Mac OS X Lion Server :: Email Address Requires Host Name In Address Field

May 5, 2012

I'm trying to setup mail on Lion Sever (7.3). The only way I can get it to accept incoming mail is to specify the whole FQDN of the server in the address. For example the domain name is example.com and I have a user set up called john. Sending mail to john@server.example.com works.

But sending mail to john@example.com (which is what I want) returns an error:
554 554 5.7.1 <john@example.com>: Relay access denied (state 13).

For internal DNS, I have:
example.com - primary zonemail.expample.com - alias server.example.comserver.example.com - 192.168.1.2 [URL] - alias server.example.com MX record [URL]

I see references here to problems in mail on 7.3 but not this specific problem.

MacBook :: Software Update Can't Connect To Update Server

Apr 4, 2012

I am trying to update my Mac book because it is saying that software updates are available (Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3). But I keep getting a message saying "Some of the selected updates could not be installed. Software updates can't connect to the update server. Make sure you are connected to the internet and then try again"I am using a DLINK wireless router and have had problems with the internet connection dropping in and out on my Macbook, Ipad and iphone but it now seems to be working on all devices so given I am connected to the internet I don't know why the software updates won't install on my Macbook.

OS X Server :: Server's Static IP Address Used By Another Device?

Nov 4, 2006

The following error comes up on the server's screen when I turn on the stations:"IP 10.37.102.21 is used by 00:0d:95:34:ee:60"Another device in my room or building is using the server's static IP address, this causes connectivity problems. I loose connection to the server. How do I find out what device is causing the problem and what do I do to resolve the issue? I am afraid it might be the CISCO 290XL switches used in the lab. I used ARD to check the Ethernet ID's and didn't come up with any workstation using that Ethernet ID or address.

OS X :: Changing The MAC Address In 10.5.6?

Mar 31, 2009

I've been searching all over the interwebs and I can't seem to find a way to change the MAC address of my MBP wireless for Leopard 10.5.6. It appears that some worked with earlier versions of 10.5 but changing it has been "disabled?" somehow with the latest update.

Anyone know anything about it? I tried using instructions from sites like:[URL]

Still doesn't work for me.

OS X :: Spoofing/changing MAC Address?

Apr 11, 2009

I'm getting a new iMac delivered on Tuesday, but I'm in student accommodation, and the internet (which costs 90 a pop!) is set to a certain mac address, namely the one for my old macbook.

I know you can change a mac address (I think, based on some searching that it's with the
Code:

sudo ifconfig en0 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx command), but does that change it change it permanently or just make it look different? Say, for example, if I had to reformat, or say, boot into windows with boot camp, would I need to change it again or would it be set permanently?

OS X :: Changing IP Address In Airport On My Laptop?

Aug 15, 2009

I have a MacBookPro running OSX 10.5.8 and I've been connecting wirelessly with my NETGEAR Wireless N Router (WNR2000) for the past week but then all of a sudden I'm not able to connect to the internet anymore. I keep getting this message "you have a self assigned IP Address but may not be able to connect to the internet."

I've done all the basic troubleshooting with resetting the Router to factory setting and also unplugged and restarted my modem and Router and laptop.

I've called my ISP (Time Warner Cable) and they've gone through the same troubleshooting with me. I know my internet works as I've been using Ethernet and it works. The person over at Time Warner and she said that my internet and even Netgear wireless router is giving the right IP address but when i checked my network settings on my computer, the IPv4 address is this: 169.254.52.45.

I've checked on various sites and i found that IP that starts with 169.254.xxx is the default setting for airports. I don't know how to set the right IP on my airport on my laptop? It's annoying because I've tried setting my airport on my laptop USING DHCP with manual address with the correct IP from my ethernet connection but doesn't seem to work. I'm at the end of the ropes before smashing my router and computer to a million pieces.

