OS X :: Connecting From Windows To A Mac Mini Box

Dec 30, 2010

I have a mac mini that I have connected to my LCD TV in the living room. This works fantastically. I just love this little box, it has all my content that I play on the TV. But I don't want to handle the keyboard every single time I want to listen to music or watch a video. So I want a way to connect from my HP laptop (Windows vista) to the mac mini remotely and operate the mac mini from my sofa where I have the laptop. If both my machines were mac, this is easy as there is remote sharing. But if my laptop is Hp windows, then what should I do? Is there some vpn thing that will work? I tried searching etc but am not sure what I need to search for here.

Mac Mini :: Connecting A 2011 Mini To A 2011 IMac Via Thunderbold To Use IMacs Display

Jun 16, 2012

I've just ordered an i5 Mac Mini and while it's destined to be used as a media-centre/ streamer connected to my TV via HDMI, initially I want to hook it up to the display on my 2011 iMac. Can one of you clever bods point me in the direction of what cable I need, and also what do I need to do to the iMac to make it behave as just a monitor? Is it just a matter of plugging in the cables and off I go?

I've scoured the web for answers but can't find anything. Is anyone at least in the same boat as me? I really need this solved soon

Windows On Mac :: Bought Airport Extreme - Need Connecting On Windows

Jan 9, 2010

Ok, I feel like a doofus, but I need some help if someone is willing.

I bought an Airport Extreme and installed per instructions on the Mac partition. The Extreme replaces an Express as the base unit, the express now extends the range of the network (and is now connected to my stereo system). So, the "new" network that was set up has the exact same name as the old one when it was just the Express.

Everything works fine on the mac side. When I go to my Win XP side (Boot camp) it sees the network but says it cannot connect. To put is simply, I can't remeber what I need to do. I haven't had to mess with this stuff since I set it up almost 2 years ago. Do I need to set up a new network?... I am just drawing a blank. Is keeping the same name for the "new" network part of my problem?

Software :: Connecting Mac Mini To LCD TV?

Aug 3, 2008

When i connect my mac mini (G4-Tiger) to my samsung (ln52a750) LCD TV with a HDI-DVI cable, I get "no Signal" on the screen.

When I connect the mac mini (sem as above) to the LCD TV, with a DVI-VGA cable, I see the apple log and by the time is getting the OS load, I get "invalid Mode" and then "no Signal" on the screen.

I downloaded SystemRes X as suggested in some of the threads and change the resolution, but it seems that it was not saved.

OS X :: Connecting Mini Display Port To HDMI On Mbp?

Jan 11, 2010

I am new here, I have been watching the forum but have not needed to post until now. I have a june 2.8 MBP running snow leopard and I am having problems with Mini DP to HDMI. I have a convertor to go direct to hdmi from mini dp but when I use it to watch movies the color is really dark. It is almost unwatchable.

It is not a hardware thing because when I boot into windows 7 I can watch the same file with the same hardware with no issue with darkness.

I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue in snow leopard. I have searched mroogle as well as good and could not find anything.

Connecting Logitech Mini Boombox To MacBook Pro

Everytime I try and use the "Mini Boombox", there is always an issue and a complete waste of time setting up. It seems I have to pair every single time, turn on and off a few times and only then will the boombox sometimes work. I'm not sure if I have a bad unit or my setting are incorrect.I keep my BB plugged in all the time therefore is always fully charged.Do we really need to pair every single time we turn on and off computer and/or Boombox?

MacBook Pro :: Connecting Two Apple Monitors With Mini DVI Plugs?

Jan 7, 2010

I have a new macbook pro that uses a mini DVI port.

I currently have an apple 30" monitor connected to the macbook pro using that mini dvi port. My wife just bought me a 24" apple monitor which also has a mini dvi connector (male). I need either a mini-DVI splitter to create two female mini DVI inputs at the macbook pro to connect these two monitors or an adapter that has a female mini-DVI on one end and a female DVI on the other. I previously had a 2nd non apple monitor connected using UV plus.

