Mar 12, 2012

Why can't I ping my Lion Server via it's IPv6 address (using a tool on the provider's network) where IPv4 works all the time?

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Email Address Requires Host Name In Address Field

May 5, 2012

I'm trying to setup mail on Lion Sever (7.3). The only way I can get it to accept incoming mail is to specify the whole FQDN of the server in the address. For example the domain name is example.com and I have a user set up called john. Sending mail to john@server.example.com works.

But sending mail to john@example.com (which is what I want) returns an error:
554 554 5.7.1 <john@example.com>: Relay access denied (state 13).

For internal DNS, I have:
example.com - primary zonemail.expample.com - alias server.example.comserver.example.com - 192.168.1.2 [URL] - alias server.example.com MX record [URL]

I see references here to problems in mail on 7.3 but not this specific problem.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Turn Off IPv6

Mar 15, 2012

I have been having problems with wifi on my Macbook Air 4,2 and I wanted to try turning off IPv6. However, when I go to network settings to do so, the option to turn it off is not there. I've included a screenshot to show you what I see when I go to network settings. I don't know why this option would have disappeared. Is there a program that could have disabled this?

OS X Server :: Server's Static IP Address Used By Another Device?

Nov 4, 2006

The following error comes up on the server's screen when I turn on the stations:"IP 10.37.102.21 is used by 00:0d:95:34:ee:60"Another device in my room or building is using the server's static IP address, this causes connectivity problems. I loose connection to the server. How do I find out what device is causing the problem and what do I do to resolve the issue? I am afraid it might be the CISCO 290XL switches used in the lab. I used ARD to check the Ethernet ID's and didn't come up with any workstation using that Ethernet ID or address.

Safari :: Configuring IPv6 In Mac OS X V10.6.7 Or Later?

May 10, 2012

I am using Macbook Air OS X Lion. I have been facing slow internet browsing problem from quite a while now. I checked the forums and found that lot of people are facing the same problem. Also found that disabling IPv6 or setting it to manual mode will help fixing the issue. But another big challenge is how to do it. I tried setting it to manual which would need router address, IPv6 address and prefix length which is supposed to be collected from your ISP. Unfortunately Comcast hasnt implemented IPv6 yet so couldnt find that information.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: AD LDAP Connects To Lion Server But Does Not Show Users / Groups

Feb 19, 2012

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

Software :: 10.4 Tiger And Blocking Ports For IPv6

Feb 8, 2009

I am using free.fr in France, and IPv6 is enabled as part of the service. There are certain services running that were only accessible to the local network, but I now find that if I know the IPv6 address of the machine they are world accessible. I tried limiting services to be only accessible to the local machine, by adjusting the settings in the Firewall configurations in the system preferences, but the services still seem to be world accessible. Do the firewall configurations ignore IPv6? Is there any way to make it so that services are only available to machines in the local networks via IPv6. I suspect I going to need a command line tool or a third-party tool.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Set To Using Dhcp And To Configure Ipv6 Automatically?

Apr 6, 2012

I am trying to get an older Macbook Pro running 10.5.1 online and it is not working. I'm currently using 3 other Macs on the WiFi network all running Snow Leopard, so I know that network works.  I tried renewing the dhcp lease and I have it set to using dhcp and to configure ipv6 automatically, and there are 2 ip addresses under dns servers (I typed these in because they showed on my other MBP). I can't even upgrade the MBP because I have no ethernet cable and can't plug it in to update it. I can do to get it to work?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book - Address Editing For Group Members?

May 20, 2012

how to specify which of several email addresses should be used for a member of a group.  It starts by selecting the menu item "Edit > Edit Distribution List."  From there it explains how to select the desired address for a specific person.  All well and good...

BUT...

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed.  Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.

Am I missing the secret handshake in this process?  Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?

Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?"  This issue is only the tip of my iceberg.  The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.

IMac :: Turn Off IPv6 For Airtunes - Will That Limit Other Things?

Sep 8, 2009

My airtunes was randomly breaking when trying to stream to my Airport Express and AppleTV. The dreaded (-15000) unknown error message kept appearing. Through searches here and elsewhere, I found a solution that has worked for me. I have turned off IPv6. System Pref >> Network >>Advanced >> TCP/IP >> Configure IPv6: set it to "off". It was on "Automatically" prior to my change. This switch fixed my problem with the airtunes streaming. My question is: Will this prevent me from fully utilizing anything else that my require IPv6? I'm not familiar with what that might be, or why we even need it. From what I've read, it's likely something needed or utilized on a large network, but at home, it seems unnecessary. Am I missing something or will I regret having to turn it off?

MacBook Air :: Unable To Get IP Address From DHCP Server

Jan 9, 2011

I've recently purchased my first Mac (the new 13.3 inch air model). I seem to be having a bit of a problem with wireless networking, though. It seems that my Mac will reconnect to my wireless network perfectly after resuming from sleep mode just fine for a few days, but after those few days, it will mysteriously stop being able to get an IP address from the DHCP server (my wireless router). My PC is able to connect to the network just fine and always seems to be able to get a new address, but the Mac just loses the ability. I have found that the only way I can get the Mac to start grabbing an IP address from the router is by going into the router settings and changing the RIP mode to a value other than what it currently shows. I generally try to stay in RIP_2B mode, but I change it to some other random value whenever it stops connecting.

Jun 11, 2012

This is probably a stupid question, but why isn't there an address contact button that you can click on in a new message from MAIL? Am I missing something here? In all previous versions of the OS one could just do that and a list of contacts popped up and then you could click on one and it would go to the "To" slot. There's got to be an easier way than to open the contact book, find an address, copy it, then place it in the message "To" slot.
