Intel Mac :: Slow Computer - Take Over Five Minutes To Get The Menu To Show And Over Ten To Start Safari?
Feb 5, 2012
My computer is stating up very slow it take over five minutes to get the menu to show and over ten to start safari i have already cleaned out the history, cookies, caches and random files I no longer need what do I do next?
A few day ago I startup up my iMac and only a folder with a question mark was shown in the screen.
I boot from the Lion DVD, run disk utility but the only drive I get was the DVD and disk1/Mac OS X Base System.
I turned off the computer and next morning I turned on agian and this time with no problems, I use it for a few days with no problems but yesterday it happens again...
I do run disk utility again onlu turn it off, and this morning I tried to turn it on again, but the same foder appears...I run disk utility (get the DVD and disk1) and turn it off for a few hours.
What I should do ? Is there any 3rd party tools that I can try do use to solve this issue ?
PS: when the iMac started up with no problems I run disk utility and made a repair disk to the mac HD...
how do i get my aol homepage (or any website for that matter) to show up in the menu of sites that always show up directly under my browser bar where i can click for instant access?
I have a iMac as our main computer which has the main iTunes account. I have a ethernet connection off a Time Capsule/Air Play Wireless to that. I just got a Apple TV 2 and that has been working nearly seamlessly via a wireless connect from the Time Capsule The problem is with the Mac Book Pro (early 2011, 17", 2.2 ghz Intel Core i7, 8GB DDR3, AMD radeon HD 6750 1024 MB Graphics, all updated on all software)What my twist is that when I start to stream a tv show from iTunes via home sharing it will play for 5-20 min and then just stop and return to the main iTunes menu This occurs on TV Shows purchased from Apple, From DVD's I have ripped with HandBrake and Bit Torrents I have also ripped with HandBrake (Into Apple TV 2 format) I've read over and over the Apple suggested trouble shooting. The only non Apple product/software in the mix is Norton for Mac on the Mac Book and the iMac however I have turned off the Firewall on that as well as experimented with turning on and off the Mac Firewall I have a older router from my ISP however the Apple TV is working fine so I *think* that has been elminated

When I start up my computer everything looks normal, all icons are on the desktop and my cursor is able to move. The problem is I can't affect any of the icons on the desktop (folders, files, etc)-every thing is frozen. After about 3 minutes it unfreezes and everything then works. what is the problem?
Our 2011 iMac with SSD takes 2:15 (two minutes and fifteen seconds) to start up. Start up on a SSD should be faster. OS X version 10.7.4 and applications are on the SSD. Any suggestions for correcting this lack of speedy start up?
Info: Mac OS X (10.7.4), 3.4 GHz Intel i7, 16 GB DDR3
Sometimes when I open safari, it stalls my computer for literally 2-4 minutes! It is extremely annoying. During that time, I can't open any apps, can't relaunch finder, can't force quit safari. I am basically stuck waiting for it to get itself out of being stalled.
My Imac is less than a year old and in the past month it has been taking at least twenty minutes on the pale blue screen before you get to log my password and the computer to start.

My IMac (OS X 10.7.3) has gotten incredibly slow. It just stops doing anything for minutes at a time. Then it gets a little better for a little while, but lapses into the slowdown again.
well i bought a refurb macbook with 250 gbs hard drive, it came with 215 cus of the os etc. now i have 208 gbs. my question is when does hd space start to slow u down
I have this MBP 13'' Mac OS X 10.7.5 running a 2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAMs and 500GB storage. The problem started yesterday when I was typing on Word and I copy pasted something from the net (chrome browser) then it froze.I waited for around 5minutes and still frozen with the spinning wheel, then I decided to turn it off by pressing power for 10 seconds restarted my
MBP then now it running so slow on start-up and apps are very slow to open like around 5 minutes. Every action that I try to do like clicking on the apple in the upper left it freezes showing a spinning wheel and it will take time to show the drop down options. I checked disk utility and it said that HD is ok, done verify/permission verify and repair.
I checked the activity monitor noting the ram/CPU usage and its normal it even tells that 2GB of ram is not use.It shows not responding in the activity monitor if you open an app for around 5mins then it opens or it will crash.I already done the 2 kinds of reset and did not work.BUT it opens normally in Safe mode.
I have an iMac intel from 2009.. the computer is used only for simple internet exploring, word documents, emails... etc. The hard drive has 140GB of free space, and I have erased the free disk space with 1 pass. The computer runs SO slow to the point where it's almost unusable. To me, it feels like a memory issue, even though the programs that are used require very minimal memory... I tried ejecting the RAM stick blowing on it and popping it back in, but no luck... It has 1GB of ram total.
I have safari set to open up when I boot up my computer using the login items for my user account.
But when I start up my computer, instead of opening up a window, it starts up safari in the dock, but never actually opens a window. When I click on the icon in the dock the page will open up. Its acting as if I hid(CMD+H) the page. I know safari is open and it loaded the homepage, but the window wont actually open.
I've tried it on two different computers, Macbook pro, mac pro with same issue on both.
At times my computer runs very slowly. The activity monitor shows a lot of reading and writing, but not what is doing it. Is there any way to tell what is slowing things down?
My computer is running very slow. Beach ball all the time. I have about 35mb hard drive free space and 4 MB RAM. I monitor with Activity Monitor. Everytime I open a program, like Safari, Adobe, Activity Monitor shows they use up to 99% CPU. It goes downafter a little while to a small perecntage, until I try to do something with them. Then many times, it will jump back up to high %CPU and give me the beachball and run very slow. This is a new thing. Does anyone know what may be the problem with my computer?
