I was wondering if it is possible to replace the motherboard in the iMac 24" (Bought it Fall 09) with a newer, more expandable board.
I have a couple in mind, but I'm just not sure if they will work. If you know of one that will work, thats expandable than shoot me one.

Does this mean that the GPU is no longer soldered to the motherboard and can be upgraded like any other graphics card? If so, why no options for GPU on the online store?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a G5 Imac and after 3 years, the bluetooth connection to a wireless keyboard and mouse constantly cuts in and out. (works for 3 minutes, then won't, then will, etc.)
I've tried the same mouse and keyboard with my macbook and they both work fine with no dropouts.
I've checked for any updates to airport and there are none.
I've tried searching here and at several other forums...I tried deleting some file people suggested and that didn't work....in short I've tried everything I could and nothing has worked.
The only think I can think of is that the bluetooth "controller" or whatever is the engine for the bluetooth in the Imac is just plain bad. The problem is that I don't know exactly what or where it is, or if it is even replaceable?
My IMac would turn on I would hear the fans spin/whirl but know "ping" noise to tell me it was powering up. Screen was dark.So I replaced the power board. This did not work. So now I've been told that the logic boad needs to be replaced.

i bought the 2009 refurbed 27"er and returned it 3 times due to yellow screen problem. for the 4th replacement they decided to send me the new model.
i have the 3rd and 4th replacements sitting here side by side.the 3rd replacement, which has a yellow corner is light years better than the new one.
the new screen doesn't have yellow corners...it's a perfectly consistent yellowish brown tone.
the older one has a yellow corner, but is much more illuminated and very balanced white. the max brightness of the new one is only 3/4s of the max of the old one.i tried configuring it to no avail.
are all the new models like this?it's quite a bit snappier, but the screen is worse than the last 3 that had yellow patches? it almost seems like it was a return and it shipped from cali rather than asia?
I'm wondering if there is a way (and room) to replace the standard drive with 2 hard drives. I was thinking something like a 128G SSD and then the biggest notebook drive I can get (7200rpm).
The SSD would be the primary drive and should just scream.

View 15 Replies View Relatedthere is a small chip behind the glass of my 27" imac. It's about the size of a small crumb or the eye of a small needle. It's hard to see, but it's definitely there. Today is my last day to get the imac replaced or repaired. I have a feeling if I bring it in that they will see there's no reason to swap out the entire imac, and if there is I would have to wait awhile because it's a custom high end one so they don't have the specsI'm worried if they swap the glass that it's just some 19 year old kid that does it and he won't be careful with the screen and will get dust, finger prints, etc. on the glass making it worse.

After some investigating I found it had a coolant leak. All the fans and lights come on as well as the bootup �chime�. I think (hoping) that the motherboard and power supply are still good. My question is this:
Can I use different processors on this motherboard? Lets say a dual 2.5ghz non-quad core processor assembly. Am I making sense? I am very new to the Mac world and would appreciate any help on this issue.

At first it started with my monitor and I thought it was going out... it was having lines (darker lines, like flickering) all over the screen... but then I realized this happened when I plugged something into my computer... so for example if my external monitor is on, and I plug in my firewire soundcard it starts to flickr...
Then it started to do it when I would plug in my printer... now if I plug in my firewire soundcard my monitor turns on and off... and I'm having sync issues with my soundcard.
I wiped my computer, reset the SMC and the PRAM and NVRAM. How do I test if my mother board is crapping out?
What is the best was to diagnose possible motherboard faults on a Mac? I'm having various problems which appear to be hardware related (i.e. re-formatting, re-loading OSX, etc don't seem to fix them and the problems appear at different times running different processes) so want to check the motherboard out.Typical problems are a USB hard drive suddening going off-line, the DVD burner suddenly resetting itself for no reason, screen not redrawing properly etc. and all these only happen occasionally. The only test I can find is a RAM test (various programs allow this including Tech Tool Pro 6) but is there a way to test other components?

I have Powermac G4 AGP (M7628LL/A) that has the AGP slot without the 'power-supplying' tab at the front of the slot. Therefore my NVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card (ADC/VGA) will only enable me to use the VGA outlet, and not the ADC. I have two Studio Display Monitors (M7649) and cannot use them.
I need to know (1) What other monitors will work with this G4 (in case I cannot fulfill #2), and most importantly (2) Which motherboard can I replace this one with that will enable me to use the video card in it's fullest?
Im fixing up a macbook, and there was problems with the battery connector. So I pulled it out. But on the LB there were only 9 holes (6 on one side, 3 on the other) and no hole where the 7th ones should be. And on the connector in those spots it was the same thing, but what is even weirder, is that it doesnt even look like the pins were broken off, just that there was nothing there, and on the top it doesnt have any solder on those points. Any ideas what to do and how to do it??? And if you want i can post pictures.

Next to the ram slots theres a red light that comes on, is this normal? I've tried to do some research on it and some people say it is, others say it isnt.

I'm wondering if these Ibooks have interchangable motherboards, i.e. 1.0ghz vs 1.2ghz, 12inch screen vs the 14inch screen. I've done much work on IBM compatible laptops and these interchange pretty easily...but these MAC's are all new to me.
