I did a clean install of snow leopard and i wanted to install Windows 7 via boot camp but when I go to bootcamp utility i get a message
"You must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant."
Not sure what I need to update? I have a 2009 Mac Pro running SL.
I'm putting together a workstation that primarily is going to be used for Windows development and I wanted to have as fast a disk subsystem as possible.
It doesn't seem to be BootCamp drivers available for the card that Apple sells, so I found this card instead:

It has EFI firmware and is able to boot MacOSX from raid arrays. The only question is if it is able to boot stuff through Bios emulation.
Vista x64 is the primary target here, and SP1 actually has EFI booting support, so it might be possible to use this. However when I tried to install Vista x64 with SP1 integrated on the MacBook Air I wasn't even able to boot installer DVD because of EFI incompatibilities.
Anyone have any experiences with booting BootCamp on a MacPro with a raid card?
ok Im pondering buying a mac pro once they release the updates and I am wondering if I can take a 3.5" SATA drive out of my current desktop running XP and transplant it into the mac pro then use it with either VMware or bootcamp. So will this work or will I have to partition my hard drive and buy another copy of XP?

Tried initially placing this drive on one of the two xtra SATA ports and mounting it where the extra CD drive goes, then discovered that Windows won't recognize and would need drivers/hacking etc.
Have decided to put it in regular bay 4 and use bootcamp. Do I need to install any special drivers to maximize the ability of Windows to access this drive?

I have a 2008 MacPro with dual 2.8's running the latest version of 10.5 (I have been reluctent to upgrade to 10.6). I also use Apples's magic mouse.
The only reason I still use my PC is for Quicken. I have tried trials of Mac replacements but they just didn't cut it for me and Essentials has had disappointing reviews. So I have a full copy of XP Pro, SP2 coming.
I was going to do a small partition of 20 or 30 gigs and install XP and Quicken using Boot Camp.
Any advice/comments form those with Mac/Windows experience?
My Mac is hard wired to my Airport so wireless internet is not an issue and I may not even activate internet for the windows partition. No need for Mac to PC file sharing either.
Will the Blue Tooth mouse work?
I have read SP3 can cause problems so stay with sp2?
Might it be better to have a HD just for windows?
Macpro 8 Core 2.4Ghz with 12Gig RAM and top ATI card. Running Windows 7 through Bootcamp (much better than Parallels 6!). Ran the Performance Benchmark and returned a score of 7.6, except for HD which was 5.3. Apparently the top score for current hardware is 7.9, so I am wondering if others have run the test, and whether this is hardware or driver related etc, and what other people are getting.....

I'm looking for a new video card for a MacPro 1.1 (Intel 2007) that will handle Steam source engine games decently and also work with bootcamp. I'm OK with BIOS flashing a PC card but I don't want to have to deal with patching files as well to get it to work since its going into a friends Mac and I won't always be around to show him how to patch stuff if he ever reinstalls OS X.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of usb stuff strung out: 6 kbds, 5 mice (three kinds), 4 audio interfaces, 7 hubs not counting in kbds, etc.; most powered. At the root of the USB tree is a KVM switch feeding a new MacBook (10.5.2) and a G5-Quad (10.4.11) This all pretty much works fine and runs for weeks without hiccup.
But tonight, one MacPro kbd, quit. It's at the end of the chain, but it has been working fine. Plugged into hub one level up it's fine. A new Apple thin-flat kbd plugged in where it was works fine.
When MacPro kbd plugged in, the light on the hub port flashes. Other stuff (Wacom tablet, Insignia speakers) works fine and lights the lights. With other stuff pulled (use less power?) kbd fails the same.
So what's up with this sort of problem, and how does one trace/debug? Usually, when (once in a while) there's a USB problem, just unplug and plug back in and it works again.
1) Can I take my secondary drive in my Powermac G5 and install it into my forthcoming Mac Pro ? Or is the SATA interface different on the new machines.
2) Ordering extra memory from Crucial to save $, what's the situation with 'fans' and things on the memory. I'm confused, totally. Does the mac pro's require additional heat cooling on the memory, does the memory from crucial come with this, is it easy to install like the powermac or am I going to be left floundering like a fish out of water....

