I've reached a point where I cannot fit any more HDDs into my Mac Pro. The computer is packed to the gills.
The issue is the cabling is a mess and I can't even close the cover anymore. That's annoying as my apartment is dusty, so I have to clean it often.
I'm also trying to add one more drive, but I have no space.
With a sharp fingernail I seem to have damages the internal ribbon cable that connects the audio card in my 2009 Mac Mini, and am looking to source a replacement, preferably in the EU. I'm currently in the UK.The part number is 922-8809.
A Google search reveals a few parts suppliers in Europeland, but they are all charging silly prices for the cable, and US suppliers impose ridiculously high postage charges.
I was wondering how I could file share, or make the whole Hard Drive (HDD) accessible to another computer. The two other computers I have are a Toshiba Laptop with Ethernet and USB, and a iMac Intel with Firewire, USB, and Ethernet. Putting these to use along with:Three Ethernet Cables Now how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? Also, I do not want to use CDs and have no CDs that came with the computers. I want to put Xubuntu on the eMac and Debian on the iMacs and erase the rest of the Hard Drives. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4 in my Signature.

I cannot connect both at he same time. I use broadband cable from Cable Vision in New York. I was told about a router. I bought a cable and connected it to the Mac Pro, but the receiver(where I want to plug the line in) is old and only received optical. Is there some sort of adapter that would convert the connect that doesn't cost $200? I was able to connect an analog cable from the front of the mac pro's headphone jack into the back of the receiver, but the sound isn't really the greatest.

My PowerPC G4 crushed. After repairs, I installed 10.4.11. I have 512 MB DDr SDRAM. The problem is the following: I noticed there are two volumes on my desktop. One, with about 7 GB is where the system is. The other contains about 63 GB with a some files in it. I went to update my system but it asks for more memory. I am guessing the 63 GB volume is not recognized.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt seems since I switched to Snow Leopard some applications can't print B/W anymore. These are apps like InDesign. Apps that use Color Management. I have played around with the settings but I haven't yet found a way to just print solid black text on my Brother laser printer. Everything comes out dithered.
Example:
I create a music sheet in Finale. Prints fine. Black Characters. Make eps, pdf or tiff files, import into InDesign for a book and InDesign will print the black fonts dithered. It does that to everything, imported or not.
If I print the PDFs that were created by Finale (which doesn't use color management) they print fine.
This dithering also happens when I turn color management off in InDesign. Consequently, when InDesign makes pdf files the solid black comes out as somewhat off black.
I have an old G4 mirror-door that I use as my PVR. It's stuffed with 4 big drives to record media, but it runs all day and sucks tons of power. Plus, it heats up the cabinet like an oven. Is there a piece of software etc. that can help the mac better manage its power consumption? I don't like using the OS X drive sleep option because the drives always go to sleep just when you need them..

For my movies and pictures i have a mixture of folders and files.

files and folders are mixed together. I usually always right click and select keep arranged by "kind" to get this arranged by kind. But the problem is every time i exit the folder it reverts back to being mixed. Is there ANY way to save these changes to always have my files arranged by kind?
i have an unsual request. a developer mate of mine is forced to work on macs with his new job. he's only used windows before.
one of the windows features he heavily relies on is the "tile" view. this means that all windows are changed in shape (vertically/horizontally) to fill the screen. they can all be used (IT IS NOT EXPOSE).
I bought a relative a kindle and now have the job of loading it up etc, I have 2 questions really as i have not worked with pdf's much.
1) what is a good application or method of changing pdf meta-data etc
2) Is there a good PDF (and maybe other e-book formats) management software or even sync software for mac?
I'm wondering if there is any good apps out there for managing an entire project, across multiple files, sort of a bulletin board, just a single file, that contains a sort of desktop for that entire project, you could drag things into it, files, pictures, notes of somekind, anyone know of anything like this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need a program to manage video files, similar to iTunes. I would love to use iTunes for it, as it's perfect, but unfortunately iTunes doesn't have a "video clip" section. I have tons of movies, tv shows, and music videos, all in iTunes organized perfectly. I also have a bunch of random video clips (commercials, random stuff) that I don't want to put into any of the "placeholders" iTunes has for videos, because none of the placeholders are applicable to them. Is there any program that supports tagging, searching, etc for videos, similar to iTunes? Currently I have them all in folders, and it's getting out of control.

I'm new to this crap and doesn't know if what I am looking for exists. So here we go...
I am looking for a web based Project Management System that is suitable for corporate environment (although I doesn't know what that is but I'm assuming it will be something like social/collaboration tool or like a Wiki or blog even something like Microsoft SharePoint). Basically, it will appear to be a database to process and store document. I need the functionality to content out as PDF and XML. I need functionality to share Microsoft Entourage calender. I also need the functionality to draw Mind Mapping.
I am still quite new to mac, and still haven't got my head around how itunes and my music collection are working. Before, with Windows, I put all of my songs in 'My Music' and 'My Sounds' folders, and setup Windows Media Player to scan those folders and index them in the WPM Library. It worked well; all was fine.
In iTunes, though:
* there seems to be no automatic importing of music folders.
* when i manually import a song (usually by just 'open'ing it in itunes) itunes copies the music somewhere else.
* where does it copy? /user/music/itunes, right?
* why does it copy? does it change format?
* can i delete the old copy of the music files?
* if i do delete them, is the new format DRM'd? why does it change format?
We have about 10 PowerBook G3/400 computers in our school running OS 9.2.2. They haven't been used in a couple of years and now none of them will boot up. No power. I checked Apple's website and found an article called Power Management Unit. It says to hit the reset button, wait 5 seconds and then hit the power button, but it didn't work for any of them. Does anyone have any ideas?
