Mac Pro :: ECC REG Can Work With Mac Pro 2009 Or Not?

Aug 24, 2010

I am building my Mac Pro, I want to have 3 X4GB ddr3 memory on my Mac Pro.

I know this is ECC memory and Registered, and Mac Pro uses unbufferred ECC.

Can some one confirm me if Mac Pro can be put with it (as the below linked ebay item)? From the searched threads, some said yes with speed penalty, but he points to a wikipedia page to explain the speed difference could caused, not confirmed based on experience though. I am not concerned with the speed difference, if there is but minimal. Cost is my concern. I wanted to know if those DRAMs work fine in 2009 Mac Pro. Any body tried before?

I used the xbox live vision cam with my PC laptop, but I got rid of it and only have the macbook now. Ive tried just plugging it in and I dont know how to access it. I occasionally do live mixes on stickam where you dont get to choose which cam to use. So if I can get the xbox cam to work, how can I temporarily disable the integrated cam?

IMac :: Apple MA034Z/A External V.2 USB Modem Work With New 2009 24" Intel?

Apr 30, 2009

I'm new to the forum. I've tried searching out the answer to this question, but couldn't find any recent postings.

I've just received a new 2009 3.06ghz Intel iMac Core Duo 1TB ATI Radeon computer. My internet connection is dial-up (not Ethernet or WiFi). I just discovered there's no phone connection on the new iMac, and that I need a USB modem.

The computer booklet recommends the Apple External USB Modem. I found this one on Amazon:

[URL]

But the customer reviews suggest it may not be truly compatible with Intel machines. It may cause system freezes. I found a thread on this forum that mentioned the problem may have to do with using an unpowered USB hub. I won't be using the keyboard or any hub. The USB modem will be plugged directly into the back of my iMac.

Does anyone know if this will work, or if not, is there another USB modem that will?

Mac Pro :: 2009 Mp Running Hot Or Not

Jun 3, 2009

I have a 3 week old Quad 2.9 Mac Pro with ATI 4870. I have noticed the temp to get around 75C+ while CPU is 99-100% idle. I've noticed mostly when running itunes the temp will just keep climbing...fast! Within 3 min of running itunes my computer is at 65C (attached). When running Photoshop/Dreamweaver/Lightroom, the temp doesn't get as high. I've installed SMC Fan Control, and it helps, but the temp will still climb, just slower. Do the new Mac Pro's run hot?

Mac Pro :: 2 SSD's In 2nd Optical Bay On 2009?

Aug 3, 2009

I haven't really dug around much inside my 2009 Pro. I currently have Hd's in all 4 3.5" drive bays, but I only have the single optical bay filled. I was wondering, since I've seen people talk about a 2 SSD into 1 Optical bay bracket, can you run 2 SSD's off that single bay in the 2009? Where are you getting the 2nd SATA connector into that bay?

Optical
SSD1, SSD2

HD2
HD3
HD4

Do-able? And can the SSD's be bootable in that sort of setup?

Mac Pro :: Trying To Diagnose Bad RAM In 2009?

Mar 26, 2012

I have a 2009 2.26 Mac Pro with 4x4Gb Apple/Hynix RAM and 4x1Gb Apple/Hynix and Samsung RAM. I have been having occasional kernel panics (once/twice a week). I tested the 4x4Gb with memtest in single user mode and got a kernel panic with all 4 sticks in. However, when testing the modules individually or in pairs, they all pass memtest (at least 3x each). But testing all 4 causes a panic every time. Is there something wrong with the motherboard or RAM board, or could it still be the RAM? Should I be trying the RAM in 3s instead of 4s?

Does anyone know of a brand I could purchase maybe elsewhere (8GB kits) and just get 4 of those requesting they be from the same lot.

Just looking for other alternatives then 2 stores.

IMac :: 2009 I7 Vs. 2010 I5

Nov 20, 2010

I have an opportunity to get a Late 2009 27" i7 (2.8 Ghz) for $1699. I've been looking at the $1999 i5 (also 2.8 Ghz). I know it has a 1Gb Video Card, compared to the 512 MB one on the 2009 i7.

My basic question is, is the i7 worth the lesser video card and cheaper price, compared to the i5 with a stronger video card?

