OS X :: How To Find Downloaded Wmv And Quicktime Videos On HD
Feb 5, 2009
My powerbook g4 is giving me a startup disk almost full message. I think its full of a few years of downloaded videos...how do I find them to trash them and clear some space?
About a month ago, a friend who had just purchased his first Mac emailed me and asked why his Dock DownLoad file disappeared. I had no idea why. He still hasn't been able to reestablish it.
Yesterday, I downloaded something and my Dock DownLoad file vanished. I have tried rebooting, using (useless) Help, Spotlight, Search, and several other things. NO JOY. NO DownLoad file.
1. Does anyone know where to find DownLoad or how to bring it back?
I have experienced several idiosyncrasies with Snow Leopard, but when I call Apple support, they are very nice, but haven't a clue as to why it's happening.
2. Another problem is that the Highlight gets anchored on something in Mail, Word, and some other Apps. When I click somewhere else, the whole area between the "anchor" and what I click on is lit up. Apple doesn't know what causes it. I have to go through multiple machinations to shake it loose. I don't know what it is that causes it or specifically how to "shake it loose". Neither does Apple.
3. When typing in Word or an editor, there are times when the type changes to UpperCase and won;t let go.
Another problem is that, at times, when I click on a file, it fills the screen. Apple is aware of this problem and is trying to find an answer. Nothing, to date.
Apple support can't tell me why the MacMail Inbox spinner disappeared or how to get it back.
There are times when I can't access the hidden Dock. After rebooting and trying other things, the Dock finally shows up but any additions that I have put on the Dock are no longer there.
When I put a DVD in the slot, for the first few seconds, it grinds but does smooth out.
I thought that SL was supposed to get rid of the "foibles". "What happened on the way to the Forum"?
Is anyone finding other SL idiosyncrasies? What are they?
If anyone can help with items 1., 2, and/or 3. I'd be grateful.
BTW, Apple says that items 2 and 3 MAY be caused by the wireless Magic Mouse and/or the wireless keyboard; however, when I use alternates, it still happens.
I've recently upgraded to Lion and have found that Quicktime movies and embedded Flash movies won't work. With the embedded flash all I get is a black box, and with quicktime movies, such as the ones on the Apple website, I get nothing - the irony of not being able to watch movies on the Apple site with my Apple iMac gives me a little chuckle. Anyways ....... I've been reading thread after thread and trying lots of different things but nothing works. I've got this feeling inside that says it's something simple but just can't seem to find it.
I have several HD videos from my Sony NEX-3 camera that will not play very well from within iMovie. They freeze up, or run in slow motion while the sound track continues without any problem. I've seen other related comments on this forum, but no one has suggested a fix yet. I can play my clips just fine from the finder menu using "Quick Look". Other videos from the same camera work, what has changed?
Info: Quicktime, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Quicktime Version 7.7, iPhoto 7.1.5
So I have several concert videos that Ive downloaded. The files are labeled like this:
vts_01_01.vob , vts_01_02.vob, etc
On a windows machine these open up automatically, and some have menus that are functional, and all files play one after another.
On my mac, I had to download an app called VLC to play these files, but the thing is, once one file is done I have to manually open the next, and any menus that are present are non functional.
How can I get these videos to work on a mac the same way the do on a pc?
I just realized how easy it is to download videos using safari and watch the .flv file. The question I have is does anyone know of a program that will convert the .flv files to .avi/ .mpg files?
My IMac seems to be lagging when I play videos of movies or soap operas that I downloaded online. What do you think the cause of this could be? I play the videos in VLC, and I should be having a lag free smooth video play back right? I think I am still within the 14 day period, should I call apple and request a replacement? Also my HDD is always running at a constant 59 ~ 60 c when just watching videos / movies is this within normal temperatures?
I cant stream quicktime videos in safari. Every time I go to a video for example on apple.com and try to watch an iPod or Mac advert it will just tells me quicktime is required, free download. I've tried downloading quicktime 7 again but then it says that it cannot be installed because quicktime X is already installed, go to software update to install older version. Software update has no updates for me. I'm stuck, has anyone else had this problem?
I do have Quicktime X installed but it still wont let me view the videos.
I did a quick search but couldn't find any info on this.
Anyone know how to speed up movies downloaded via iTunes so they play at the correct speed? Movies don't sync with the sound correctly and pause a lot while playing. I've got an iBook G4 with OSX 10.3.9, 1GHZ Processor and 640 mb ddr sdram. Do I need to upgrade the ram to 1024mb? Or could my video card be going out? I use quicktime v. 7.5 to watch them. I can't seem to download any updates to quicktime even though newer versions are available.
I have been trying to download my videos from camcorder to my Mac. Now I am trying to open it, it doesn't it says that it does not support quick player what can I do?
Just like the title states, I need to edit stuff from a TV show to play for my class. I tried to open it in quicktime but no luck- I don't have the option. I have the pro version but am I missing something? If I can't do this- any other programs you guys know?
