as the title says. I have some AVI files that Quicktime doesn't want to play. it's telling me to go to this site that has different codecs but none of them work. I have that flip4mac program but it doesn't do anything either.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just tried DivX for Mac [URL] but found out that it doesn't support .srt subtitles. I'm already using Flip4Mac for .wmv files, but I'm looking for a codec pack to play all other codecs like Divx, Xvid, H.264 with subtitles support for .sub and .srt files. I know that Perian is a good one, but is there anyone better?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install the Xvid codec for Quicktime. And in the ReadMe file it tells me this his how I install the codec:
To install this component, just drag the File "XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component" into Library/QuickTime. The Library directory can be found either at your home directory (to install just for the actual user) or at the top-level of your startup volume (this needs an administrator account). Do not put in: /System/Library/QuickTime.
It is possible that the QuickTime directory does not yet exists. In that case you can create it yourself. Pay attention to capital letters if you use a case sensitive file system (i.e. UFS). But I haven't got a clue where the Home Directories are.
When I open one of the files a dialog box comes up that says, "Additional software is required for quicktime to playback this media" with a link to the quicktime components page.
If I just play the file anyway the sound is all garbled and there's no video at all, it just stays black. Also, the same exact thing happens with realplayer. does this mean there's a problem with the files or something?
I cannot play some avi files. Those that can be played have audio for the first 2 seconds and they disappear.

I suspect that this has been asked before, but how do I now play .mov files. I created some movies a few years ago for teaching purposes and need to use them again. However, neither iMovie nor Quicktime seem to recognise/support the .mov format.

I'm having a problem viewing some .mov files due to a missing codec. A contractor delivered me video content from a recent event on an external hard drive. The files he sent me are .mov files that he exported from Final Cut Pro using a DVCPRO HD (720p60), linear PCM, Timecode codec. I want to be able to view these files through Quicktime on my machine, but I don't use FCP. I tried installing the Apple prores decoder, as another thread here seemed to indicate this might solve my issue, but when I ran the installer, it said a newer version fo the decoder was already installed on my machine. Is there any straightforward way to download/install the codec I need to view these files without shelling out for FCP?

I am having trouble playing MKV files in Quicktime X. I have Perian installed. When I click on an MKV file to play it it plays fine in Quicktime 7. Is there something I need to do to allow mkv to be played in Quicktime X?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have edited several videos using Final Cut Express and exported them as .mov files to my desktop. Now, because I have a small internal hard drive (128GB SSD), I copy all of my raw footage to an external hard drive and then delete the files from my Mac HD. But, I keep the finished videos on my desktop. When I try to play the video while the hard drive is plugged in, QuickTime opens and plays the video just fine. But, when the external hard drive is NOT connected and I try to play the video (from my Mac HD), QuickTime won't open it nor play it. If I absolutely have to, I will carry the external HD around with me so I can play my videos, but I was just wondering if it had to do with the codec (H.264) my OS (10.6.8) QuickTime X or FCE (4.1).

I have the latest QT and OSX software. I also have Perian installed. I upgraded my Flip4Mac to version 2.4.4.2 recently and now my QT will not play wmv files and sometimes it will not play mov files. I've never had trouble with QT before and have learned through online research that there has been an issue with a 3ivx codec that comes with Divx that everyone says to remove from the System/library/quicktime folder. I checked, and I didn't have that particular codec listed. I DO, however, have ALL of these codecs listed in my QT folder:
AppleGVAHW.component
ApplePiletVideo.component
AppleProResDecoder.component
AppleVAH264HW.component
[code]....
This seems like a lot of codecs, many of which I am unsure about. Could ANY of these be causing my wmv files (or my Flip4Mac) to be corrupt and unable to work?
I am using OS 10.7 Lion. Quicktime will not play avi files. One support forum gave 2 links to get the proper codecs but I got a 404 error.

I've had QT with Flip4Mac, Perian, Flash payer installed (as well as the older version of QT 7 where I can do easy edits), and it seems that when I click to open a wmv file as I have a million times in the past, QT says that the operation cannot be completed and the movie doesn't play.
What has caused this to happen? It seems like it stared right after I updated my Flip4Mac...now using 2.4.4.2. how to get my wmv files to play again? I'd certainly appreciate any pointers.

i opened up my video in quicktime pro and trimmed it down to around 15 seconds of video that i need, and it plays fine. but the problem is, when i save it as an .mov file and open it, there's only audio on it, with a grey screen.

None of my mp4 files play on iTunes or QuickTime, both of which are up to date. I have OS X 10.7.5. The mp4 files have all been added to iTunes movies. But when I click 'play', the window is all black / blank although the title of the video is shown in the header, and even the timer . Same with QuickTime.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently got a Macbook pro OS X Lion and for the past few months have had problems with trying to run movies on Quicktime 10.1. My videos files are usually .AVI but when I try to click on it quick time opens and then tells me that it can't read the file. I've search the internet for answer and have tried a lot of different solutions that others have had success on (including updating Perian and trying to convert the .AVI file to .MOV) yet I still have had no such luck.

I am starting a new thread because I am unable to play mov files in QuickTime X. This includes previously downloaded movie trailers from apple, mov files downloaded in itunes, mov files filmed on my iPhone or even files created from hd camcorder files. I am alo unable to play embedded QuickTime movies on the apple homepage, or play move trailers such as: [URL]Neither does the "download" option work. However if I force the files to play with QuickTime 7 or vlc, they play fine. If I use Firefox the embedded videos play ok, but in the example of trying to download the movie trailers still doesn't work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open.
2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?

Who would want to encode in 256 colors? Why would you use the ancient Graphics codec??
Well, I am. Get over it! If I just encode a movie with Graphics codec, it obviously looks very dithered and crappy.
I can generate an optimized color palette in Photoshop and export that table to an .act file. But how do I associte that color palette with my Quicktime?

Whenever I select multiple files (video and/or MP3) to be played with QuickTime, a different window is opened for each file.
Is there a way or another player where the files selected to be played consecutively are all opened and listed in one window and played consecutively?

everytime I launch fcp it asks for the serial number. Not so much a problem but it's semi-annoying. If there's a way to cut that out I'd be greatful to find out.
Second, I can't find the quicktime files i've exported. It goes they the menus and shows a progress bar and even stops normally like it would when the file is finished. I've check everywhere I can think to check. When I try to export under the same file name a pop up says "file already exisits". So I try a differnt name and we repeat the process.
