Mac Mini :: QuickTime Won't Find Updates After 7.2.1
Apr 8, 2012
I am just updated to Mac OS X 10.5.8 so that I could use itunes. But now I get a message that says that to Open the latest version of itunes (that I just downloaded), I need I need Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. I've tried "updating existing software" in the Quicktime menu, but no updates are found. I've also been to the quicktime download page on apple.com and tried that, but no dice.

When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.

So after upgrading to Leopard I'm having a problem with the most unexpected thing... Software Update.
Right after the install I updated to 10.5.1, updated QuickTime, RDC and iTunes.
Now, however, every time I run Software update I quickly get the window that says "New software is available for your computer", but no updates are listed and the Install button is "greyed out".
Going to Software Update properties I see: Last attempt: Failed. Error occurred while checking. Monday, November 19, 2007 2:07 AM.

I have 2 iMacs , both with the same processor speed and everything(got the best one) the problem is my left imac never updates unlike the right one. the right one always finds update to all my applications and i update them so i go on other mac to update it too but it shows everything is up to date, but it is not! it wont even let me open itunes because thats so outdated.
What do you think is the problem? This one has been causing random errors latly and im thinking of taking it too apple but im thinking if i get it replaced, will my registration key for iWork is go away , being forced to buy another one?

I cannot get updates:
The system recognizes I need updates then says:
The update cannot be saved
A network error has occurred. Check your internet connection and try again.
I don't think there is anything wrong with my connection, and I always get the same.

I am trying to download updates on my MacMini. Every time I try I get a message that says "Mac update cannot be saved you are not connected to the internet." but I am always connected to the internet. Sometimes I get other error messages, but I can't remember what they say. I have a Mac OS X 10.7 and it is trying to download Mac OS X Update Combined version 10.7.3 and Java for OS X 2012-003.
I should mention that I am also having trouble backing up on time machine. Though it works when I hook my external hard drive. A few months ago I was having some issues with my computer so I whiped it clean and I think somewhere in the process things got screwed up. I don't know if any of this has anything to do with why I can't update my computer.

iMac and Mac Mini both running 10.7.3
When Flash Trojan was announced Apple sent 2 software updates. iMac downloaded and installed them via software update. (see attached graphic) Mac Mini did not and only advised that "that there is no new software and that software is up to date".

everytime I launch fcp it asks for the serial number. Not so much a problem but it's semi-annoying. If there's a way to cut that out I'd be greatful to find out.
Second, I can't find the quicktime files i've exported. It goes they the menus and shows a progress bar and even stops normally like it would when the file is finished. I've check everywhere I can think to check. When I try to export under the same file name a pop up says "file already exisits". So I try a differnt name and we repeat the process.

I'm trying to install the Xvid codec for Quicktime. And in the ReadMe file it tells me this his how I install the codec:
To install this component, just drag the File "XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component" into Library/QuickTime. The Library directory can be found either at your home directory (to install just for the actual user) or at the top-level of your startup volume (this needs an administrator account). Do not put in: /System/Library/QuickTime.
It is possible that the QuickTime directory does not yet exists. In that case you can create it yourself. Pay attention to capital letters if you use a case sensitive file system (i.e. UFS). But I haven't got a clue where the Home Directories are.

I've been using Compressor 4 for some time and have been converting .MOV files into >WMV files. When I selected an output source the Quicktime Export Components always showed up at the bottom of the list. I would select it and then be able to START BATCH. Now, it's no longer there. Instead, the word CUSTOM is there, instead, which I can't click on at all.
I've always had and used Flip4Mac and even upgraded but still the option to select Quicktime Export Components is missing entirely. I've rebooted the program and just can't get it back.Â

yesterday, I did the following:
I did a full backup at noon with CCC 3.0.1 on my external drive.
In the evening I planned to replace my MBP's internal hard drive with a new 320GB one. But before I updated to the new Updates available (Quicktime 7.4.5, iTunes 7.6.2, Frontrow... etc). I don't know why I did it, I guess I forgot that my backup wouldn't include that, or that I wanted to replace my hard drive at all
Anyway, I replaced the HD successfully and restored the CCC created backup with my Leopard DVD via Disk Utility.
When I booted everything was the same as it was at noon, except that LittleSnitch reseted it preferences somehow, no big deal.
But now I can't use Software Update anymore. iTunes itself reports, that a new update is available and then starts Software Update, but Software Update says "everything is up to date".
I checked /Library/Updates which only included an index file (deleted it).
I searched for all Software Update .plists and deleted them, even Software Update's .log file (so it can't show me anymore which software it had updated).
Has anyone of you experienced something similar and knows a fix for this?

So a while back I had final cut pro installed, and eventually deleted cause I no longer needed it. I used AppCleaner when removing to try and make sure I got it all.
Well every time I do a software update it wants to install "Pro Applications Update" and "Prokit Updates" Which are updates for final cut pro and its related apps.
Any idea how I can stop it from wanting me to install these updates for something I no longer have?

Are there any EFI or SMC firmware updates for the "Mid 2007" Mac Mini? It's certainly possible that there were never any updates, but it seems unlikely that they had to update either the EFI, SMC, or both for most Mac models before and after this one. ...unless they just didn't care – it was the Mac Mini after all.Â
My Mac Mini is having some issues that seem to have been addressed on other models via firmware updates in the past (i.e. loss of responsiveness when connected to a Mac that is using FireWire disk mode, some other performance problems that I haven't yet been able to pin down using normal methods).
[code]...
P.S. If anyone from Apple ever sees this (unlikely), please consider adding MacMini2,1 to the list (even if there are no updates) so that we know the listing was not just omitted in error. It would also be nice (if it doesn't already exist) if there was a page listing the effective version numbers for all models (not just update numbers).

Here's what I've tried:
System Preferences > Network > Show: Airport
Click on TCP/IP button
I see the box for DNS server info, but it's blank.
I want to know which DNS server(s) my computer is hooking up to to determine whether it's infected with a certain malware. (See [url]...) It sounds outlandish, I'm only concerned because my roommate's computer is infected and we share a wireless network, which can also apparently be compromised.
