OS X :: Detecting Exchange Server Crashes Mail - ICal And Address Book
Aug 29, 2009
Having installed Snow Leopard today on my macbook, I was keen to set up Mail, iCal and address book with my exchange account. However, when I use any of these apps to detect my account settings, it crashes the respective programs. Entourage web services manages to connect my accounts but I don't find it particularly user friendly. Has anyone had a similar experience? If I can't resolve this, is there a way to manually configure accounts in the new apps?

For myself and several others at our organization, Mail.app started crashing a couple of days ago whenever a message is opened and the sender's email address is in our Exchange Global Address Book. The question then is, how does Mail display or look up those addresses differently in the message reading window/pane rather than "external" email addresses?

I would actually use these features, but knowing that I would get my MacBook back with a wiped hard drive If I ever have to send it in for repairs, makes me think it would just be a big hassle. Unless there was a way to back up all the info to a thumb drive or CD for later reinstall.

I purchased a Mac computer with Snow Leopard already installed on the computer, and somewhere along the way I deleted iCal. As I understand it from the Apple link below, iCal is "bundled" with Mac Mail and Address Book [URL]. And that Mac Mail can be configured to include online email accounts like gmail. I'm currently using Mac Mail 4.3 (1081), and as far as I know, I cannot use this version of Mac Mail to include online email like gmail. This particular version of Mac Mail is corrupted on my computer as the plus sign and edit buttons on the bottom of the Address Book are not visible. I am interested in re-gaining the use of the plus sign and edit button within the Mac Mail Address Book, and also in accessing online email accounts within Mac Mail.
Since Snow Leopard was already installed on my computer when I purchased it, I don't currently have a Snow Leopard installation disk. As such, what is the best way for me to update my Mac Mail application in order to use the Address Book and online email account applications mentioned above within Mac Mail. My best guess is to purchase the Snow Leopard installation disk independently, and use Pacifist software to extract iCal from this disk, and through iCal, use Mac Mail for my two applications of interest.

I have leopard on my macbook pro and restarted the whole operating system from scratch. Before doing this I copied all my data onto an external. Although my time machine has a lot of information on it, the last time I backed up my computer was a good 20 days ago so I think that is useless. Anyways, I was wondering if there was any way to recover my ical calendars, address book contacts and mail inbox history from my library folder?

If I upgrade Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (on a 2009 MacBook 5.2), is the update limited to OS X or can I also expect to see upgrades to free apps like Address Book, Mail and iCal? If the free apps do not change to match the latest versions available, can I expect updates to the free apps soon?

Has anyone got Address Book/iSync working with Exchange 2003? I've followed all of Apple's steps to enable Address Book's synchronization with Exchange, and I manually force iSync to sync with Exchange.
I used to get an "iSync couldn't connect to Exchange" error, but after resetting iSync's history, now I get no error message. In my exchange server's log, I do see the entry:
2007-05-04 03:11:15 W3SVC1 10.0.0.3 HEAD /exchange/me/Contacts - 80 DOMAINme 10.0.0.19 CFNetwork/129.20 302 0 64
so it's obviously connecting to exchange, but does not populate the address book. It's pissing me off and some blog entry with a workaround at [URL] makes absolutely no sense (and only works on Panther according to the comments.. I'm running OS X Tiger).
Edit: I should also note I've tried the following:
1. Disabled SSL and tried syncing - no dice
2. Tried syncing with my OWA server at work - still no dice

I configured Lion 10.7.3 to sync mail, contacts, and calendar with my corporate Exchange 2010 server. Mail and iCal sync fine. But Address Book shows a blank Exchange Contacts list. The Mail app Show Addresses dialog also shows a blank Exchange Contacts list. I have no problems syncing 450+ Exchange Contacts to other devices including iPhone. I tried deselecting and re-selecting Exchange Contacts in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars > Exchange. Same results, blank Exchange Contacts list. Console Diagnostic and Usage Messages shows several incidents of this message. This might be normal. I see similar entries for iCal, which sync'd fine.

So at my new job they use Exchange Server 2007 for mail and calendars, and supposedly I should be able to view other people's calendars, but I can't find any way to do this in iCal.

I've installed the Facetime beta, but I'm not getting any contacts listed for me to call.
I suspect that this is because I have all of my contacts stored on an Exchange based email account (in order that it can sync between all of my devices, etc), rather than being stored "On My Mac".
Can anyone with a similar configuration confirm that they have the same problem?
This is going to be dead on arrival if I can't call people - I'm certainly not going to duplicate all of my existing contacts in my Address Book to a second copy stored "On My Mac" in Address Book just to be able to dial someone.

