Mac :: New IMac 27" I7 - Impressions And Virtualization Options?

This last weekend I bit the bullet, put a pile of Bens on the counter, and walked out of the Apple Store with a top of the line iMac 27" with the high end video adapter, 1TB drive and 8GB memory and wireless mouse and keyboard.The system rocks, is very quite, blazing fast and a real joy to use.I ask your opinion(s) on which virtualization software I should use to run Quicken Premier and one other financial package (Fund Manager) which are Windows XP based

I know that virtualization for mac os x is valid only on mac hw that's because we will take a Mac Pro Server (or other mac server) but we want to know if its possible to create the following architecture: Mac Pro Server hypervisor (VMWare Esxi or other) 1 or more Mac OS X Lion Server (or Snow Leopard Server) Virtual Machines The above architecture is called HW virtualization and we didn't find some thing about it on mac system we only find OS Virtualization that is the following:
Mac Pro Server
Mac OS X
Virtual Machines (Guest)s
The difference between the 2 architectures is that in OS virtualization VM runs as applications (Application Level) over MAC OS X while in HW virtualization VM runs at OS Level. So, it's possible to make hw virtualization over a mac system?

VMware announced Thursday that version 2.0 of its Fusion virtualization software for Mac will include support for Mac OS X Leopard Server virtual machines running on top of Mac OS X.Available in the next public beta, the added functionality is a result of recent changes to the Mac OS X Leopard Server license agreement, which allows users to run multiple copies of Leopard Server on a single piece of Apple hardware, provided that users acquire an individual license for each copy.

On my white iMac (Late 2006, 20" C2D 2.16ghz) I've almost filled the puny standard 250MB HD and am planning to have an authorized repair shop replace the drive. (They quoted me $30 plus the cost of the drive -- is that a good price?)Question: what drive should I put in there? I'm planning to go with a 1TB/7200 RPM drive, but can I or should I go bigger? Faster? Which brands to use, or to avoid?

I just received my new iMac and when I booted it today I had a 4 x 4 inch square condensation patch on the screen just below the webcam. It took 20 minutes to disappear. As the sun was shining through the window I also noticed marks on the screen.First of all I thought they were on the glass and so I wiped the screen with the cleaning cloth, but these are marks are under the glass. Worse of all I also have 4 stuck pixels which are down the centre of the screen. Surely this should be replaced.

i've got an iMac from late 2006. and i'm trying to upgrade the ram..here's the specs...iMac intel MA589LL/A 20in 2.16 1GB ram 250 gig ect so on the box it says upgradeable to 3 GB of ram... but the computer has two slots... which currently have a 512MB card in each of them. so my question is how do i install three gigs of ram? a 1GB card and a 2GB card? this doesn't seem to make sense, because i thought you were always supposed to keep them balanced.... so should i just install 2 - 2GB cards... for a total of 4 gigs... even though the computer will only used 3 gigs?

I looking to upgrade to 8GB on my 21" imac from late 2009. So I've decided owc [URL] might be a good choice. So from what I've seen I have two options, get x2 2GB sticks or one 4GB sticks. Is there a better option? The 4GB stick costs about 10 dollars more but would be more beneficial in the long run because I would be able to upgrade to 10 or 12 in the future sine there will be one more slot open if I wanted to, or but the 4GB stick in a new computer. Or is there a problem or performance issues with having 3 slots only occupied?

Is smcFanControl still the best to use to increase rpm's on fans for macs? Or is there anything new out?This iMac get EXTREMELY HOT on the top left corner it can burn your hand how bad it is.The atual temps are within limits with istat but that excessive heat on the back left top corner is concerning me. If i keep my hand on it for more then 5 seconds it will actually burn my hand.

I wasn't sure whether to post this on the Windows on Mac forum or this but!I purchased the new 2.93 GHz 24-inch iMac yesterday at the Apple Store and the everything works perfectly in the Mac OS. In Boot Camp, however, the sound quality gets really bad.

I'm wondering specifically: What processor is actually inside the new IMacs. The i5 that's in the quad-core and the i7 that's in the quad-core. If anyone knows, what kind of gains are there, let's say in a benchmark test. For going for the i7 over the i5.

I first had was the computer names for the iMac was set to MacBook and the actual macbook names switched to MacBook (2). I figured out how to change that, simple enough. On going problem is that now on the iMac I am set to admin but cant view other users folders they have the minus sign in the bottom corner of the folder and some folders and files have the Name "Staff" for permissions. The only users should be myself "TJ" and my wife "Laura". The MacBook is fine with just her and I as users but the iMac is goofy with "staff".