I am trying to partition my hard drive into 4 partitions. However, I can't get Windows working with more than 2 partitions. I know that there is some way to get this to work, I just haven't been able to find the necessary hack/guide. To make matters more complicated, my Windows partition is set over 32 GB, in fact, it is about 80 GB. I'm willing to completely re-install everything and completely repartition my hard drive to get this to work. I just would like to know of a sure fire step by step way to get this setup working. 3 Partitions HFS+ and 1 partition for Windows XP SP3 = 4 partitions.
I recently erased my HD and installed everything from scratch. I made a partition with Bootcamp (I had already successfully done this before) but this time the only difference was that I did a 64 GB partition instead of a 32GB (So the partition is formatted as a NTFS instead of FAT32). Everything installed without any problems (Windows XP) But when I inserted my Snow Leopard disk to install the Drivers (as it is mentioned in the instructions of Bootcamp) the XP OS won't recognise my disk and won't install anything. I also tried to download the drivers from the Apple website and install manually but without success (the installers simply won't open). So... my question is: Is there a problem with having a bigger disk partition (which means other than FAT32) in Snow Leopard?

I have done a lot of searches on the net and tried a lot of advice offered including some from this forum - reinstall driver, tick boxes, until boxes, scale up, etc. Its a 2008 iMac with XP SP3 installed on Snow Leopard. the driver is from Realtek. View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot "see" my Windows partition from the preferences pane in bootcamp (osx) (where I would go to set Windows as a boot partition). The only way I can make Windows to start is by using the Option key at boot.
Strange this is, the partition is visible on my Osx desktop (mounted), I can browse the files etc... but Bootcamp somehow thinks it's gone.

I took windows off and now snow leopard wont work at all. The screen just goes black and it says a few words like install. How do i get snow leopard to start when I turn my computer on?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install windows 7 using bootcamp. I have a windows 7 premium 64 bit iOS, an intel MacBook air 128 ssd drive, and a 16gb Kingston108. I used bootcamp put windows on the flashdrive with the updates and drivers. Partitioned the hard drive (20 gb for windows). Then it restarted the Mac, it kind of sat on the grey startup for a minute then went to a black screen that said non-system disk press any key to reboot. I pressed any key, it didn't reboot, I pushed every key, it didn't reboot. I then held the power button down to force the shutdown. I restarted and same issue. I then option held and booted into Mac os and re did the whole process and same issue.

Yesterday I bought the steel series 7H gaming headset (no USB external soundcard included) to game in hardcore pro Korean mode on my mac once in a while, but when I try to connect it to windows 7 (under bootcamp), I get no input from the microphone! Been searching and can't find the answer here. I setup Bootcamp last week and had internet connection and everything working fine. I've setup Parallels now as well and I am connecting to the Bootcamp partition with this via OS X.
So, everything is working well, I can view my local websites on Leopard via Parallels, the only thing that has stopped working is my wireless internet connection in windows.
My only guess is the Bootcamp is now connecting to everything via my OS X connections, but not sure. Does anyone know how to set the wireless internet up again?
Has anyone really tried out the ability to access your OSX Partition from Windows yet? I'm able to see mostly everything but the one folder I want to see, my home folder! It just shows up empty. Maybe it's because I have my account password protected, but just for installing programs, not for logging in. Plus, if that was what is causing it to not work, Apple should have asked for a username and password to login to the folder. Will Apple ever get its Windows Bootcamp software working correctly? They sure can never get it on the first try.
View 24 Replies View RelatedIf I use the mini display to DVI to connect to a projector, it will work if the displays are mirrored, but if I extend the display, where the projector has a higher resolution, the projector display will have artifacts, noise, and if it has a lot of pictures or videos on the screen, the display sometimes stops working. Even if i set the display resolution to match the same as the laptop, I still get noise and artifacts unless I mirror the displays.
Then if I true to use the mini port VGA to the same projector but Windows won't recognize the projector. I've seen several reports about this. I have the latest Intel graphics driver and my bootcamp partition is running Windows 7, fully updated and patched.
Lastly, this seems to only happen with my MBA with the Intel HD 3000 graphics. I have another MBA with the Nvidia 300M and the mini port to DVI works fine.

installed vista on my mac. When I boot into vista, a message saying " boot camp manager has stop working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. " the fn keys dont work. So I reinstalled boot camp and everything was fine until the next time I log into vista and same message pops up. Reinstalled again and same thing happens everytime.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy imac is around 4 years old and has been running both windows bootcamp and os x snow leopard for at least 3 years without any problems. My default operating system is mac and when I tried to turn it on this morning it gets stuck on the white screen with the grey apple icon and the loading icon spinning. Also a bar appears below this that I have never seen before. Â I have tried opening the mac in recovery mode but it does not respond and goes to the same logo screen. Â
I have tried holding the 'D' key down while the mac comes on and doing the apple hardware test but once the window pops up it does not complete the probing and appears to freeze just before its completion. Â I have also tried booting in safemode but the script stops at these commands:
-launch tl: Please convert the following to launchd: etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisory.plist
-launch_msg(): socket is not connectedÂ
However, the windows bootcamp is working fine and I can access my mac files from there.Also worth mentioning is that it is not a grey screen that appears on start up it is just the normal apple icon screen. Â
