I boot up via the system CD, load up Disk Utility, which (takes forever) and after trying to Verify, I get an "Invalid B-Node Size" error. I try to click "OK" but Disk Utility continues to be unresponsive for a long time. I wait it out, reboot back into Windows and here I am.
The hard drive is super old. Like probably 7 years. It's a Maxtor 6Y120, 114 gig SATA drive. So I think it's probably just failing. Disk Utility couldn't unmount it or verify it. So what I want to do is just reinstall Leopard, but I have a LOT of work stuff on my Windows drive. (A separate physical SATA drive, not a partition.) Obviously I will back it all up, but I would definitely like to avoid reinstalling Windows, all my apps, and restoring my work files.
So I have a couple of questions - 1) Will re-installing Leopard "orphan" my Windows bootcamp drive, so I can no longer boot into it? I would want to erase my Mac HD or possibly buy a new one to replace it. Which brings me to my 2nd question - 2) If I buy a completely new hard drive and install Leopard there, will my bootcamp partition still be bootable/intact? Or will they hate eachother?
after some trouble with Windows 7, I decided to reinstall the hole thing.
- I installed Windows 7 RC 64bit on a empty WD harddrive with the selected AHCI drivers.
- After installing, I updated Windows 7. No trouble after restarting.
- After installing the Bootcamp 3.0 (selected Bootcamp64.exe) my system isn't working fine anymore. I got Bluescreen after 1-2 Minutes Windows running on my monitor with the installed 285 GTX, the installed GT120 in slot two seems to run fine and no blue screen on the other screen.
Saw someone else's response on a post which mentioned Bootcamp 3.0 and how they had got them from Mininova. The thing that intrigued me was that they said it had built in HSF+ support (about time, don't know why this wasn't already a feature of Bootcamp).
So did a search on Mininova and found the torrent. problem was the person who had uploaded it said it worked on Win 7 32 bit but it hadn't been tested on 64 bit, I had this and when I tried to run it encountered problems.
Apple recently replaced my macpro with a newer one and they royally messed up my windows partition so I had to start over. I reinstalled WinXPpro and installed the drivers from the Leopard disc. I have about 20 unknown devices in my hardware panel. Most importantly my wireless and two ethernet jacks aren't working in XP. I tried manually installing drivers for my wireless card, but couldn't find the exact driver (I have the Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.38.35)). I also tried running the latest bootcamp 2.1 install as well and that didn't work. If anyone knows where I can get the exact drivers for my wireless card I think I can just connect to windows update and it can handle the rest. I should also mention I've hardwired my computer to the network as well and windows doesn't recognize that either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know a fix to get Stereo BT headsets to work with Windows 7 Bootcamp? I've tried to get two different headsets to work, Motorola S9 and Altec Backbeats - neither are installing correctly. I am getting a driver failed to install issue on Windows 7. The solution offered is to download the latest Broadcam device drivers, but the application is taking forever to detect my headset. I was hoping that Windows 7 would be an upgrade to BT over Windows XP, but I guess not. I guess I'll need to go back to Fry's and get another version of XP.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhich do you prefer and why? I am going to be running one on the imac I am about to buy. I don't wanna fool with heavy burning on my MacBook, but I will get down to it on iMac. I have pretty much given up on finding a good decryption program for mac.. many headaches later I have decided to run something so I can use my windows programs to back up my dvd's.
When I put windows on mac, in theory I open it up to the same crap windows has viruses/spy-adware etc. What do you use to keep your mac safe and sound when running windows?
I know what a horrid thing to do, but since they are offering it for 30 bucks for students I might just pick it up and install it for the rare occasions I need to boot up in windows. Question is will this version work on a Mac with bootcamp? I remember that XP required the professional version to work.

using the bootcamp beta on tiger since the release of 10.5.... I know that people who have already setup a bootcamp partition will continue to work. but rumor is that the bootcamp utility will no longer work (and create new paritions) on tiger.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I had Bootcamp installed. I then installed VMware. During setup it automatically detected the Bootcamp partition and things were great. I then deleted Bootcamp for other reasons and have since reinstalled it. I am not sure how to get VM to point at Bootcamp now? It did it automatically last time. I have deleted the physical disk from settings. I just can't figure out how to get back at Bootcamp.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWith Leopard's new Disk Utility, can a Bootcamp partition be non-destructively resize? Or is it still necessary to clone the Windows install, redo Bootcamp, and restore Windows?
I found my Bootcamp partition is too small and will need to be resized eventually (or, rather, games are much much larger than I realized ). But I really don't want to reinstall Windows to accomplish this.
1. The Bootcamp installation of Windows XP sees my wlan network but fails to connect. Only the guest network works with xp.
2. On the OS X side: connected to the dualband network via N, when I try to play a movie which is stored on my airdisk, every few minutes it skips a few seconds... very annoying.
My AEBS wireless setting is set to automatic
EDIT:
I tried some different settings with really strange results. With the networkutility I checked the connectionspeed:
Restarted the AEBS with the setting "automatic = a/n - b/g/n" -> 300Mbit/s
Disconnected my MBP and reconnected it -> 130Mbit/s
Restarted the AEBS with the setting "N Only 5GHz - b/g " -> 300Mbit/s
Disconnected my MBP and reconnected it -> 54Mbit/s
I used my Wireless Aluminum Keyboard over in Mac OS. I recently installed Vista 32-bit over bootcamp. After I boot Windows, I cannot use my Wireless keyboard. I paired using Windows help assistant or whatever but still cant use it. Do you guys have any same problems? What do you guys do? Is there any Apple Software update for this problem? I checked Apple support page but no luck!

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I've read about how bootcamp isn't working on some SSD manufacturers. People will partition the SSD ok and install Windows but upon boot they get stuck on the gray screen forever. Windows won't boot.
I'm curious if anyone who has a Crucial M225 SSD installed in their 2010 MBP (maybe late 2009) have tried installing Windows via Bootcamp with success.
If you have then instead of going the route of using Apple's SSD I'm going to get a 256GB Crucial M225 as they are cheaper and I know it has garbage collection which is a must for me.
