I have a Mac Mini from 2009. And it stands in my bedroom and is almost always on. So the led light is a bit annoying in front of the Mac Mini. Is there a way to turn this off when it's on?
View 9 RepliesJust kinda notice there's a red light visible through the front mesh, on opening the side door, the light seems to be coming from one of the four LED's on the lower memory riser. On closer inspection, the label says DIMM 2.
I've tried swapping, moved some ram about.. and the light still appears (on the same riser). Does this mean that riser has developed a fault?
Does anybody notice that it brightens then dims?

1) I havent used my mac pro for a couple of weeks
2) I switch it on 5 mins ago and it boots fine, I log in and launch safari from the dock.
3) Computer freezes, mouse doesn't move, complete unresponsive.
4) I push power button for a few seconds to force a shut down.
5) I power up.
6) boots fine, after surfing the web for a few mins, MP just reboots, no warning, screen just goes black and the fans and chime kick in.
7) doesn't get to log in screen, instead it reboots itself, fans and chimes kick in
8) doesn't like it, computer shuts down, front panel light blinking at 1/2 second intervals.

on my Intel MacMini. Won't turn on with the remote or the Esc+Cmd shortcut. The remote works (I've tried it on my wife's MacBook), I've restarted and repaired permissions. Any other ideas, anyone? Or do I just have to wait for Leopard for a clean start?

However, I keep accidentally pressing Apple-Esc at which point my computer freezes for a few seconds and then starts up in Front Row. It's a PAIN. Does anyone know how I can turn it off or change the shortcut to something more difficult to press accidentally?

Installing: Put Front Row 1.3 package on desktop. (don't open) Open Enabler and Install Front Row. Enable Front Row (if you get an error you probably already have it enabled). <Restart> Use Pacifist to open FrontRow 1.3.1 package. Find Front Row App (System>Library>Core Services) Install the app and Replace when prompted.

I have a mac mini c2d 2ghz, ive had it for a few years now and its always behaved, its always on and is an excellent computer for what i need, its now running snow leopard. What i would like to do is turn it into a dedicated media centre as im looking at either a new mini or if i can stretch the wallet, an*i3 imac. Is there anyway i can boot directly into front row on my mini, without having to boot to the desktop, then to front row, i know its not so much bother to do the latter, just believe it would look better booting to front row or any other dedicated media centre software, All movies, pics and music will be stored on the minis hard drive or aliased to an external drive. I have searched in the forums and also with google, but cant find anything about the automatic booting into the media centre.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe on light at the front of the base (right edge) went out. I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch. The apple on the cover side of the monitor still comes on. Oddly enough, this happened right after I installed a trial of Photoshop version 13.0.0 Beta. Should I just have the light replaced or could this be a signal of other problems? I don't have a lot of new stuff installed since I'm coming from a pre intel mac desktop.

After resetting my Mac mini with the PMU reset it
- runs its fan on full speed
- the front (power) LED does not show anything
- SMC fan control shows "0�C" / "000rpm"
Any way how to fix that? I did a PRAM and PMU reset again, but no go.

I bought a new mpb , i7. a few weeks ago it turned off and it wouldnt turn back on when i connected it to the power source , the sleep light however kept flashing, and it madethis sound like if it was trying to boot. anyway,i left it charging for a bit and it started working on its own.
however, lately its been shutting down when it runs out of battery instead of hibernating (which is really frustrating). and just now its doing the flashing thing again, cept for a much longer time.. any idea how to resolve this/what might be wrong with it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm only posting this to continue my procrastination of starting homework which is due tomorrow. Ok, so recently I've been asking on these forums how to access my Macbook using my iPod Touch. Being able to fully access my Macbook when I'm 20 miles away at my University is a huge benefit when I realize I forgot an important essay or homework. I discovered I just have to open up port 5900, etc etc, to get into my Macbook from anywhere. It was too much trouble and now I just use [URL] which works as well, though don't think as fast. Well, this works wonders since I've already emailed myself 2 important Keynotes i've create and accessed them from my college and presented them without even having my computer on me.
Well, recently when I get home at night some times it smells strongly of marijuana. Odd since I don't smoke it but my cousin does. He has access to my place and I say he can head over, even if i'm not home and chill, but under any circumstances no smoking. Well, I wanted to use the iSight cam w/ Photo Booth while I'm at the college to see if he indeed was getting high in my living room but before I tested it, I need to get rid of the green light on my Macbook: Getting Rid of The Green Light. Ok, so we're not really turning off the green light here. I looked for hours on how to do this and instead ran into a lot of advice, especially on MacRumors forums, to just white out or tape a small white square over the dot when the green light comes through.
Don't attempt the white out. It'll just go through. As for the white small square...it's completely obvious so don't try that either. Instead, do this:
1. Get a thin card, like a debit card and gently remove the white frame from your macbook. Attached to the back of the frame will be a bunch of these little gray rectangles that hold that frame to the outer part of the macbook. You'll have to take these off gently from the frame and pop them back onto their corresponding places within the Macbook. Easy enough.
2. Then what you do it get a sheet of white paper, cut a super small piece and fold it many times over. Not too thick or the frame won't click back in that area normally.
3. Place it snuggly where the green light turns on and even suggest getting a piece of tape just as small to hold it in place.
4. Turn on Photo booth just to test out if the light goes through. It may but really test it by placing the frame over it, and then seeing if the light goes through.
5. If it doesn't great. Place the frame back on and you're set!
l tried to turn on my macbook pro this morning, but it doesn't turn on. When l press power, the fan and sleep light come on. but after about one second, it shuts down. The chime and screen dont come on.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI own a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz and my problem happend like this:Last night I stopped playing SC2 and closed my MBP, then this morning I noticed that while it was closed, it had not gone to sleep mode, or at least that's what I thought, because it was too hot and the fans spinning hard. I openned it and showed no video, but remained on. After a 5-sec power button restart, it flashed the sleep indicator once and did nothing else, except for the HD spinned for a sec.I took the battery off and gave the computer time to cool off, because I sensed it way too hot.After I reinstalled the battery, I was able to turn it on the normal way, it worked just fine, but later I closed it again and when I openned it, it showed no video again.I repeated the process of letting it cool down, but with no effect this time.The sleep indicator turns on once and it does nothing.I tried swapping the memories, resetting the SMC, tried booting pressing control + command + r + p, tried booting without the battery, tried booting without the magsafe, nothing has worked.Now what happens when I press the power button is I hear the HD try to spin for half a second and the sleep indicator turn on once.
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy Macbook (I believe a 2008 model wouldn't wake up from it's sleep like it does every time I open it (I usually set it to sleep rather than shut it down). I turned it off manually, but when I attempted reboot it does either one of two things:
a) When I simply press the power on button, the screen stays black and the sleep light fades on once, but then fades off and all mechanical sounds abruptly stop.
b) When I press and hold the power button, the sleep light fades on, but then flashes about 10 times rapidly before fading in and once again abruptly turning off.
I have tried this with the charger plugged in several different outlets, not plugged into the Macbook, waiting, removing and putting back the battery. A Google search said it might have something to do with the RAM and pushing it back in, but I have no idea how to do that.
I did not use any program that would activate the camera, but the green light does not turn off. I tried restarted the computer and it is still on. I tried opening Photo Booth, and it said the camera is already in use by another application, but no other application is open.
