Mac Pro :: Bootcamp Using A GTX 570 SC - Boot Into OS X Momentarily?
Mar 8, 2012
I have a Mac Pro (early 2009) 4,1. I run Windows Bootcamp using a GTX 570 SC and I can only boot into Windows because of my graphic card. I would like to boot into OS X momentarily and I have an old GPU from Powermac G5. It is the 9600XT. Would it be a problem to plug in the 9600XT as a helper card to get me into OS X briefly?

My iMac has recently begun freezing momentarily. First it will freeze for a few seconds (while still allowing the mouse to move). It will resume, and then a minute or so later it will freeze again for a slightly longer duration. During this time, I can move the mouse, click on things, but nothing responds. Music and videos pause and then resume, websites stop loading, not able to type, etc. In fact, it just happened while typing that last sentence.

I am running a clean install OS X, including my third-party applications, and this five-year-old machine has never run better. However, an anomaly has arisen. Whenever I push play (iTunes) my desktop picture disappears briefly, replaced by a neutral gray screen, before reappearing. As I write this, I quit and re-launched iTunes and the problem still exists. I am loathe to restart my computer as I am in the middle of some pressing business. I will check back if a restart resolves this issue, otherwise, feel free to comment.
With iTunes running, pushing Play starts the song and one-second later my desktop picture disappears briefly. Pushing the button (Pause) again stops the song but nothing else happens. I am currently listening to iTunes DJ and just now the O'Jays started playing and without my doing anything, the desktop picture disappeared and reappeared. I have iShowUHD and will make a recording of it, if it continues.

Ok, I had this problem for quite a while but lived with it, now it's becoming a real issue. Any time I click on a "download" (using Safari) button or the like, nothing happens. The page momentarily loads but that is all. This is on ALL websites that have any download links, except Rapidshare, which still seams to work for me. Any time I had to download something that wasn't on rapidshare I used my download manager (JDownloader) to download it, which doesn't encounter this problem. But a lot of sites aren't supported by JDownloader so I'm bummed
I've tried running hardware and system scans on my comp, with no results. My internet test shows nothing wrong, my internet speed is quite good actually (20 Mbs/sec download, 5 Mbs/sec upload). I've reseted Safari/airport extreme and router numerous times without effect. I would try a different internet browser but I can't download it

I have a PowerMac Dual G4 @ 500mhz that has issue with waking up from sleep. Running Tiger 10.4.11 with a fresh install of it on there. 512mb memory populating all 4 slots. I've verified permission, verified the HDD via disk utility. I've also run MacOSXmemtest that I purchased and that came up clean. I've also reset the PMU. When I wake the computer up from sleep it will usually wake up to a display and then the mouse and keyboard work momentarily (USB MS keyboard and Logitech Mouse) and then I'll get the beachball of death. The mouse and keyboard will then stop responding completely. I have to manually restart the computer but it seems to work great if it doesn't go into sleep.

I recently had my screen replaced because of a crack. Now I find when I open the laptop to use, after being on sleep mode. It momentarily turns blue, sort of flashes/glitches then works normally. Should I be concerned?

I have a Mac Pro with 10.6. At one point last week I used boot camp to create a partition for windows, and after realizing that I dont use it since I have a pc sitting right next to the mac I decided to remove it (again using boot camp).
Now when I restart the mac I get the apple logo with a flashing circle with a cross through it (like no smoking symbol) which means it is having trouble finding something to boot.
If I hold down option key when i turn it on it gives me the single option to click the Macintosh HD to load OSX and it boots fine.
My question is, whatever has gotten screwed up, how can I fix it so that it will just load osx without me having to hold option and click the hD?

My windows 7 partition is totally intact, it's on my desktop and VMWare still boots into it fine. Holding option at startup does nothing and system preferences doesn't recognize it as a startup disk. I haven't touched my partition recently, the only significant thing I've done is install 10.6.5.

I have a fresh install of the Snow Leopard and I was about to install Windows XP on the bootcamp partition but to my surprise I've got this error: Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used. You must update your computer's BOOT ROM. What gives? I was running Boot Camp with no problems with Leopard. My Boot ROM Version: MP41.0081.B03. I've tried the other machine at Apple Store - same result. Store staff, of course clueless.