I just bought a new iMac and moved all my data in from a Time Capsule. I frequently select "all images" and use the Quick Fixes option within Add Effect under the photos tab on the top left corner of the screen to run a batch process. But now when I try it all of the options are grayed out. I can highlight a couple of images and the option is available where normally running a batch is a non-issue.

Four years ago I bought the iMac I am using right now, I was a PC user (actually used Macs in the 90s) and I never knew if I was doing things properly. Since I am buying a new iMAc next week I need to know how to organize folders.
In my current iMac I have all my applications in the applications folder, I think that is ok. But for example, for my Photoshop and Flash projects I have made a folder in the Macintosh HD with my name and inside that folder I have many other folders. How should I organize my work? Should I put them in the documents folder or what?

Then could I later buy a better video/graphics card and get that put in And could I have these things done by official Apple peoples. Im debating whether to get the 512mb ATI Card or an additional 4 gig or Memory with my new iMac.does Apple not offer the really high end ATI Cards with 1 gig of ram?

I am new to macs and recently purchased an imac. My problem is when I connect a usb device such as my iphone or camera there is no sound played signifying that it is connected. I am used to using windows where a noticeable tune it played everytime a device is connected or disconnected. I have tried looking in setting and such without much luck. Is there anywhere else that can turn this feature on??

After debating the need vs. want of the iMac and Mac Pro, I'm going to follow my brain and go with the iMac (27" i7) since I use it for work, though my work is in the business side of the music industry dealing more with email, spreadsheets and some minor music/photo/video editing (which is easily done for me via Apple`s iLife).
My real question is with the 3 external hard drives I want to buy - G Tech 1TB G Drives. I read about daisy chaining the drives, which sounds like a good idea. But am curious about it. Obviously if I have 3 external HDD's and want to use FW800 on all three of them, with only one FW800 on my computer, daisy chaining solves the problem. But in this set-up, what is the potential downside to this? Is there an upside or other reason(s) people daisy chain their drives, too?
I`ll use the iMac's HDD, of course. But I also need one HDD for work (important files, contracts, etc). One for personal (music, photo, video). And lastly, one as a back-up for the other HDD's.
What would my BEST and also cost effective option be? Buy 3 externals and daisy chain them? Use eSata (what would that entail)? Increased speed would be the only major plus I'm looking for with setting these HDD's up. Just not sure all my options...
But keep in mind I don`t need them to mirror each other. HDD 1 (iMac) has my minor importance stuff. HDD 2 has my work files and business stuff. HDD 3 is personal photos, videos and massive iTunes collection (300gb). And HDD 4 is a back-up of all the others. Raid seems to be not exactly what I need - perhaps overkill on cost, too. What do you think? Also, I know everyone has their taste in externals. I actually had great reliability in Western Digitals MyBook Studios, and My Passbooks. But some people I know had good time with the G Tech`s - aside from them looking cool.

I've searched online and in threads here on the "can I use an iMac as a monitor" question, and found mostly negative answers. One exception seems to be the 27" model connected via mini-Display Port.However, I'd been hoping to connect an older (G4/DVI) Mini to a new (21.5") iMac, to use the iMac as a monitor.The only semi-hack solution I've seen is to use Screen Recycler or similar software. I have two questions, though:-Can Screen Recycler be used to mirror a desktop, not just extend it? (all info I've seen talks only about extending/2nd monitor, not mirroring).
-How's the performance?

I'm making the transition over to Apple.. I'm considering either the new 21.5" iMac or a refurbished 24". I'll be using this for photography and will need to use the built-in screen until I allocate funds for a better monitor like the NEC LCD2690WUXI2. 1 "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for.."
2 "Put display to sleep after..."
3 "Put Hard Disks to sleep when possible..."
I'm guessing that #1 won't spin down the Hard Disks unless #3 is checked? Is that right? I'm also guessing that if I'm downloading a file or securely deleting the trash my iMac won't go to sleep? The reason I ask is because it seems like if I'm deleting the trash and my display goes to sleep, when I come back to the computer i really don't see any progress. What options do you guys typically use? I keep my iMac on 24/7, but didn't know about the first sleep option.

I have seen a few videos about mastering and gave it a try myself. It can be done by clicking the master tab, then going to the Input 1-2 column setting and then clicking setting - mastering, etc.When I first did this a few weeks ago, there were many options such as hip hop mastering, electronic mastering, etc.Now, when I do so, I have different - much less enticing options and have no idea where the good ones went.

I just recently formatted the entire system and haven't even got "VMware" or either Windows installed so I don't know why it's there.
