Mac Mini :: Mini Drive Two HDMI TV's Simultaneously?

Aug 10, 2009

I'm considering using my new Mini to drive two 42" HDTVs for a display in a mall... same signal would be sent to each TV, perhaps by using a "Y" adaptor?

Can the Mini do this? And if so, what's the best way to get the signal from the Mini to the two TV's? (They have HDMI inputs.)

I'm looking to connect the Mini to my HDMI TV. I've heard of getting an adapter but im not sure which one to get. I've also heard of no audio output in these adapters too. I have a late 2009 Mini but the miniDVI port is being used so the miniDisplayPort is available. Can anyone post a link to a adapter that will work and is under $20.

Mac Mini :: Back Of The Mini Has An HDMI Port?

Feb 26, 2012

I have just purchased a new Mac Mini (MC816B/A), it is to replace an old PC.  The PC is running two monitors through a dual display graphics card, and in the short term I'd like to use these until I can afford Apple displays.

The back of the Mini has an HDMI port, Firewire and a Thunderbolt port.  How can I use my two regular displays (they are TFT and have VGA and DVI connections)?  There are also 4 x USB ports as well.

Mac Mini :: Creating Usb Restore Disc / Load Mini SL Client On Server Via Usb Drive?

Jul 1, 2010

I do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?

Mac Mini :: Mac Mini Server 2009 Main Drive Replacement

Jan 9, 2011

One of the drives in our 2009 mac mini server 2009 has died. I have taken apart many minis so have no problem taking it apart to replace, but does anyone know which drive is the primary, "Server HD" drive? Would it be the top drive (first drive you come across during disassembly) or the bottom drive closer to the logic board with the two pads stuck on? Just wondering if anyone knows for sure so I can avoid removing the drive that's still working fine.

Also, to keep the server running in the mean time, I am booting to the second drive which is working fine. Just curious, once the dead primary drive is replaced , can I simply use carbon copy clone to copy back from the 2nd drive, or will I need to install snow leopard server back onto the new drive?

Mac Mini :: Installed A Kingston SSD Drive In My 2010 Mac Mini?

Aug 24, 2010

I installed a Kingston SSD drive in my 2010 mac mini. If I put the OSX install DVD (grey disc 1), the SSD is not visible in either the installer or disk utility.

The SSD is a Kingston 64 GB SATA 2.5-inch SSDNow V Series Solid State Drive. Cheap drive.

The funny thing is that before i started all this I restored a SuperDuper image of 10.6.4 from my old mini to the SSD using a usb to SATA adapter. Installed and it worked! The SSD booted OS X but the ethernet jack was not working.

Does anyone know of a workaround for installing OSX onto a drive that is not being recognized in disk utility?

I'd like to find a way to reinstall OSX using the grey DVD without having to remove the SSD drive.

Mac Mini :: Best Internal Drive For New 2009 Mac Mini

Jun 10, 2009

Now that I have a New Mac Mini, What is the best internal hard disk to upgrade it with. I'm thinking dependability first and one that's quiet. Now that the Seagate 500gb 7200rpm drive is at v.4 it seems the way to go, just want to make sure. The Hitachi TravelStar 7K320 320gb is a cheaper option if its just as good or better for dependability and silent/cool operation. And on reading some reviews of the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb 5400 it seems a very good drive too and maybe just as fast as the higher priced and faster spinning Seagate.

Mac Mini :: Why Using HDMI-DVI Adapter Instead Of MDP-DVI

Jun 17, 2010

I'm surprised that the Mac Mini comes with an HDMI-DVI adapter and not a MiniDisplayPort-DVI adapter. The latter would allow you to use monitors that support all resolutions the Mini can produce, whereas the former is limited to 1920-by-1200. Even if you use a monitor within the bounds of 1920-by-1200 resolution, you would need to get a MDP-DVI adapter to use a TV at the same time.

The ONLY logical reason that exists for Apple to do this is that they will make more money this way.

More people will have to buy the MDP-DVI adapter than the other way around. If people merely want to use a TV, they will have to buy an HDMI cable AND a MDP-DVI adapter, leaving the current adapter sitting in a drawer, whereas if Apple had supplied a MDP-DVI adapter, the person would probably just buy an HDMI cable, and probably not from Apple.

Mac Mini :: How To Get 5.1 Surround Via HDMI

Jul 6, 2010

I am a total OSX noob but I was able to search and find that I should go under Applications > Utilities > Audio Midi Setup to configure the output. I set it up for 5.1 surround and tested each of the speakers and they work.

