Mac :: Connecting MBP To Windows Printers
Dec 18, 2009
Connecting to Samsung printer on Windows PCI connected to my Samsung ML 1610 from the MBP using the CUPS link. on sending the test page to the printer it activates but does not print the test page. It does not print any documents pages either. Incidentally the drop down list in the CUPS link did not show my model so I clicked the next nearest printer the Samsunb ML 1630. The same thing happens on connecting with my office Cannon LBP 2900 using the CUPS link. Neither printer prints! both are shared, there are no firewall issues,

i have been given the task of trying to get mac machines printing on Ricoh printers on a windows network in a small private school. I have gone through the appropriate steps of installing the drivers for the printers through using PxlMono, Foot, Ghost, etc... to make it so I can work without the cards in the printers.
However, adding the printers to the mac is a whole new problem. The machines are added appropriately to the domain. The necessary printers are now showing up in the open directory portion of the adding printers window. However, upon trying to add them, it states the following: An error occurred while trying to add the selected device.
Bad device-uri "smb://****-DC1.****.loc/High School Workroom RICOH".
Are the spaces in the name creating issues? There is another printer on the network that worked with a different mac that appears to have spaces in the name as well. Adding with IPP doesn't, saying that there was an error with it and asks if i want to install it anyway. If I do install it anyway, it becomes unresponsive regardless. I've even gone through the CUPS menu in port 631 and tried adding with IPP that way, and it still doesn't work. I'm about to go insane trying to get these dang things to print. I have 5 different macs trying to connect for 4-5 printers each for this craziness.

I've got a Mac mini connected to my network through wireless. The Vista computers in the house can only see the "Printers" folder on the mini. The mini can get all the files on the Windows machines. I've also got a Power Mac G4 connected to the mini and it can see all the files on the mini. This has been happening for months!

I've tried re-installing and updating every possible graphics related driver for Windows 7 i cannot for love or toffee get the bloody thing to even recognize my display. I am using a 26" tv as an external display, it works on OS X (very easily), windows XP (also very easily) and even Vista (also easily) and connecting through a DVI/HDMI connector. Why not windows 7? I've scoured the web for answers but can't find anything. Is anyone at least in the same boat as me? I really need this solved soon

Ok, I feel like a doofus, but I need some help if someone is willing.
I bought an Airport Extreme and installed per instructions on the Mac partition. The Extreme replaces an Express as the base unit, the express now extends the range of the network (and is now connected to my stereo system). So, the "new" network that was set up has the exact same name as the old one when it was just the Express.
Everything works fine on the mac side. When I go to my Win XP side (Boot camp) it sees the network but says it cannot connect. To put is simply, I can't remeber what I need to do. I haven't had to mess with this stuff since I set it up almost 2 years ago. Do I need to set up a new network?... I am just drawing a blank. Is keeping the same name for the "new" network part of my problem?

I have a Mac Mini running OS X 10.6.5, and a Windows Vista SP2 laptop. I sync my iPhone to the Mini, so all my photos and videos are saved there. Now, I want to be able to access the Mini from Vista on the laptop. Windows Sharing is on, and in Vista I select Run-> "192.168.1.100" (the IP address of the Mini), and an explorer window pops up asking me for a password. I enter the password for the administrator account I use to log in on the Mini, "user1" and "blahblah", where "user1" is the user ID, not the name associated with the account, i.e. "John Doe".

I have a mac mini that I have connected to my LCD TV in the living room. This works fantastically. I just love this little box, it has all my content that I play on the TV. But I don't want to handle the keyboard every single time I want to listen to music or watch a video. So I want a way to connect from my HP laptop (Windows vista) to the mac mini remotely and operate the mac mini from my sofa where I have the laptop. If both my machines were mac, this is easy as there is remote sharing. But if my laptop is Hp windows, then what should I do? Is there some vpn thing that will work? I tried searching etc but am not sure what I need to search for here.

After installing Windows 7 on my mac, and installing the Apple drivers, I made an attempt to pair my Apple Wireless Keyboard with Windows. Well, Windows recognizes the device, but whenever I attempt to connect the two I get an error. The error states: Adding the device failed resulting in a unknown error. The reported error code is: 0x80004005. It then tells me to contact the device manufacturer. Did anyone else get this error?

Previously I was running Windows XP and one of my XP drives was shared on the network and the various Macs (Leopard) that I was running. The Macs had no issues connecting via the networking/file sharing. As soon as I upgraded XP to Windows 7, I noticed a significantly slower time to connect to the drive (a couple minutes). Once I installed Snow Leopard on one of the Macs (rest still running Leopard), that time increased to about 4 minutes to connect. This drive needs to be shared amongst PCs and Macs, and I tried to use SMB, but nothing seems to solve the issue why it takes so long to connect. All the Mac updates have been installed. How can I make it faster so I'm not sitting for 4 minutes every time I need to connect?