I do a lot of work in Photoshop and iMovie, as well as Illustrator and inDesign. I also will be playing TF2 heavily, and heard that the i7 was great for video and gaming. I'm in the market for an iMac since my Late 2006 Macbook Pro is on the verge of death.

MacBook Pro :: Mid-2009 Cannot Find HDD?

Dec 13, 2010

What happened: I was working late one night on a Keynote presentation. My battery ran out, and the computer did that hibernation thing it does when there's no battery power. I got my charger, connected it to my computer, and then pushed the power button. It started up for a second in to the gray screen it usually goes to. Then I turned around, tugging the magsafe charger out of the connector on the computer. This caused my computer to shut down again. Now I can't get it to boot at all.I've tried pretty much everything to deal with this. Multiple forced reboots, resetting PRAM and NVRAM, etc. I booted to original OSX disc and ran disc utility, but I discovered that there is *no disc to boot to*.

Mac Pro :: Apple Pro Speakers And 2009

Mar 19, 2009

Anyone know how if there is any way to connect the Apple Pro Speakers to the 2009 MacPro? I am upgrading from a Dual G4 PowerMac, and while I have the requisite ADC->DVI->MiniDisplay port adaptors for the two Cinema HD displays but I am not quite sure what to do with the speakers. There seems to be a product called iFire that is out of production that converts the Apple Pro Speaker jack to fireWire 400. But it is out of production and there is no firewire 400 anymore either, thus another adapter would be needed. I really don't need speakers for my work, but they just look good with the old plastic Cinema HD displays.

Mac Pro :: 2009 Mac Pro Noise - How To Quiet

Aug 26, 2009

I just got a 2.66 Quad-core Mac Pro. I've read a lot of comments about how quiet they are, things like "silent", "can't tell that it's running", etc. Mine is certainly quieter than my G5, but it is far from silent. I hear the typical high-pitched whine that I expect from computers, not loud, but there. But the sound that's starting to bug me is a low-frequency sound, almost like motor. It oscillates in volume from. It's not loud, but it has an irritating quality. I can't tell where it emanates from almost silent to too loud. It's not the graphics card or the disk drive, and all the fans are running under 1000 rpm. I'm guessing this isn't normal, but does anyone have an idea of where the sound is coming from?

Mac Pro :: 2009 Will Not Boot-up Under Windows

Jun 4, 2012

I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro system (Mac Pro 4,1) and I've had this system for 3 years already and have been working under OS X with this system ever since I purchased it. However, when I tried to boot off my Windows disk, something very interesting happens. The Mac Pro WILL NOT boot up off the Windows disk or a known working Windows partition if two monitors are connected. Upon holding down the option key and selecting the Windows partition, I will get a black screen on one monitor (the one connected via Mini Displayport) and the other screen receives no signal and will enter standby and the system is halted. It does not respond to keystrokes, there is no hard drive activity, no measured power increase on the UPS, no apparent network activity, nothing. The only way to exit this scenario (from what I can tell) is to power off the machine, disconnect the display on DVI, power on the machine again, select the Windows partition wait for the system to reach the login window and reconnect the DVI monitor (at which time Windows recognizes it immediately and the system works fine again).

I have two Samsung P2350 monitors attached to an ATI Radeon HD 4870 (512MB, from Apple). One is monitor is connected via directly DVI and the other is using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter. Both monitors work fine under OS X with no issue. At first, I thought that this may be a driver issue on the Windows side and after installing all the latest updates and drivers the issue is still apparent. From what I can tell, this doesn't seem like a software issue but rather a firmware or EFI issue as this happens before Windows even loads. For the record, I am running all the latest software builds on the OS X side (10.7.4, not that it would really matter at this point). I have also disconnected all unnecessary equipment in a trial and error scenario but the results are still the same. The system passes all ASD testing. The full specification of the computer and all connected equipment are as follows:

2009 Mac Pro (4,1) 8-Core

2x Intel Xeon Nehalem 2.66GHz Quad-Core CPUs

16GB DDR3 ECC 1066MHz RAM (Apple Branded)

Two OWC 120GB SSDs (One for OS X, the other for Windows 7 x64) - These are in place of my optical drives.

4x 2TB WD Black Hard drives for storage.

Two Samsung P2350 Monitors connected via DVI. (One using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter).