MacBook Air :: Unable To Get IP Address From DHCP Server

Jan 9, 2011

I've recently purchased my first Mac (the new 13.3 inch air model). I seem to be having a bit of a problem with wireless networking, though. It seems that my Mac will reconnect to my wireless network perfectly after resuming from sleep mode just fine for a few days, but after those few days, it will mysteriously stop being able to get an IP address from the DHCP server (my wireless router). My PC is able to connect to the network just fine and always seems to be able to get a new address, but the Mac just loses the ability. I have found that the only way I can get the Mac to start grabbing an IP address from the router is by going into the router settings and changing the RIP mode to a value other than what it currently shows. I generally try to stay in RIP_2B mode, but I change it to some other random value whenever it stops connecting.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: 10.7.3 Server Update - Single Sign No Longer Works

Feb 9, 2012

I recently updated my Server running 10.7.0 to version 10.7.3 and single-sign-on no longer works for my users. The 10.7.3 Lion Server System is bound to our Active Directory Server running on Win2003 R2 Server. I tried un-binding and rebinding the system but.. no luck. When a user now tries to login to our shares via AFP with SSO credentials they recieve the message

I can run the id command from terminal on the OS X server and it is seeing AD users. Unfortunately, no one can log into the server shares via AFP with an AD user.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Software Update Server / No Original For Index.sucatalog Alias?

Trying to set up the Software Update Server under 10.6.8 Server. Have everything set up properly as per Apple's documentation, but all clients error out on software updates (saying they can't find the index. sucatalog file). When you view this file, which is an alias, within the HTML folder that is created when you enable the Software Update service in Server Admin, the alias doesn't link to an original.I've tried this on two separate 10.6.8 Server installations and I get the same error on both machines.Where is the alias "index.sucatalog" supposed to point to?Software Update Error Log in Server Admin says "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" and points to the alias file.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Software Update Server Not Pushing All Updates

Jun 28, 2012

I am running Lion Server 10.7.4, with Software Update Server running. My clients are all configured to hit that server as I have them pointed to it via a preference modification (I've also used Workgroup Manager with the same results).  What's happening is this:

Client runs SW update locally, it goes to my server and either:

1. It finds no updates (although this is false). If I run same update to Apple's servers ot finds updates

or

2.It finds updates but not all of them. This is what's happening more of the time.

I can verify in the access logs on the server that clients are in fact hitting the server. Is there some sort of cache that needs to be cleared? I was reading something about an Apache issue, or perhaps DNS? I have tried both local IP address as well as name of server.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Software Update Can't Connect To The Update Server

Mar 24, 2012

"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available. This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.

I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.

OS X Server :: Changing The DNS Server That ODM Uses?

Mar 15, 2007

I have an OD domain that I manage for my office. I've just been told that our head office wants our Macs to now be part of AD, this by itself is not a issue, in testing we have been able to bind our clients and everything is working OK. The issue I have is this...

When I setup my OD domain I was using my own DNS running from the ODM but now I need to use the DNS server from the head office. Changing the ip on the server is not a problem (changeip), beside making sure that my ODM is registered in the new DNS with forward and reverse what do I need to do to make sure that when I shut off the DNS service on the ODM that nothing will break?

Servers and clients are all running 10.4.x

OS X :: Software Update Can't Find The Update Server?

Apr 14, 2009

I got some eMacs for cheap and am currently cleaning them up.

When I try to run Software Update on them, I get the message that says "Software Update can't find the update server. Make sure you are connected to the internet, then try again."

These computers are definitely connected to the internet as I can browse from them.
Is it possible that they are looking for an old update server?

They're running 10.4.7 and 10.4.8.

I've tried deleting the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file as described here but that didn't work.

OS X :: Software Update Cannot Connect To The Update Server?

Mar 30, 2010

Yesterday, I was about to install a couple of updates when I realized that they'd force me to restart. So I closed out Software Update and went along with my business. I also decided to change the short name of my account, as I took over my brother's and wanted to change it.Today, I saw that iTunes 9.1 had come out and ran Software Update and lo and behold, Software Update stalls with nearly no progress and hops around the dock. I switched to Software Update and it tells me: "Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem." and under that "Software Update can't connect to the update server. Make sure you're connected to the Internet, and then try again."