I have a new 27" i7 iMac with OSX 10.6.4 and need to connect it to our work place network that runs a Windows 2003 Domain Controller etc. I've never touch an Apple/iMac before and I don't know much of anything about them. I'll tell you this much, I LIKE THIS MACHINE! WOW! I really like it! So I'm pretty sure I have it on the network... maybe. But the biggest problem I have is when I log on as the user (and it indicates "Network" under the user name), I can see the network resources, the user folder is available down on the Dock but when I make changes to the Desktop, Dock etc. they don't save when I log out and log back in. So I hope someone here can help point me in the right direction. I have done a lot of Google and other forum search but I'm not really finding my answer.

So as the title states, I'm having trouble getting the wireless to work through Vista on my MBA.The router is a dlink DIR-615, supports wireless-N. It works fine when I'm in OS X. But when I'm in Vista, it shows up, but when I try to connect it won't work. Basically it just says it cannot connect to the router, and it tells me to select a different network.
Router settings on the DIR-615:
- mixed mode a/b/g/n
- channel 6
- WPA/WPA2 encryption
- AES cipher
I tried manually setting up the connection with the corresponding settings on the router through the settings, but no luck. I tried connecting to a different router, WRT-54G the popular linksys one, no problems with that.
Boot Camp drivers have been installed. Its weird, I had this problem setting up my PS3 (playstation 3) before; It would connect, but it was unable to access internet. I had to disable/enable the PS3 wireless system to get it working again. My sister has a macbook pro 12", and she hasn't had any problems connecting through OS X.I'm a first time Mac user, am I missing anything?

On my mac, to connect to any of my windows computers, I used to go to the "Go" menu and then select "Connect to Server". From there I would type in smb://172.19.2.6 and then "connect" and away I would go. I'd get the good old list of network shares to mount. Now when I select the smb://172.19.2.6, "connect", I get an error. Nothing network wise has changed. I rebooted my WAP and reset my net connection and everything else. And networking works fine on the PC side.

Can I install a Raid Controller and connect say two drives to it, specially for windows? Will it be bootable? Or perhaps even connect the iPass of the four internal bays to an Adaptec 5405 and get a separate cable for my Mac Drive. Will both be bootable? What if I just want to boot Windows for now? I sometimes need to convert my early 2008 Mac Pro into a rather beefy Windows workstation and the lack of HW Raid is rather irritating.

I go to the network folder and it's completely empty - sit there for 30 secs and nothing loads. I found some tutorials that said I need to go to finder > apps > utilities > directory access Problem is, I dont see anything called directory access ANYWHERE on my mac. Can you guys help me? Windows machine is running XP Mac is running Snow Leopard Tried manually typing in the workgroup name in advanced network prefs on Mac - didn't seem to do anything.

Windows 7 has been awesome so far, but there are still the occasional driver issues. What I'm having trouble with now is firewire. I used to use HFS Explorer to access my external (HFS formatted) hard drive but it no longer shows up in HFS Explorer. Windows doesn't even make the "device connected" sound when I turn it on (yes I'm running HFS Explorer in admin mode/Vista compatibility). Pretty sure it's a firewire driver issue, but I have no clue who makes the firewire for my early 08 MBP.

On tiger, I could connect to windows file shares quite easily, if I recall:
1. in Finder, use "Go" -> "Connect to Server"
2. Enter smb://servername/sharename
3. Click "Connect"
In Snow Leopard, I do this and I'm prompted for a login, but it WILL NOT take my windows domain / username and password.

I have recently bought a Mac Book Pro. This is my first experience with a modern computer from Apple and in very first contact with Mac OS "Snow Leopard".
I am trying to configure that Mac to share the resources of my Windows XP small network at home. For that I have followed several instructions I found published on the Internet by other Mac users who were trying to do exactly the same as I am trying to do.
Unfortunately I face a quite basic problem all the time: when I follow any of the posts/ instructions, sooner or later, I cannot move forward because I cannot find where exactly the DIRECTORY ACCESS (or any functionally equivalent configuration program like that) in Mac OS Snow Leopard is located.

Simple question to you guys with multiple monitor setups:
How does the OS resize/rearrange windows when connecting/disconnecting the Macbook Pro from the larger display? I'd imagine it'd have to do something since the resolution on the larger monitor is much greater than the MB screen.