Here's the problem. I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate through bootcamp and the problem is, that when it restarts to boot and install from DVD, the screen goes black with the tickling white underscore and it won't load.
every time I start OSX, a box appears saying that the latest firmware for the EFI 1.4 or something has been successfully updated. Could it be related or is it something else?

I'm trying to install Windows on my computer, and the install works fine, with no issues. On my very first boot into the desktop, everything looks OK. But when I reboot Windows, it freezes on "Installing device driver..." and then I have to press the power button to turn the computer off. I noticed that the device driver it's trying to install is "IEEE 1394". Then, when I restart my computer it freezes on the "Welcome" screen and I have to restart, only to be met with the same "Welcome" screen freeze every time. I have tried all 3 different "Safe Mode" options, burned several different Windows install discs and tried to repair my Windows install using the Windows DVD, but the repair program says that my Windows version isn't compatible with the disc version, even though it's the one I originally installed it with. I even saw in one thread that a guy fixed this same exact problem on his Mac by pressing the power button in anticipation just before the freeze. I tried that solution many times and it didn't work either. I also saw on another website some console commands I can use to try and resolve my issue, but if I cannot access a console, how am I supposed to use it?! I noticed that "Loading Driver C:System32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS" hangs for quite some time before loading the welcome screen and crashing there. A few times I even notice that it would freeze on that process itself. Either way, I can't get into Windows. I've tried every solution I could find, and none of them worked at all. I'm really mad and sad right now because this is so frustrating. I just want to be able to get Windows on there so I can play my favorite games, use Office and work in Visual C++ Express Edition.

I installed Vista Business, bootcamp drivers, all necessary updates, etc. Since then, every time I reboot from Vista to Leopard, it stalls on the loading menu for 6-8 minutes, and when I finally get to the desktop the clock has been set back 7 hours. This also happens about 30% of the time when restarting from Leopard to Leopard. I spoke with Applecare, and they basically won't help me because they claim the problem is with Windows.

I uninstalled boot camp, by restoring the drive using the BootCamp Assistant. Well... when I turn my computer on, and hold down option, it still gives 2 drives named "Windows" as a choice to boot to, even though they "don't exist." This really scared me when it tried to boot to one of those automatically after a restart, and it said that it could not load the operating system.

I am wondering if there is a way to have my iMac boot up in OS/X by default and if I want to use windows then use the hold down option method. So when I also come out of windows that it will go to OS/X without having to hold down the option key while I boot. Is this possible? If so how do I configure it?

I purchased a new hard drive, my second Samsung 750 GB. My first one is partitioned, half for OSX half for Vista. Ultimately, I want to have a hard drive per operating system.
At first I thought the way to go for this, based on some stuff I read here on Mac Rumors was to use winclone to clone the windows partition, restore it to the new drive, and then I don't know what.I did the restore, there were errors in the log though..something about the wrong kind of partition. Basically it's become a pain in the ass, and I'm thinking there has to be an easier way.
It occurred to me, I might be able to use "Install and Archive" to move the boot volume to the new disk, moving the user files and network settings with it. If I did this would I be able to expand the windows partition using winclone utilizing the full hard drive? Or could moving the boot volume to the new disk mess up my Windows partition?

The real question I have is that I cloned my hard drive but in disk utility I cant just move my hard drive down extend my space to fill in the empty space for my mac partition. Also my hard drive is dual boot via bootcamp with windows 7.

So, I was on windows, using bootcamp, and I was creating partitions on a pen drive with it, and then it asks me that it needs to restart to apply changes.
But then, while restarting, a blue screen occurred (**** windows).... And I forced the shutdown pressing the power key.
Then, I simply turned the MacBook on, trying to boot on my snow leopard and I got a flashing folder with a question mark on it. Now I can't access any partitions on it, if I press option key on startup I get a blank window!
I tried to reset PRAM, repair the MacOs partition using the snow leopard DVD (it shows up fine, along with windows partition and EFI partition), and I still don't get my startup disk showing up...

Naturally I had to restart my mac a few times, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary; everything performed as expected. Even played some counterstrike in windows before I rebooted back into osx.
A few hours later I tried booting back into windows, and it says there was an error and gives me the usual boot options (safe, last known working config etc etc). After I select one it begins to work, but after 5-10 seconds I get a bluescreen that lasts for a split second before rebooting. /repeat.
