MacBook :: BootCamp Disk Space Error - OS Partition Corrupt
Mar 28, 2012My Finder says that I have about 50GB free, Disk Utility says I have about 20GB free, and Boot Camp says I have less than 10GB free. I ran a Disk Verify in my Mac OS Partition, it says the OS disk is corrupt. I went to the Recovery Partition, it says everything is fine. What do I do to fix these issues?

Jun 10, 2008the other day ive decided to finally put xp on my macbook, just so everybody knows i use my macbook for my uni assignments and to store all my close memories (photos and diaries) so the data on there is vital and priceless. I launched the bootcamp application and i chose to partition 32gb for the windows, at this point i turned away to use my main PC playin a game while my macbook is partitioning away. i look back about 10mins later and i see a grey screen asking me to reset my macbook in few different languages. i didnt really read it properly thinking its apple and everything is idiotproof! it said to hold the power button in for few seconds to reset which i did, i resetted it and i was expecting the bootcamp to relaunch to further continue the operation (installin windows time or doin the driver disk thing) but it doesnt happen. i put the xp disc in and it doesnt load, and i look in finder and im missing a good 32gb, i restarted again holding the option key and i only see the Mac HD icon. i am a fairly new mac user and i just want to keep it full mac, i want to restore the way that it was without the stupid windows idea. is there a safe way to remerge my partitions together into the orginal full one? also ive used disk utitilies and it doesnt pick up another partition.

Jun 7, 2010I just restore my Mac OS to a single partition and then I tried re-partitioning but it's giving me an error.
I've tried several times, tried using different sizes every time. My HD's capacity is 250GB, and I've got 108.95GB free. So I am sure that making a new partition of 35 - 40 GB is not a big deal. I also tried using Disk Utility, both from the Mac OS install disc and while using the Mac OS itself, but it keeps giving me this error. I do not want to format my Macintosh HD's partition because I don't have an external HDD on me at the moment so I will not be able to back up. I have a lot of important data that can not be deleted.

It then orders me to ~gasp~ back my files, and reinstall OSX. Anyone else have this error message? I wanted a 14GB partition, and that would leave about 16 additional gigs free on the OSX partition

Jan 15, 2008To make a long story short, I cannot get past the stage in the Boot Camp install process where you make a partition on the hard drive for Windows. I get this error message: The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. I do not have a removable hard drive to back up my data on. I've got two flash drives that I put my most important documents on but that's it. I can use my IPod Nano to store my ITunes library until this gets figured out.
The only data I would really lose would be my firefox information, though I did get the book mark history, my video game saved data (4 games), and programs like Word 04, Flip4Mac, and other miscellaneous gadgets. I have already shelled out $80 for the Leopard upgrade and $120 for XP. I have no other need for a removable hard drive and as such I will not buy one. I just got off the phone with Apple Tech Support, one hour of it, and after trying repairing disk permissions and other Disk Utility functions we got nowhere. I tried booting from the Leopard disk and doing the same Disk utility repair/repair permissions to no avail.
Varying the size of the partition had no effect. I tried wiping the free space on my hard drive via Disk Utilities and that did nothing. I have plenty of room on my hard drive, it's 120GB and I have a shade over 60GB remaining. The information on "Mac HD" is as follows:

During the rebook with the Leopard CD, there were apparently some disk permission errors. During the repair permissions process it appeared they could not be repaired but were modified or something to that effect. I just ran another -verify disk-verify disk permissions-repair disk permissions and these errors did not show up. A subsequent attempt at partitioning failed. I was directed to call tech support tomorrow AM and am supposed to ask for someone in 'Tier 2', but I'm hoping someone has some ideas that do not including wiping my entire hard drive and starting from scratch. Particularly since I don't know if that will actually work
Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Partition Disk Process Stuck With Error
Apr 22, 2009I have an alu iMac with a 500GB HDD. There is about 200GB free. Every time I run the Bootcamp Assistant, choose a Windows partition (doesn't matter what size), it sits with the progress bar spinning for ages before it gives me the error "Disk could not be partitioned as some files cannot be moved. Please reformat the disk and try again". There is no way I can back the disk up, reformat, reinstall and re-update everything. No other apps are running when I run the Bootcamp Assistant.

Jan 30, 2009Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

Nov 11, 2010I recently made a clone of my Windows XP Pro SP3 installation (its roughly about 14GB according to Finder/WinClone) so i made a 80GB partition on my 320GB drive and it gives me this error message:
the WinClone came from a 500GB internal drive and ive gotten winclone images to restore to a MBP before but not sure why its giving me this error code, anyway to restore the image to the new partition (which was created with Bootcamp) as i no longer have access to the old machine it was running on.

Can I add a third partition to my drive after I partition for BootCamp? My main partition ("Macintosh HD" by default) is over 900GB large and I'd really like to cut that up into 2x450GB, for example, in addition to the 93GB BootCamp partition.
Second, once partitioned, is it possible to resize the BootCamp partition to make it bigger after it has been set up?

Aug 5, 2009I have a 13" MBP with a 250 gb hd, I partitioned the HD 25gb for Windows XP shortly after I bought it. I was unable to install my copy of windows, contacted apple after exhaustive search as to why... Long story short, I now have Vista to install... When I went back to Boot Camp Assistant; partition was gone. Researched... ran disk utility, repaired and erased partition. Bootcamp HD now shows up in desktop, still not in bootcamp assistant. Since I am unable to locate in assistant; would there be any problems with just installing Vista off the install disk by restarting? Any ideas what to do if this is not a good idea (short of restoring)?

I've tried anything as low as resizing it to 10gb to 100gb... both fails.I have more than 200gb free space.I have just run a full defrag with iDefrag I've tried to do fileoptimization with techtool pro v5

I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?

May 3, 2009Bought an OEM version to use with bootcamp. Everything works fine up to the point where it is supposed to let me format the partition that bootcamp created. The XP installation just skips right from when I select the C:yatta-yatta/bootcamp partition and starts installing. So obviously the partition is not bootable... Does anyone know if this is because the OEM version of the OS or something else. I tried to reduce the size of the partition because I read a thread about FAT32 not playing well with disc sizes greater than 32Gb. Still didn't work...

Jan 23, 2009I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.
I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."

Jan 12, 2010First some background info. I recently purchased a 1TB hard drive for my 13" MBP, and I am about to do a clean install of OSX 10.6 and Win7 64bit on separate partitions.
And I want to setup the partitions before I install using Disk Utility. The reason for this is because I'm under the assumption that when creating a NTFS partition its better for the disk to be blank so it can put the MFT(Master file table) and MFT Mirror wherever it wants instead of some random spot on the disk (that way disk writes will be faster). The MFT thing was true when converting a FAT32 disk to NTFS. Nativity formatted NTFS disks were always faster then ones converted from FAT32, because the MFT was spread out instead of at the start of the disk.
I'm worried that installing OSX and then using the bootcamp utility will cause the MFT on my NTFS partition to end up in a un-optimal place and disk Reads/Writes will be slower.
Ok, so here's my questions.
1.) Should I be using a GUID Partition Table or Master Boot Record(Remember OSX 10.6 and Win7)?
2.) Should I use Disk Utility to Create a the OSX partition and then leave the second partition as Free Space? / Or should I use a third party utility and make the OSX partition and the NTFS partition at the same time?
3.) If I do create the partitions Manualy, will bootcamp still work correctly?
4.) Should I Use Journaled or Case-Sensitive Journaled on my OSX partition?
I know all of the questions were stupid, but there isn't any info on the web about it.
