Feb 6, 2009My sons are addicted to casual online games, Extreme Blast Billiards, etc. I would have hoped they could monitor themselves but they can't. They waste a lot of time on these. Is there a way to temporarily disable Flash on Safari and Firefox, perhaps with an easily reversible script? I know there is a Firefox extension to do this, but they simply disable the extension.

Feb 1, 2012I have a Mac mini (intel) which was running happily running a fully updated leopard os, then for no aparent reason the airport would not turn on rendering wifi conections impossible. after hours of hunting for help and finding none i bought snow leopard and did a full install in the hope of retifying the problem. unfortunate the problem is still there, sometimes it says airport card not installed sometimes its there, but whatever it says nothing happens when i try to turn it on i press the turn on button but nothing happens. for fear of the card itsself being faulty i bought a usb wifi dongle, istalled it as per the instructions yet still i cannot get wirelessly on the internet?

Feb 10, 2009I have a problem with my mini/quicktime setup and i was hoping for some help from you all at macrumors...
Here is the setup
This system is setup for a admissions office in which we have a mac mini set up to a LCD screen that is all mounted on a wall.
we have the mini on timer to come on from 1230-5pm and when the mini comes on, quicktime is set to automatically open and play the admissions video.
Now here is the problem:
when I turn on the LCD every day, the screen is blank but Ican still hear the video, I figured it was in hibernation so i move the mouse and hit the keyboard and nothing. i need to push the power button and hold it for a couple seconds then the movie comes on but the video is choppy.
here are the specs on the mini: 1.25 power pc G4, 512 Ram.
its old but its only function is to play this video...

How do you turn on sound output to both HDMI and headphone jack. If the headphone jack is plugged in, it always defaults to that device. Jul 1, 2010I do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?

Jan 9, 2011 One of the drives in our 2009 mac mini server 2009 has died. I have taken apart many minis so have no problem taking it apart to replace, but does anyone know which drive is the primary, "Server HD" drive? Would it be the top drive (first drive you come across during disassembly) or the bottom drive closer to the logic board with the two pads stuck on? Just wondering if anyone knows for sure so I can avoid removing the drive that's still working fine.
Also, to keep the server running in the mean time, I am booting to the second drive which is working fine. Just curious, once the dead primary drive is replaced , can I simply use carbon copy clone to copy back from the 2nd drive, or will I need to install snow leopard server back onto the new drive?

Dec 11, 2010Just got my new 2.8 with 5870. From the start it gave me some trouble getting it to turn on. I kept trying different plugs and such throughout the house and randomly I got it on. It was working good but I noticed that waking it from sleep the machine will click and the sleep light goes out and a red led behind the grill comes on briefly. I try pushing the power button to hear another click and the red led flashes. These problems seem intermittent and sometimes it will sleep fine. Im using 2 acer monitors connected via 2 vga-mini display adaptors.

Aug 24, 2010I installed a Kingston SSD drive in my 2010 mac mini. If I put the OSX install DVD (grey disc 1), the SSD is not visible in either the installer or disk utility.
The SSD is a Kingston 64 GB SATA 2.5-inch SSDNow V Series Solid State Drive. Cheap drive.
The funny thing is that before i started all this I restored a SuperDuper image of 10.6.4 from my old mini to the SSD using a usb to SATA adapter. Installed and it worked! The SSD booted OS X but the ethernet jack was not working.
Does anyone know of a workaround for installing OSX onto a drive that is not being recognized in disk utility?
I'd like to find a way to reinstall OSX using the grey DVD without having to remove the SSD drive.

Jun 10, 2009Now that I have a New Mac Mini, What is the best internal hard disk to upgrade it with. I'm thinking dependability first and one that's quiet. Now that the Seagate 500gb 7200rpm drive is at v.4 it seems the way to go, just want to make sure. The Hitachi TravelStar 7K320 320gb is a cheaper option if its just as good or better for dependability and silent/cool operation. And on reading some reviews of the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb 5400 it seems a very good drive too and maybe just as fast as the higher priced and faster spinning Seagate.

OS X :: U3 On USB Flash Drive -- How To Fix It
Dec 6, 2009Here's a strange one. Got a new flash drive. My first step, always, is to use disk utility to erase and reformat the flash drive into FAT32, single partition.
But when I plug in my latest flash drive into my Macs, I see the U3 Install Disc icon on my desktop.
What gives? How can U3 still be on it after a reformat? More importantly, how do I get rid of it?