I cannot edit contact pictures in my contacts, but only for one of my accounts.
I have 2 address book accounts. One private set up to sync via CardDAV to Lion Server, and one work account on Exchange 2010 SP1. Adding or editing contact photos works on my private account both on my iPhone/iPad and on my MAC. On my work account I can edit och change picture but not ADD a picture on my mac, but it works on my iPhone/iPad.

I want to add the info I keep in these two programs to my daily backup. I use Backup btw. Anyone know where the info is actually kept? I did some searches, and it seems maybe to be in the Apps themselves? Can't be sure.

I have been given the attached one-pager with screenshots of how to configure a Windows Outlook client to work with our corporate email system (Exchange).
I want to configure the Mail client on my Mac, however.
Can anyone give me a clue where these things are entered? When I add a new account in Mac Mail, and choose Exchange 2007, I don't see similar fields. My guesses so far have resulted in "the server cannot be contacted on port 443

I am am relatively new returnee to Mac--I quit back in the early '90s and am now back. But it is clear that if Mac is to win over corporate users (and that surely is the way to wider use and ultimate victory over the PC) these two basic programs need work.
Some initial thoughts if what I want:
iCal
The display should be able to show part of one month and part of another --i.e. at the moment the last 2 weeks of December and the first 2 of January. Why can't the scroll wheel 'roll' the months up and down?
Address Book
I have something like 900 contacts in my address book, many of them remembered because of where they work, not because of there last name opr specific title or job. Yes, I do know you can check the book to have the company name displayed in the sort list but that's a slow and painful way of doing it--especially if you have 10 or more contacts working for the same firm and you then have to look at each in turn to discov er who you want.
I would like to be alter the display to show 2-lines of choice: say company above and last/first name below or maybe title below. I could then tell who is who without having to search each entry.
Ideally the sort function would be expanded to allow one to sort by, first, company and then, last name.

When adding to or editing Address Book or iCal very useful predictive autofill suggestions relating to each field would be displayed (i.e., if I typed "Au" in the country field for example, Australia would appear as a suggestion). This very time saving function has ceased to work. Any ideas on how to get it back up and running? I'm running OSX.6.4 on an mid 2008 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.8 GHz iMac.

I also have Quicken '07 on my old 15" MacBook Pro and would like to transfer the data so I can continue using it on the new 13" MacBook Pro. There are other things I would like to transfer over to the new 13" MacBook Pro, just certain things that I want, how do I do it? What is the easiest way and fastest way of doing this?

So the company I work for gives Verizon cell phones to their employees. This is good because I get free cell service, and bad because the version phones I get are crappy. I just upgraded to an LG enV3 and really want to sync it with iCal and address book on my mac. I wouldn't mind getting some music on there too. I have been searching on the internet for a half hour now and haven't found anything.
I really don't care what I have to do in terms of software hacks, firmware, whatever. Just sick of having Verizon cripple the technology on their phones so I have to pay for their crappy data transfer service to put things on there. The obvious solution of "go buy an iphone" is unfortunately out of the question right now.

Just bought a new MacBook Pro. I set up my old Mac as a drive, hooked it to the new laptop and dragged most stuff over. However, it claims my old version of Address Book (4.1.2) isn't compatible. How can I transfer my contacts over? I tried syncing my iPhone and the contacts didn't migrate. I tried the same thing unsuccessfully with my iCal (3.0.8).

I finally updated my Mac from Leopard 10.5.8 to 10.6. I got all the latest updates (10.6.8) and am still transferring my apps but having trouble with Apple's Address Book and iCal. I did an export from both on my 10.5 OS then tried importing them into the respective apps under 10.6 When I try that iCal it says "nothing changed". Address Book just hangs. I still have my old 10.5 OS installation on another drive in my Mac Pro and can boot into it if necessary.

I just upgraded my macbook pro 17 inch to snow leopard 10.6.2 from tiger and all seems fine except that it has dropped some of the calendars from iCal (e.g. Personal, and Free), and also my address book is short 2000 addresses! Most annoying and rather odd. Anyone seen this, and have a solution? I went to the backup and tried to double click iCal events documents that are in the missing calendars but they still do not appear in iCal 10.6.

I need to get a new verizon phone, but I do not want to have any data package (so all smartphones including iPhone, blackberry, droid, etc., will not work). I do want to be able to sync my phone with my iCal and contact book on my mac. I can do the sync manually (usb) or bluetooth. I do need the phone to have a keyboard, so I can edit/add contacts and appointments on the phone itself. If I need to purchase third-party software to make the sync possible, which software? Are there particular non-smartphone phone models that do/ do not have this capability?
