Mac Mini :: Unable To Create A Computer-to-pc Network
Jun 21, 2012
I have an older Mac Mini (Mid 2007, Core 2 Duo) running Lion. I am trying to create a computer-to-computer network, but I keep getting the message "Connection Failed".Futhermore, in the window "Create computer-to-computer network" the pull-down for "Channel" is blank. I have successfully done this on other Macs. Is there some hardware limitation on this old of a Mac mini that won't allow this to be done I can't find anything stating this anywhere.

When trying to create a new user in Server Application I've come across this message: "existing connection is not authenticated: password change denied".
1. Quit Server.app. Â
2. On the Open Directory Server, execute these Terminal commands:Â Â Â Â Â
sudo touch /var/db/openldap/migration/.rekerberize     sudo killall PasswordService Â
3. Open Server.app. but the message I'm given in the terminal is No such file or directory.
Why I don't have the folder structure needed for this?

After my macbook hard drive kindly failed on me, I ordered a new Seagate Momentus 5400.5, 320gb hard drive. I popped that sucker in this afternoon and began to start up my macbook with the OS X disc 1. Everything was going smoothly, except that it can't find the hard drive. It is recognized under my disk utility, but when I click to partition it, select options, select GUID, click 'OK', I can neither Name it 'Macintosh HD' or do anything else.
I can't proceed with anything because when it asks me to select a HD, the HD does not show up. Again, everything works except that the hard drive is not found. I pulled the hard drive out. Made sure the screws were alright. Made sure everything was all snuggly, and yet it still won't work.

I have a brand new MBP. I have a 1tb external drive with 250gb's of music. I have it attached to my mac via USB. I CANNOT GET ITUNES TO CREATE A NEW LIBRARY ON THE EXTERNAL DRIVE. I CANNOT DRAG AND DROP OR ADD FILE/FOLDER.
But get this, I hook it up to my old Dell and I can do whatever I want. I am friggin pissed that I spent all this money on Mac equip and can't get it going. You may have seen my other post where I posed my issue of: 1tb ethernet drive hooked to airport extreme. Above mentioned 1tb hooked up to back of it via usb. I am completely unable to copy, move, or add files using my mac. But guess what. my pc handles it easily and quickly.

When we share internet connection through ad-hoc wireless network, each individual connecting to our network will be assigned with an unique IP Address and other required fields will be filled with proper data(Gateway and ..).
I used this feature to access my iPad through wifi, and had no intention of sharing an internet connection.
Now that I don't have an internet connection to share, my computer doesn't give any IP to my device, therefore my computer is unable to see my iPad on the network.
I also tried "Create network" feature of mac, but again, since IP addresses have been assigned by self, I'm not able to see my iPad on the network.

My neighbor has an IMac with OS 10.4.11 installed. When I open System Preferences and select the Network icon, the Network window comes up but it is overlayed with a message that states: "Your network settings have been changed by another application." When I click OK, this same overlaid window comes back.
The only way I can get out of System Preferences at this point is to do a Force Quit. In other words, because this overlaid window appears, I am unable to access the Network window to look at TCP/IP settings, make changes, etc.
Next I went into System/Library/Preference Panes/Network.prefPane(more info) to look at the application that appeared in the "Open with" field. It stated "System Preference." I replaced this with a new "System Preferences from the Applications Folder, but the same thing happened - even after I rebooted the computer.
Please let me know how to solve this problem so I can access the Network System Preferences properly.
Thank you.

I have a home network running 3 PC's(with XP) and 2 Macs (with Tiger OS X 10.4.8). Mysteriously one of my Macs(MacMini) refuses to show a Network icon in the Finder sidebar? I have used the Go > Network menu to try to get a Network icon, but this does work. Yesterday I did a scheduled Mac OS system update, and it seems that since then I have not been able to see/get a Network icon in my Finder.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? PS - I am able to use the old 'GO > Connect to Computer' method, then type in the smb://myOfficePc, and access shared files on other PCs on the network. So networking is configured properly on this MacMini.

I have Alltel Mobile Broadband. Up until the other day, it's been working fine. I'd set up a network on my macbook after connecting to the Alltel network, then I'd enable internet sharing. Then my iPod Touch, iPad, etc would all be able to go online.
The past couple days, however, the connection just won't share.Anyone have any idea what could be doing this and how to fix it?

I've got another thing I wish to figure out. I wish to have my iMac and my mate's Asus eeePC netbook to both connect with one another in a network.
The whole main reason I wish is to share my iTunes music library. So he gets to be able to play the music.
Could I get a few links how to set it up for sharing folders, and for sharing music through iTunes.

I have a friend that has an iMac (I have a Mac Pro so no Airport) and I couldn't get it to create a wireless network (he just got an iPad). When I turn Airpot on it see other wireless networks and will even join them so it's working. However when I try to create one it just says something like "Unable to create Wireless Network" and gives no reason or code as to why. I've tried with/without Password and auto/manual on different channels with the same (non) results. He has just passed phone support time and don't want to spend $49.95 for phone support (you can buy a wireless accesses point cheaper). Being a 24" it's a lot of trouble to lug to the Apple store also.

i'm using a MacBook Pro and Ableton Live 8, for those familiar... I have to create an ad-hoc network to get some apps like Liine apps working with my other Apple devices. Liine has some very clear and simple videos, as some i saw on Youtube. The thing is, for some reason, i don't have the AirPort option in my settings. I downloaded AirPort Utility 6.0, but it doesn't find a network or i don't know what.