I recently downloaded an avi file but it does not want to work with quicktime 7. When I attempt to open it i get the "quicktime does not support this file" message however when i right click the avi file icon and select get info, the video playback works in the preview section... Do any of you know why this is and how I can get it to work in Quicktime
I bought & downloaded MPEG2 QT component in order to use for editing video from a DVD with home movies that had been converted from tapes. When I put on computer it was .cdr which could not be used in iMovie. I need to convert to one that will work. I also got MPEG Streamclip, both on advice from a forum discussion. where did it go on my computer? I have searched with Spotlight & it wasn't found.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), files from Windows XP PC
I downloaded an .avi file and the sound won't play. It said the audio was in dolby ac3 code 8192 and I would need a plug-in. I tried converting to DivX and playing through Flip & that didn't work either. I tried placing the file in the library>audio>plug-in>component folder & that didn't work. There is no Quicktime folder to place it in.
im having a problem with sound when i play downloaded movies on quicktime. i have video but no sound.with ripped dvd i get sound and video same with original dvd.
where on the hard drive to place the Quicktime update once it has downloaded onto a Mac? I can't seem to find the right location, and now cannot operate iTunes. I am using Firefox. My husband uses Safari, and I think I may have to download for his ID, as well.
I will have to spend $60 ($30 for me and $30 for my 93-year-old dad) just to crop off the beginning and end of the MP4 videos that we load onto our PCs from our new Kodak cameras. (The cameras were only $65 each, which was the only reason I could afford them.)Bought the cameras for myself and my dad this spring, but most of our videos are of wildlife and pets. That means waiting before and after the animal does something interesting, and that means cropping the beginning and end. With our old Kodak cameras (videos were .mov format) we could do that with basic QuickTime, but not anymore.Apparently gotta go Pro just to make basic cuts.
Actually, I don't expect Apple to give away everything free, and wouldn't mind paying something for basic editing options. But Pro isn't basic, and it isn't cheap, especially considering I'd have to pay for it twice.IMO, Apple should offer a cheaper version that just does the basics.
i downloaded a few TV shows in .AVI format, and when I try to play them in quicktime on my iMac it says I need to download the divx codec. these shows play fine in Divx but still wont play in Quicktime. is there any way I can get them to play in quicktime?
I have the latest leopard, safari and quicktime software and the problem is that I cant play quicktime videos in safari. It works perfectly in Firefox... I erased and installed those apps again and still no sucess. What do you guys think the problem is?
Have installed Firefox 10.0.2 in my iMac (2.93 Ghz Core i7) using OS 10.6.8.Firefox will not paly any Quicktime videos and asks that Quicktime plugin be installed. Quicktime plug in is not listed in the list of available Firefox add-ons.I do notice in my Library in the Internet Plug-ins folder a Firefox_Quicktime plug-in seems to be listed. When I try to choose it from the drop down list: Install Add-on from File the Firefox add-on is gray and unavailable.I like using Firefox but not being able to see Quicktime videos is irksome. Any clue as to what is wrong and how I can fix it. I have searched the archives and see others have had this problem but other than deinstalling and hoping a reinstall works is there any other remedy.
For some reason, my digital camera records movies in quicktime format. I also recently purchased an iPad and I have started taking short home videos on that as well. I want to back these movies up onto a DVD but for some reason I cannot burn the quicktime videos. My main reason for wanting to do this is to preserve the movies (they are movies of my kids that we'll want to watch many years from now, long after my computer and iPad are dead). The second reason is to free up space on the iPad. What is the best way to backup home video to preserve them (forever) and free up space on my devices?
I cant seem to get quicktime videos to work with firefox for example when on the apple site the videos dont work it just tells me to download quicktime 7 but I already have quicktime 7 and quicktime x (i am running snow leopard). When I go on to the apple website and try and watch videos on safari they load but I would rather use firefox as opposed to safari.
I tried to convert some of my avi files to mp4 so they would play in itunes. But then when I reverted it back to normal avi my quicktime stopped playing all of them. Now it says I need to get another component from:
[URL]
Also, I tried using perian and that didn't help me at all. Then I downloaded a new avi file and it had the video but no sound. Could that be just a corrupted file or my quicktime being sassy? I've been working on this problem for two days and haven't come up with much.
I have hundreds of videos of various formats on my late 2008 model Macbook Pro. Up until this point I have had no issues playing videos. I recently updated Flip4Mac app and now when I try to open videos in Quicktime they have to buffer, even though they are stored on my Macbook. This doesn't happen for all videos, but the majority of them. I'm on OSX version 10.5.8, Quicktime version 7.6.4, Flip4Mac version 2.3.1.2. Why my saved videos are now buffering? This only happens with .wmv files I have come to realize, this never used to be the case.
I am using QT ver 7.5 with OS 10.3.9 and I always install software updates. All of a sudden I can't open QT videos in emails, I get the question mark inside the Q and the message says "additional software is needed...check the QT website". So I have checked, and done a reinstall, and installed add-ons and nothing works. Do I need to reload an older version of QT software to fix this? What version is best?
I'm using 10.7.3. iTunes 10.6. MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz 4GB ram. ITunes won't play my video anymore and it's been a while I'm not sure when it occurred if it's after an update to snow leopard or iTunes updates. When I double click a video I get "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."? And cannot convert the option doesn't work I get this other message when trying to convert a version for APPLE TV in advanced menu "None of the selected files were converted because they could not be found."?
But the movies are quicktime movies in my library and the MPEG-4 plays in iTunes but not on APPLE TV. From all my videos I get one only going through APPLE TV and when I try opening it it says error occured why opening and never works? It seems APPLE is regularly messing things up in updates to loose people so they have to pay for tech support, I didn't upgrade to iPhoto 11 and cannot import anything anymore into it so my entire library is a dead one; not a cool way to do business than messing people software so they have to buy newer versions!
