Mac :: Green Lines On IMac When Using EyeTV Or VLC

Jul 19, 2010

My friend has the 24" white, 2.16Ghz iMac - spec http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...nch-specs.htmlHe is currently running a fully updated install of Tiger, and running EyeTV v2.5.3 and VLC (unknown version). Here are the problems being exhibited:1/ When EyeTV is running, it will sporadically, and unpredictably, crash without explanation.2/ Many times, the iMac will not even boot - it gets so far @ the grey screen, and then the "Please restart your computer" screen pops up:3/ Also, when using either VLC or EyeTV, sometimes there are patterns of green *horizontal* lines, spanning the area of the video playback window (NOT the entire iMac screen) - this happens a LOT.I have booted in safe mode, verified the volume in Disk Utility, repaired permissions, and it still exhibits these same issues. Also, EyeTV will freeze when displaying video, quite often.

MacBook Pro :: Why Does The Apple Logo Have Green Lines On It

Jun 17, 2010

My MacBook Pro started Experiencing this today... for the first time it completely crashed, and the screen got filled with green lines... I restarted it and when the Apple logo came up, it had some stripes in it, and won't start the system due to "System Failure" or something like that... I managed to get through it, but then it happened again and now it's for good. I can start the system, but when it comes to passing the Apple logo it just crashes and the screen is filled with green stripes. I wish I could screen shot it, but it mysteriously disappeared on my last attempt to turn the system on... and when it happens it just freezes the system.

Software :: Photo Booth Green Lines - How To Know About It

Feb 19, 2009

I downloaded the newest effects for Photo booth Composer FX Effects for Photo Booth 1.9.2 and whenever i added the effects there is a green line through the effect. I have downloaded other effects in the past so I don't know if the two cannot be used together and interefere. Also when I downloaded the effects it said we strongly recommend downloading these updates (and then it said a list of updates) I tried to update them but it said my computer did not need them. So basically, I have the effects set up on my photobooth, and they work, they just have green lines striking through the effect.

MacBook Pro :: Thin Green Lines On Screen

Jun 19, 2014

my macbook pro screen has two thin green lines running down the screen from top to bottom.  i have run the apple hardware test and it has detected an error.  unfortunately i am in a remote village for the next two months and unable to get my macbook to a repair centre. What the thin green lines indicate?, whether the error on the hard drive and the green lines are connected or something different? the lap top seems to be working fine however im concerned that as i cant get to a repair place for the next 2 months whether continued use will damage the computer further?

Mac Pro :: Green Horizontal Lines On Display And Crashing

Aug 31, 2014

I have a 2007 Mac Pro 1,1 with attached 24" apple display and utilizing 5 GB Ram and maxed out on internal hard drives. It's been a flawless workhorse and I mostly tax it with Photoshop which it does well. Well, yesterday, I was viewing a small video on my Mac when this issue occurred. Suddenly I saw these squiggly looking horizontal lines on my display. Then I saw a spinning beach ball. I had to shut down.

I double checked my display cables in case any were loose - no issues. Restarted without issue. Went back to work on my computer - no issues doing ordinary tasks such as opening windows, moving files and surfing the internet. Went back into Photoshop and resized several dozen images without issue. Then, this happened again... restarted. Zapped PRAM just in case. Fired up Tech Tool Deluxe (older version 3.1.3) and it found NO problems, I passed all tests.

Then... out of nowhere it crashed again, third time... I don't recall what I was doing to be honest. I shut down my Mac last night and this morning have spent an hour on and so far, so good. However, I'm not taxing it by doing anything intense. I need to use Photoshop for a project I'm working on so I will do that soon and see if this issue repeats.

I've tried searching the forums but can't find anything conclusive to my specific issue. What else should I do? What else should I check? Is this hardware or a software issue? I have temperature monitor installed - should I be looking at specific temperature increases and if so, where?

GPU going bad on logic board? This is a really close up image taken with my iphone, obviously the lines aren't this large.

Mac :: IMac Screen Lines Of Dead Pixels?

Jun 4, 2009

I use an Intel white iMac 2.0gHz as my primary computer. So far, it has given me no trouble. However, lately I woke the computer to discover a yellow line of dead pixels all the way to the right of the screen. It was discouraging but since the line was out of the way, it wasn't a great deal. However again, later today, I woke the display to find another line running down the middle of the computer. Oh gosh! Anyone know what is going on? Is it the display or the graphics card?

IMac :: Horizontal Lines Across The Surface Of Monitor

Aug 7, 2010

I have an Apple iMac 20" 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I work on photos in Adobe Photoshop CS4. Am running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. Am getting thin horizontal lines across the surface of the monitor. Reduced the resolution of the monitor from 1680 x 1050 to 1344 x 840. For a while, it was better but the lines are back again. Any idea what is causing this problem? Is it software, a setting on the computer or maybe a problem with the video card? Hope it is not a bad video card.

IMac PPC :: Why Are There Vertical Colored Lines On Desktop

Jun 29, 2012

This just started today. My computer started to get weird vertical colored lines on the screen. At first, I thought it was just the website I was on, but more and more began to appear everywhere. I unplugged my computer and plugged it back it, turned it on, and when the white screen witht he Apple logo came up, the lines were everywhere. They weren't just making vertical lines, but also squares. Later, the weirdest thing happened. I was opening a new window on Safari, and suddenly, these pyramid-shaped objects covered the screen. They were red, with a little with of blue and a tiny bit of white on them. they pointed in all directions, and the minute I moved my mouse, they dissapeared. When I hold down on the left button on the mouse and hover it over the squares and lines, about 65% of the dots dissapear. My computer is an iMac G5 from 2004 with no iSight, the model number is A1058, the software is Leopard (10.5.8), and the processor is 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5.

PowerPC :: IMac G5 (First Gen) Screen Fills With Bunch Of Lines

Mar 30, 2009

I'm looking for some information and possible repair tips for my cousins iMac G5 (First Gen) 1989. I don't know anything about mac's, I've always been a PC user. But, I recently fixed both my aunt's laptop and desktop (both pc), so my cousin asked if I would take a look at her mac, as well. Basically, when the iMac is turned on, the screen goes weird. It fills with a bunch of lines (both horizontal and vertical), some spanning the entire length of the screen, and some being only about half an inch long. The lines don't stay stable, they flicker and change positions every few seconds. Behind the lines, you can see the black screen with the apple on it.

It doesn't seem to get past this point though, it seems to freeze and never leave the apple screen, although the flickering lines continue to change. I tried jiggling and moving the power cord around, and whenever I moved it the lines on the screen seemed to change positions. I also tried taking hold of the sides of the monitor (machine? I have no idea what mac-speak for anything is) and very gently pressing and "twisting", and this changed the lines as well, at one point it turned to all vertical lines spanning the entire length of the screen. We opened it up to see if any wires were loose inside or anything, but there really weren't any exposed wires that I could see that I could even try to tighten/adjust. Right now it's not even usable.