I accidentally set up a computer to computer network and I cannot figure out how to make it go away. I also tried to password protect it, to at least lock it down, but the password is removed from the network as soon as someone logs on (and doesn't require a password to do so). Something is fishy, to say to least. I was told to go into my preferences (through Library) but I don't know what to make of the omnioutliner files. How do I get rid of this network?

I have a MAC OS X 10.4.4 that is joined to a Windows2003 Active Directory, which has a logon script that automatically maps a network according to the user, at least this works for Windows PC. Can anyone give me some suggestions as to how to do this for a MAC? I know how to manually create a drive mapping, but I just don't know how to have it automatically create for each user that logs in to have their own user directory automatically mapped.

Quick question for the AEBS pros out there.
I have a large multi-dwelling building that I have two 50 meg connections to. I have purchased two AEBS's (one for each side of the house) and I'm considering adding a third one for the upstairs. Currently, I just have them both creating a network for each of my 50 meg connections.
Would it be better for me to "expand" the network instead and just have one large network? Would it utilize the bandwidth of both of my connections or just continue to split up the one that I have it connected to that is "Creating" the network.
Also - any creative ways to mount the AEBS? Would it be too hot to put them in the attic?
Last question - has anyone found a way to somewhat regulate the bandwidth distribution? I will have about 45 people splitting the total bandwidth and I want to be sure that it can service everyone without certain people hogging it.

I have an Early 2009 Mac Mini with Mini DVI and Mini DisplayPort. And I have two 1080p HDTVs. The Mac Mini is capable of dual display, and I've gotten it to work before, so the issue is not the TV or Mac. And I have tried both Mirroring and No Mirroring.
I got a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (#5311) and a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter (#4852) both from MonoPrice. And for some reason I can't get the Mac Mini to dual display, it's only one or the other.
Before I had a Mini Displayport Male and USB Male AUDIO to HDMI Female Converting Adapter (#5969) and I got video on both HDTVs, but not audio at the same time b/c one was USB and one was TOSLINK.
I'm not sure why I can't get video on both monitors. Any help?

I begin uni next month and have been offered accommodation. My room won't have WiFi but will have a wired connection. I'm wondering, is it possible to - rather than connect my MacBook - connect the Time Capsule to this connection and create a wireless network? Also, is it simple to switch from one connection (my current WiFi at home) to another (the uni connection)? Finally, is it easy to switch from being connected via Ethernet to using WiFi (after initial backup for example)? The lack of WiFi would really be rubbish when I have an iPhone and Time Capsule.

Using Boot Camp Assistant to create a Microsoft partition on my MacMini. It requires a MS-DOS formated disk to download Apple/Microsoft files. I am using a 'remote disk' from a networked PC (works for everything else). Disk Utility does not recognise the remote disk unless it is formated, and the only formate available on the PC is UDF. With the DVD-RW disk formated in UDF, Boot Camp recognises the disk, but Disk Utility will not format it.Â

I have a unibody MacBook late-2009, latest update of SL 10.6.4.
I am attempting to use a computer-to-computer network from my MacBook to my iPod Touch 3G to use an application called TouchOSC which controls Ableton Live on my Mac.
I can Create Network just fine. It sets up the network inbetween my Mac and iPod perfectly. But once I disconnect from the created computer-to-computer network, that network disappears like it was never created. To use computer-to-computer again I have to re-create the network all over.
All of my other networks are stored just fine and I have no other problems with my house Wi-Fi or any others. I have reset my Network Preferences by deleting the SystemConfigurations files and still nothing doing about the computer-to-computer problem.
I am not sure if this is desired behavior, and if it is, is there any way I can save the network I created for later use? Setting it up every time is painful, I want to use it nearly everyday for music.

I have the current generation $599 Mac Mini, with Nvidia graphics (just to clarify the model).
My wireless network is setup from an Airport Express.
My iMac, Powerbook, iPhones, Apple TV, Wii, etc. can all stay connected without problem.
However, my Mac Mini loses the connection constantly. It shows full signal, but then it drops out 100 percent for a few minutes, nonstop all day. It makes it completely useless effectively.
What kind of settings and things could I try to change?
Or, is this likely a hardware issue?

I've encountered the situation a few times while traveling where you have cable connection but no WiFi. Since I now travel only with iPhone and iPad (no laptop), can I just connect an old AirPort Express A1084 to the router and expect WiFi? If so does the now unused AirPort Express kept the configuration of my home network e.g. name and password?

I have a Time Capsule providing a wireless network in my home. I would like use my Airport Express to create an additional network, and have it get its internet from one of the wired ethernet ports on the TC. Can you daisy chain them like that? I tried it and so far I haven't been able to get it to work.
Hopefully that makes sense. I'm not trying to set up a WDS with the TC and the Express, I'm trying to plug the Express into one of the ethernet connections on the TC so the Express can share that internet connection as a new, separate network (like what you would do if you had the Express in a hotel room, etc).
I have the Express set up to create a network, and my computer can connect to it, but the internet's not available for some reason. Should I expect this to be able to work?
