Jun 25, 2014how I could connect my mini dv camcorder to my mac and transfer the video to the computer. My camcorder only came with cord for playback on TV and the power cord, but nothing for the computer, especially a Mac. The manual refers to a Dv cable (hURL....) and says "When using a DV cable, be sure to use the optional JVC VC-VDV206U or VC-VDV204U DV cable depending on the type of DV connector (4 or 6 pins) on the PC". Currently running Mavericks with Thunderbolt and a FireWire 800 port.

Dec 5, 2010I'm sitting here trying how to figure out how to transfer video off this camcorder I have to my computer so I can edit the footage. It's my friend's camera so I'm not familiar with it at all. It has a cassette tape in which the video was recorded onto. The camera also has a USB connector. So I figured my computer would simply recognize that the camera was connected and I could get footage from the camera to the computer that way but it didn't work. camera is a Panasonic PV-GS35, for reference.

Jul 21, 2009I have recently been asked to help set up a "TV studio" for a church. It is basically a project designed to turn the church pulpit into a working TV studio where weekly sermons can be streamed onto the web, or even played on local public access TV channels, for those tech savvy partitioners that can't make it to regular sermons. The budget for equipment is very generous, and the church has expressed a preference for using mac computers for everything from initial sound and video capture, production editing, and streaming to the web and/or local TV stations.
Equipment they already have is the typical stuff you might find in a modern church, eg. 4 mics on and around the pulpit, a fairly new sound board (not sure how many channels, but at least 10 or more), some old mini-dv camcorders, etc. I'm starting from scratch here. This is an equipment and software question, but I'm posting on the software forum because they have already decided on a mac computer. It is just a question of whether an iMac or a Mac Pro tower will be used.

Intel Mac :: Can't Capture Video From DV Camera Via Firewire?
May 31, 2012I'm tryin to transfer video from my Sony DV camera to my iMac, but neither iMovie not Adobe Premiere cannot recognise the device. They both automatically select my iSight camera as the one and only video source.Â
When I check the Firewire status in System Profiler I get the message: "Unable to list FireWire devices".Â
I have tired restarting the software, unplugging the camera, unplugging the firewire cable, restarting my Mac but still no result.Â
I spent a considerable amount of time Googling for solutions but have not come up with anything that helped. I have also tried unplugging all other USB devices, restarting the machine, trying again, but still the same issue.Â
The weird thing is that about a year ago I managed to capture video just fine from the camera into Premiere without any problems.Â
The only thing that is different now, is that I have Windoes XP installed on my Mac as well. Could this be an issue, with XP "stealing" my firewire connection in some manner? I'm not sure how this would be possible, but I suppose it could be...Â
My iMac is a 21.5" with an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz processor. 4GB DDR3 Ram and Mac OS X 10.6.8Â
iMovie is version 8.0.6 and Premiere is CS4. As I said, I had managed to capture video using the same equpiment about a year ago and the only difference now is that I also have a partition on my Mac with Windows XP (Service pack 3) on it.Â
Of course, the cable itself could be faulty, but since it hasn't been used in over a year, I doubt that's the issue. I still wanna try anything else, before I buy a new cable.Â

Dec 6, 2009I have an early 09 mini, and have a problem with skype. I have a new logitec c500 webcamera that works with my pc. The skype account works with my first gen black macbook, but on the newer mini I can see myself but the audio does not work. The cam connects to one of the usb ports and I've configured sounds to "unrecognized usb sound device" that came up after I plugged the camera in the mini, but on the "test calls" I still can't hear myself. The skype for mac is a beta, but others seem to do ok.

Jan 31, 2012I have an "early 2009" mini. I hooked it up to my HD TV through a Sony amp that acts as an HDMI switch. It works great until I switch to a different component (e.g. satellite receiver). When I switch back to the mini there is no video or audio. Screen sharing is also disabled: I can't access the mini from another Mac. Oddly, I can use the iphone Remote app to operate iTunes and send output through AirPlay. I could also access its shared files through the network. I've tried hdmireviver. It works for a while, but when the mini is not selected by the HDMI switch for more than 15 minutes or so, it fails. Do later models of the mini work more congenially with an HDMI switch?

May 26, 2010Importing videos from my camera into iMovie works fine and dandy until I hit a certain clip. From that clip on, all the movies I try to import have no audio. However, when I click "Show In Finder" on these clips that have no audio and play them in Quicktime, they have audio! So then I re-imported these videos into iMovie, and it worked! They had sound! Is this really what I'm going have to do every time I try to import my videos from my camera? Import, show in finder, RE-import?

Jul 1, 2008I have a Sony DCR-PC100 Camcorder that uses mini DV tape for recording, and am trying to get the video onto my mac. I have tried in iMovie '06,'08 and Final Cut Express, and I keep getting the same problem. I connect the camera via firewire, and set the camera to VTR. The app recognizes the camera (Final Cut even specifies the model number correctly) and can access it enough so that when you hit play it starts the camera playing. But it never gets video or audio coming into the computer, instead it just keeps the capture preview as black or blue. Eventually it just color wheels for a while and freezes or has to be shut down. I am using an iMac G5, but have tried it on an Intel MacBook Pro, and the same problem happens. I also tried it on a PC and it worked fine, so I dont think it is the camera, but I have a lot of video to upload, so I need to do it on my iMac. Does anyone know why this would be happening, and what some possible solutions would be?

I bought a Sony HDR-HC7 High Def camcorder and am now trying to download some of the video tapes I recorded on the old Sony camcorder. The video clips chop short and the I can't understand the audio. I'm using imovie 06 and a PowerPC G4 loaded. I think I may need to buy a camera like I had and play the tapes back on it. What do you think? I'm pretty sure I have the setting on the camera and computer set properly.

Apr 20, 2009so I recently bought a Canon HD Camcorder 1080p with 32GB SD Card. After I am done shooting videos I have two programs to choose from: Final Cut Pro 2 and iMovie '09. It seems that Final Cut Pro does not import from Camcorders, so I have been using iMovie.
Once I start importing, it asks me if I want the movie in full 1920x1080 HD. I selected yes. Once I am done importing into iMovie, I want to export it to .mp4 in High Def but the only options iMovie gives me to export is iDVD, iTunes, YouTube and Mobile Me Gallery and none of those formats are in High Def.
How can I export my videos to .mp4 in full 1920x1080 format?

Am currently considering to buy a camcorder with a firewire port but haven't decided between Mini-DV based or HD. My main consideration is the image quality and cost effiency.
