I uninstalled boot camp, by restoring the drive using the BootCamp Assistant. Well... when I turn my computer on, and hold down option, it still gives 2 drives named "Windows" as a choice to boot to, even though they "don't exist." This really scared me when it tried to boot to one of those automatically after a restart, and it said that it could not load the operating system.
View 5 RepliesI've done a byte to byte clone of my original 320GB bootcamp drive to a 750GB drive (connected via USB). So I remove the 320GB from bay 4 (MacPro) and slot in the 750GB into bay 4. I fire up my MacPro hit the Option key during power up and all I get is an option to select my Mac drive not my new 750GB Windows drive.
So I boot into OSX (since I have no other option) and I can see my "Untitled" Windows drive on my desktop. I can select it and browse it and I see all my Windows files. Also, under System Preferences - Startup Disk, I can see my "Windows on Untitled" listed.
Every time i unplug a USB external HD wile its copying/moving files or even just reading (This only happens because of a power failiure, by mistake or by a windows crash) Windows stops reconizing that especific HD, and just says "USB device not reconized".
This only happens in Windows, if i reboot in Mac OS it reconizes the drive and acts normally.
I even tryed formating the windows partition and reinstalling windows but that did not solve the problem.
I just upgraded my hdd a couple of mins ago from the 120 gig to a seagate 500gig , but before doing that i used "carbon copy cloner" to clone my old drive, as well as the 8gig partition i had there where i used to keep my copy of snow leopard (easier that carrying the disk around).CCC cloned both partitions perfectly.I named them Mac and Mac-backupthen I created another partition using disk utility and named it Win - this is where i want to install win7 via bootcamp. The "Win" partition is totally empty.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Intel Dual-Core Intel Xeon. I boot from FW drives all the time. A client came in with their OS on a WD My Book Studio LX. I plug in via FW 800, but holding the option key on boot does not display the clients FW/OS drive. I can go into startup disk, select their drive from there, but when the computer restarts I get to the grey Apple screen and it just stays there spinning and then the Mac restarts itself.
One strange addition; when I boot to my good OS, their drive shows up with an internal drive icon as opposed to the regular FW icon. they brought their new 8-core system off their bus and we are able to boot off that computer from the FW drive no problem.
Naturally I had to restart my mac a few times, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary; everything performed as expected. Even played some counterstrike in windows before I rebooted back into osx.
A few hours later I tried booting back into windows, and it says there was an error and gives me the usual boot options (safe, last known working config etc etc). After I select one it begins to work, but after 5-10 seconds I get a bluescreen that lasts for a split second before rebooting. /repeat.
My windows 7 partition is totally intact, it's on my desktop and VMWare still boots into it fine. Holding option at startup does nothing and system preferences doesn't recognize it as a startup disk. I haven't touched my partition recently, the only significant thing I've done is install 10.6.5.

After installing i rebooted the computer but after it rebooted nothing is happening. I cant get back to OSX and windows wont load because i havent installed it yet! When i boot i hear the normal sound, and i have a white screen clean. I have put in the OSX cd to try to reinstall OSX but it wont load, or i dont know how to.Now that the OSX cd is in there it wont eject it anymore.

every time I start OSX, a box appears saying that the latest firmware for the EFI 1.4 or something has been successfully updated. Could it be related or is it something else?

But now i can not boot into windows xp, i try from safe mode boot into.
but still can not.
When booting into windows, xp tell me need check disk and can not cannel check, when checking step1 is can normal finish but step2(indexs) can not go, it stop always at 0%.
The windows xp's filesystem is NTFS, in mac os x I can read all files in windows's disk, but can not delete or edit any file.
Is there some way can fix this problem?

I'm trying to install Windows on my computer, and the install works fine, with no issues. On my very first boot into the desktop, everything looks OK. But when I reboot Windows, it freezes on "Installing device driver..." and then I have to press the power button to turn the computer off. I noticed that the device driver it's trying to install is "IEEE 1394". Then, when I restart my computer it freezes on the "Welcome" screen and I have to restart, only to be met with the same "Welcome" screen freeze every time. I have tried all 3 different "Safe Mode" options, burned several different Windows install discs and tried to repair my Windows install using the Windows DVD, but the repair program says that my Windows version isn't compatible with the disc version, even though it's the one I originally installed it with. I even saw in one thread that a guy fixed this same exact problem on his Mac by pressing the power button in anticipation just before the freeze. I tried that solution many times and it didn't work either. I also saw on another website some console commands I can use to try and resolve my issue, but if I cannot access a console, how am I supposed to use it?! I noticed that "Loading Driver C:System32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS" hangs for quite some time before loading the welcome screen and crashing there. A few times I even notice that it would freeze on that process itself. Either way, I can't get into Windows. I've tried every solution I could find, and none of them worked at all. I'm really mad and sad right now because this is so frustrating. I just want to be able to get Windows on there so I can play my favorite games, use Office and work in Visual C++ Express Edition.
I installed Vista Business, bootcamp drivers, all necessary updates, etc. Since then, every time I reboot from Vista to Leopard, it stalls on the loading menu for 6-8 minutes, and when I finally get to the desktop the clock has been set back 7 hours. This also happens about 30% of the time when restarting from Leopard to Leopard. I spoke with Applecare, and they basically won't help me because they claim the problem is with Windows.