However, if I try to play a DVD movie either directly off the disc or an MKV that I've encoded I always only get sound from my front speakers. I've tried a bunch of different DVDs and MKV files and a bunch of different programs including the built in DVD player, Front Row, Plex, and VLC Player.

I should mention that I am running the HDMI from my Mac Mini directly to my receiver. And like I said, when I tested the speakers under Audio Midi Setup they were working properly. I've even checked the options for the various programs and made adjustments when possible. Still no luck....

Can anyone with the new mini and a similar setup that has had success give me some tips or point me in the right direction?

Just hooked up my new Mac Mini to my Pre/Pro through HDMI.  when I play music files (2 channel - 48khz) through the HDMI the sound is being delivered at 7.1 channel-96khz.  I have tried everything and yet still the same.  AppleTV plays same files streamed as 48khz/2 channel.

Is there something I have to set inside the Mac Mini to prohibit this from happening?

Mac Mini :: HDMI Is Not Working

Jul 1, 2012

As I attempted to shut down my Mac mini, it asked me if I wanted to update before shutting down. I said yes. The computer installed the updates and shut down just fine. I unplugged the computer and took it to my new house. The next morning I started it up, and it seemed to start up fine- the light came on and it made the start up sound. But now it won't display anything through the HDMI port. The tv says 'no signal.' I plugged in my Apple Tv and it works fine. So, the tv and HDMI cable are doing fine and the computer seems to be fine except for the HDMI output. I do not have a computer monitor so I cannot do anything with the computer at the moment.

OS X :: Get Mini Display Port To DVI Then DVI To HDMI?

Oct 19, 2009

i just bought a mini display port to hdmi adapter, an HDMI to HDMI cable, and an audio cable for my 2008 unibody macbook (Snow Leopard). I've been trying to use my 26" 720p Sanyo [URL] as a monitor to display my computer so I can watch things that I have on my computer. When I plug it into HDMI one like I'm suppose to, it doesn't work- but you see static and it flickers sometimes. Was I only suppose to get mini display port to DVI then DVI to HDMI?

Notes: If i plug it into the second HDMI adaptor( doesn't say DVI) and set it to 720p then i get a fuzzy picture that is displayed correctly (You can see the entire status bar)

Mac :: HDMI Out On Lastest Mac Mini Update?

Jun 16, 2010

http://www.apple.com/macmini/In all the mayhem over the iPhone 4, Apple quietly updated the Mac Mini with a Aluminum case, along with some spec bumps, and some output jacks. The feature that caught my attention is the HDMI out port Apple added. This is the first time an HDMI port, in or out has been on a mac as far as I know. This gives me hope that we just might start to see HDMI ins and outs on some of the upcoming macs.Which brings me to my point, I am patiently waiting for the next iMac update, which I am hoping has an HDMI in. I am a college student and enjoy gaming on my spare time, own an xBox 360, but lack an HDTV. I hope to kill two purchases with one buy, spending my very hard earned cash on a powerful computer (Enough power for Max Settings in the upcoming Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 PC Games) and an HDTV for my xBox 360.

Mac Mini :: HDMI Through Denon Receiver?

Jul 1, 2012

I have a Mac Mini Server running as a Home Theatre PC (HTPC) and it's been working great for the last couple of years...(Mac Mini has HDMI output).  I recently upgraded my receiver to one that has HDMI switching (Denon AVR-3312CI).  I took advantage of this and plugged in my Mac to my receiver and I'm having some problems. I am running a few "Media" type applications (EyeTV and Plex) - some of which (EyeTV specifically) can launch when no one is watching the TV (i.e. to function as a "TiVO" type device.  When (let's say) EyeTV launches in the background and the TV and the Receiver are OFF, the Mac believes that it has no monitor attached...which is (I believe) a critical detail...

What ends up happening is when I "connect" the monitor (by turning on the receiver) the screen resolution "sets" (or more specifically the refresh rate) and the video I am attempting to watch is really jumpy until I quit and re-launch the offending application (again - let's assume EyeTV)...which is then silky smooth... The way I came to this conclusion is by VNC'ing into the Mini while everything is off and looking at the display settings and the resolution is there, but there is no refresh rate available...  I've also noticed that if EyeTV isn't open when I turn everything on and then launch EyeTV, it comes up smooth...

is it possible to "fake" an attached monitor - or to retain the settings when it appears to the computer that the monitor has been disconnected...??  I've come up with a workaround for the time being - to delay EyeTV launching until everything is up...but when primetime TV comes back on, I'll be in trouble...