[URL]

So simply--how do I plug in the 2nd monitor.

I have called apple support and searched google with no success. I fear at this point that this is not possible to do. Does anyone know of a solution?

MacBook Pro :: Connecting Mini Display Port To TV HDMI

Mar 22, 2012

I have a new MacBook Pro 17" computer. I want to play a DVD through the computer to a Toshiba 26" flat screen TV, using a mini port to HDMI.

At first nothing happened, then after much fiddling I got the Apple Spiral Galaxy image on the TV and my usual desktop on the computer. I then discovered that I can move the cursor from my desktop across to the right, where it disappears from my computer screen and appears on the left side of the spiral galaxy on the TV. So it's like I have two side-by-side screens, the Apple galaxy on the left, my computer on the right. In addition, I keep my dock on the right side and it's barely visible on the right side of the galaxy screen.

Incidentally if I play the DVD I can drag and drop it to the right so it slides off of my computer and onto the galaxy. But I know that's not the real solution.

Mac Mini :: Connecting Shuffle (4thG) To It: Keyboard Non-responsive?

Apr 3, 2012

I got a brand new 4th Generation Ipod Shuffle. When I connect it (USB) to my Mac mini (2008), the wired aluminum Mac USB keyboard no longer responds.  Disconnecting the shuffle returns the keyboard to normal function. I have Snow Leopard (10.6.8), iTunes 10.6.1(7). Is this a limitation of the Mac mini? Do some of the USB ports "share" power, and will isolating the Shuffle to an unshared port resolve this? (I don't know which might be shared...)

OS X :: Connecting Macbook To Projector - Even With Mini Dvi Port It Doesn't Work

Apr 14, 2010

There was another thread on this that I found via Google, but now I can't seem to find it again. I have to occasionally hook up my Macbook (not a Pro) to various digital projectors at different companies. I bought the $20 attachment thing. I brought it in and have not been able to get any projector to recognize it at all. This is on several different projectors. I try hooking it up both before and after turning the computer on and it doesn't work. I went to "Display" in System Preferences but there is nothing there about changing the display (to "dual" or "mirror" or anything), it just says "Color LCD" and some preferences about size, bits and stretching. There are no tabs. The worst part is that I teach at a lot of tech companies, so the people there should all know how to fix it, but...1.) can't read English that well, and my Chinese is OK but not *that* good, and 2.) they all use PCs. Macs are like aliens to them. So they can't fix it either. The manual is worse than useless.

MacBook Pro :: Connecting To External Display - Apple Mini Displayport To DVI And DVI To DVI Cable

Oct 7, 2009

I have a presentation tomorrow and need to hook up my MBP to the projector in class. I bought an Apple Mini Displayport to DVI cable, and a DVI to DVI cable. I thought this would be the case, but come to find out the system does not support DVI. So I had to run to Best buy to get a DVI to VGA cable. I tried out the MDP > DVI > VGA rig on my external monitor and got nothing. The screen on my MBP responded by turning blue for a second and then back to normal...but the monitor said "No Signal". Is this some jargon with DVI-D and DVI-I? I need to know by tomorrow morning if I have to run back to the Apple Store and get a Mini Displayport to VGA cable.

OS X :: SL Options For Connecting With Windows 7

Aug 11, 2010

Previously I was running Windows XP and one of my XP drives was shared on the network and the various Macs (Leopard) that I was running. The Macs had no issues connecting via the networking/file sharing. As soon as I upgraded XP to Windows 7, I noticed a significantly slower time to connect to the drive (a couple minutes). Once I installed Snow Leopard on one of the Macs (rest still running Leopard), that time increased to about 4 minutes to connect. This drive needs to be shared amongst PCs and Macs, and I tried to use SMB, but nothing seems to solve the issue why it takes so long to connect. All the Mac updates have been installed. How can I make it faster so I'm not sitting for 4 minutes every time I need to connect?
