I understand how to turn Voiceover on and off, but I am pretty sure that I accidentally somehow set a keyboard shortcut for it to Shift + 8, which is my asterisk key, which is obviously not good because I need that asterisk key a lot for typing. The only thing is I can't remember where or how I changed that keyboard shortcut at all. My asterisk key doesn't work at all when I press it.

is there anyway to switch it off, as its doing my box in and closing down some of my applications.
I've tried looking in the voice over utility but can see an off button
I have had my IMac for a little over a year. Recently a bold black box is outlining what ever item, page, search box, etc... I am working on. The controls do not seem to be as responsive, my F10, F11, F12 are not working correctly and I have tried repair disk but it does not show anything.
View 3 Replies View Relatedive looked in voiceover, in the systems prefs, i looked in the voiceover utilities and i looked in the messenger prefs. i turned off every alert thing in msn, and i still get it, so i turned them all back on, and i have fiddled with stuff in the voice over, still no anvil, so i need some way of getting rid of this, WITHOUT reinstalling the whole OS, oh yea, i also uninstalled msn, with all the bit and pieces hidden among the system files, and installed the latest version, still there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dumb question. I want to change the accent the Voiceover person uses, and have no clue how, or if it is even possible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I begin broadcasting in Nicecast, it works perfectly streaming iTunes and everything, but when I turn the Voiceover effect on it just doesn't work.
My mic is compatible with the program as it streams fine with the Microphone setting and I've tried several microphones with the Voiceover effect, the effect just doesn't work. Any patches for this or something?
I'm running my Mac mini to this [URL]to my LCD TV.
Unless the Mac Mini is turned on or I have unplugged the HDMI cable the Mini I can't turn my TV on... Does anyone know a fix for this?
I have heard or read somewhere on this forum that you can use Disk Utility to Duplicate your internal hard drive to another drive, how can you do this.
I have the stock 320GB 5400 RPM drive and I want to put in my 320GB 7200RPM with 16MB Cache, but I would rather not load and reload all the software, so how can I move the data from Stock to the new drive.
I already partitioned using GUID and erased the new 320GB drive in an external enclosure which is where the drive is sitting now connected via USB to my MINI.
my HD fried so I just installed a new 250GB HD about 20mins ago. It's not showing up on the disk utility. It shows one for 4.8GB but not the 250GB? bad connection? I'll try to reconnect it again. It's a Seagate, same brand as I took out of my 1.66 intel Mac mini.

I have a problem with my mini/quicktime setup and i was hoping for some help from you all at macrumors...
Here is the setup
This system is setup for a admissions office in which we have a mac mini set up to a LCD screen that is all mounted on a wall.
we have the mini on timer to come on from 1230-5pm and when the mini comes on, quicktime is set to automatically open and play the admissions video.
Now here is the problem:
when I turn on the LCD every day, the screen is blank but Ican still hear the video, I figured it was in hibernation so i move the mouse and hit the keyboard and nothing. i need to push the power button and hold it for a couple seconds then the movie comes on but the video is choppy.
here are the specs on the mini: 1.25 power pc G4, 512 Ram.
its old but its only function is to play this video...
I have a Mac Mini from 2009. And it stands in my bedroom and is almost always on. So the led light is a bit annoying in front of the Mac Mini. Is there a way to turn this off when it's on?

I just plugged in a 2nd LCD monitor via the thunderbolt connection and used a mini display adapter. I was just wondering how I can turn it off without unplugging it. I googled and came across an app called 'switchX' but I'd rather not install another app.

I am setting up a mac mini for a friend who is an elderly and I need an easier way to turn on a mac mini instead of having him reach down in the bottom and extend his arm all the way into the back of the mini. Is there a remote control somewhere that can be programmed?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have multiple displays connected via the HDMI port and one to the mini port as well and a theater sound system attached to the headphone jack. How do you turn on sound output to both HDMI and headphone jack. If the headphone jack is plugged in, it always defaults to that device. I am unable to hear the audio at the remote displays without removing the headphone jack.

I have my 09 mini connected to a Dell E177FP and I have the energy preferences set to turn the display off after 15 minutes. The problem is that the display never turns off. It just sits at the "check signal" screen as if it was not plugged into anything. How can I get the monitor to go into standby mode?
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust got my new 2.8 with 5870. From the start it gave me some trouble getting it to turn on. I kept trying different plugs and such throughout the house and randomly I got it on. It was working good but I noticed that waking it from sleep the machine will click and the sleep light goes out and a red led behind the grill comes on briefly. I try pushing the power button to hear another click and the red led flashes. These problems seem intermittent and sometimes it will sleep fine. Im using 2 acer monitors connected via 2 vga-mini display adaptors.

Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.
This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).
Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.
I have a problem with my 17'' MBP unibody:
1) Bluetooth is ON:
I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.
Back to 1)
What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.
I was playing around with my mac g4 logic board... ( yes, i know... ) anyways, i press the power, the light turns on, and the fan spinns up then everything just turns off... http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95035

I have an Early 2009 Mac Mini with Mini DVI and Mini DisplayPort. And I have two 1080p HDTVs. The Mac Mini is capable of dual display, and I've gotten it to work before, so the issue is not the TV or Mac. And I have tried both Mirroring and No Mirroring.
I got a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (#5311) and a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter (#4852) both from MonoPrice. And for some reason I can't get the Mac Mini to dual display, it's only one or the other.
Before I had a Mini Displayport Male and USB Male AUDIO to HDMI Female Converting Adapter (#5969) and I got video on both HDTVs, but not audio at the same time b/c one was USB and one was TOSLINK.
I'm not sure why I can't get video on both monitors. Any help?
I need to connect my 09' Mac Mini to my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver which outputs to my Sony XBR HDTV. I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Just curious can use both to drive the 24" LED ACD AND another 2nd monitor via mini dvi?? That would be a dream come true!
View 13 Replies View RelatedThe old Mini worked fine with my Westinghouse 24" LCD monitor (HDMI input -connected to Mini via DVI->HDMI cable). The new Mini Server 2010 has HDMI out, so I used a straight-through HDMI cable. The display looks terrible! All of the fonts appear to have a 'shadow' next to them - almost like an old analog VGA with 'interference'.Thinking it could be the cable, I went back to my old Mini's DVI->HDMI cable (and used the new Mini's HDMI->DVI adapter to connect to it). Same results. The Westinghouse monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200. The Mac says that it's configured for 1920x1200.
