Mac Pro :: Is There A Log That Would Show When Computer Turned On?
Mar 16, 2008
I suspect that someone was messing around with my computer. Is there a log that would show what time was the computer turned on or last on etc.? Anything that would back up my theory that someone was using it when i wasn't here?
II was updating to some 10.5 software, and got to the point where I had to restart my computer, and while the newly downloaded updates were being installed, Of course, I nudge the power cable and it was just loose enough to come out.My computer turned off mid-installation, and now everytime I reboot I get the "Restart your computer" message.or should I be ceaselessly freaking out and throwing things across my room at high velocities?
My wife has an oldish Mac laptop we bought about 7-8 years ago. Everytime we start is up it tries to open MSNMessenger and fails. This hasn't been a problem in the past but today the computer just hangs when trying to open. I get a couple of error messages that disappear almost too quickly to read. One says something about "DevDetectListner" and another something about "Shared library errors.. Carbon". I can't force quit MSNMessenger from the menu strip at the bottom. If I try to use the ctrl open apple esc command it just restarts and the same problem occurs. If I try to open other applications they quit and an error message appears.
My power went out while I was using my iMac today. I was wondering if this could have caused any damage to the computer and if I have to run any utilities etc to investigate?
After several years of working properly, my display suddenly doesn't recognize the mac when starting up. If I turn off the power strip, turn back on and restart, the computer it works fine.
I'm trying to use iCloud and the instructions tell me to go to the Apple icon>system preferences>iCloud. This does not appear in my preferences. MobileMe does but says it's no longer available and to use iCloud. This is one big circle that gets me nowhere.
After the computer has been in sleep mode for a little while, when i try to wake up the computer, it turns to a cray scree, a loading bar appears and then it takes like 5 mins for the icons to appear and for the mouse to work!

A few day ago I startup up my iMac and only a folder with a question mark was shown in the screen.
I boot from the Lion DVD, run disk utility but the only drive I get was the DVD and disk1/Mac OS X Base System.
I turned off the computer and next morning I turned on agian and this time with no problems, I use it for a few days with no problems but yesterday it happens again...
I do run disk utility again onlu turn it off, and this morning I tried to turn it on again, but the same foder appears...I run disk utility (get the DVD and disk1) and turn it off for a few hours.
What I should do ? Is there any 3rd party tools that I can try do use to solve this issue ?
PS: when the iMac started up with no problems I run disk utility and made a repair disk to the mac HD...
Mounted SMB share does not show in sidebar and is unavailable to some apps (itunes, chrome). Shares do show up when browsing computer. Where should I start? This started after upgrade to 10.7.3
My computer is stating up very slow it take over five minutes to get the menu to show and over ten to start safari i have already cleaned out the history, cookies, caches and random files I no longer need what do I do next?
At times my computer runs very slowly. The activity monitor shows a lot of reading and writing, but not what is doing it. Is there any way to tell what is slowing things down?
When I search for a file in my computer (command + f) the results appear in a window. If I click on a FILE among the results, the detailed location of that file is shown at the bottom of the window. If I click on a FOLDER, however, no such location information appears. Before Mavericks, locations of folders was also given. Is this a Mavericks bug? Can it be fixed?
Lately my Mac Pro will sometimes show a message saying "You need to restart your computer buy holding the power button" when I try to shut it down or to restart it. What could that be?
how do i get my aol homepage (or any website for that matter) to show up in the menu of sites that always show up directly under my browser bar where i can click for instant access?
Before when I used to view pictures they show up in (from what I can remember) Picture...im not sure what else is missing but after a while they started showing up in colorsync which i didnt like then i deleted it and the pictures started showing up in quicktime. Can someone please tell me what is the application i can download so my pictures start showing up in an application that starts with "Picture" because it takes up less room
I just downloaded seasons 1-4 of The Office, and they're in .AVI files. How do I import them into my iTunes TV Show Library? MUST I convert them ALL first?
Messages keeps switching the conversation view from "Show Names and Pictures" to just "Show Pictures". This is in the menu under: View > Messages > Show Names and Pictures. I have to change it multiple times a day, including every time I open the app from a closed state.
This is very confusing in group iMessage conversations where all the iMessages are coming from the same grey silhouette icon. The issue is only happening on my Mac mini. It's not happening on my MacBook Air. Both are running Mavericks 10.9.3...So I keep changing the setting here, but it somehow just switches back to Show Pictures only:
I shut down before going to bed - 100% certain, no doubts - and I just woke up a few minutes ago. I was on the other side of the room and the Mac powered up?
My buddy saw an article on the net that I showed him about a guy building a "Hackintosh" with all new parts bought from newegg. The article seemed to say that you really should use the same parts as the author did to ensure Snow Leopard compatibility.
My buddy has built MANY a pc. He seems to think that using the directions and software discussed in the article I showed him, that we could pretty much turn ANY home built PC into a Hackintosh with higher performance and less cost.
I'm not here to discuss the legitimacy of his claim, but I would like to know about the hardware / software part?
Sometimes when I try to turn on my power mac G5 don't work. I have already changed the inside battery and also trying to reset the pmu. The only thing that works always is to disconnect the power cord from the back some minutes.
Information: G5 Mac OS X (10.5.1) PowerPC G5 (2.2)
How can i find out when i first turned my mac on, or bought it? I know i turned it on the day i got it. Like, I want to know when i first used it/turned on, to work out exactly how long i've had it.