Video says it all...there is a strange "pause" for about 30 sec with blank screen before it really starts to load Windows....
I am having trouble booting up my windows 7 bootcamp, whenever i try to bootup it would give me some screen right after the windows logo and it'll say to repair or somthing, is this a common problem?

I am wondering if there is a way to have my iMac boot up in OS/X by default and if I want to use windows then use the hold down option method. So when I also come out of windows that it will go to OS/X without having to hold down the option key while I boot. Is this possible? If so how do I configure it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my macbook If I don't hold the options key it goes straight to an apple than circle with line through it. If I hold options key I get two hard drives one that says just hard drive one that says windows. Windows seems to work fine other than the missing drivers for the Ethernet, wireless airport, and a few others. I have tried everything. I for some reason cannot get to the mac side. It doesn't even show up and nothing relating to bootcamp shows up. I split the partitions 35G to windows the rest to "mac" side. I would be just as happy with installing the drivers if I could get them installed I know very little about Mac's and should have left well enough alone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Boot Camp on my machine and removed it thereafter. However it has slowed down my startup for mac now to almost 4 MINS!!! from 30seconds before. I have googled all the forums and tried the following without success :
- reinstalling the software
- deleting the PRAM
- selecting the Mac HDD as Startup disk but to no avail.
- scanned/fixed/verify all permissions
something must have corrupted the MAC OS...can anyone suggest a way out of this slow boot up? Its like having a ferrari but can only move after a rolling start.
The Broadcom Wifi drivers which installed with Boot Camp 3.0 were version 5.10.38.26 dated 10/22/2008 and have better performance or at least a connection speed than the current Broadcom Wifi drivers that came with Boot Camp 3.1 which are version 5.60.18.8 dated 8/21/2009.
View 2 Replies View Relatedperhaps I am doing something wrong? I wanted to install Windows XP on my iMac. I previously had partitioned my Mac drives. I backed everything on these drives to my external and blew the partitions away creating my one Mac drive again.
I then ran Bootcamp, created a partition and installed XP. Everything was fine. I then partitioned my main drive and got the warning message about Bootcamp maybe not working afterwards. So I finished partitioning my Mac drive as I wanted and now I don't have the option of booting into XP through Bootcamp. When I try it just shows the Mac drive as my only boot option. I see the XP Bootcamp drive in the System Preferences startup disk area, but I assume I did something to the partition once I partitioned my Mac drives
So, I was on windows, using bootcamp, and I was creating partitions on a pen drive with it, and then it asks me that it needs to restart to apply changes.
But then, while restarting, a blue screen occurred (**** windows).... And I forced the shutdown pressing the power key.
Then, I simply turned the MacBook on, trying to boot on my snow leopard and I got a flashing folder with a question mark on it. Now I can't access any partitions on it, if I press option key on startup I get a blank window!
I tried to reset PRAM, repair the MacOs partition using the snow leopard DVD (it shows up fine, along with windows partition and EFI partition), and I still don't get my startup disk showing up...

I purchased a new hard drive, my second Samsung 750 GB. My first one is partitioned, half for OSX half for Vista. Ultimately, I want to have a hard drive per operating system.
At first I thought the way to go for this, based on some stuff I read here on Mac Rumors was to use winclone to clone the windows partition,restore it to the new drive, and then I don't know what.I did the restore, there were errors in the log though..something about the wrong kind of partition. Basically it's become a pain in the ass, and I'm thinking there has to be an easier way.
It occurred to me, I might be able to use "Install and Archive" to move the boot volume to the new disk, moving the user files and network settings with it. If I did this would I be able to expand the windows partition using winclone utilizing the full hard drive? Or could moving the boot volume to the new disk mess up my Windows partition?

I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.

Depending on what the next MP specs are I may or may not upgrade in the next 6 months, or whenever the next MP is released. Could I take the BootCamp/Win XP drive and pop it in the new machine or does it have to live and die in the originally installed machine? I know you can't do this w/ Vista, but not sure what XP will do?
