i have searched a lot but haven't been able to solve my problem
i have a windows XP box on my network
i can connect to the C$/D$ admin shares via smb://.... only when the windows firewall is OFF - when i enable it, i can't connect
i have allowed ports 135-139,445 in the firewall, but still no luck
Ok so within the last day my internet sharing has been working fine, it just won't let incoming devices connect to it. I.E. my Ipod Touch sees my MacBook Pro, but doesn't get an IP I believe, same case with my iPhone because it tries to use the Wifi, but since it can't properly connect either, it switches to 3G. If I disable the Firewall, everything works as it should, so the Firewall is definitely the problem. What I am stuck on is how to configure it properly so that I can use internet sharing, while having the firewall enabled. I haven't even touched anything related to the Firewall in months, so the fact that this just randomly happened is beyond me. I have even made sure that the internet sharing program in the firewall list has the "Allow incoming connections" toggle selected. I haven't touched the box that says "Allow signed software to receive incoming connections," but that box has always been enabled for months. I can't remember now, but I think initially when I came up with the idea that Firewall was causing problems, I noticed that the internet sharing program in the firewall config list actually had the "Block incoming connections" toggle selected. I thought allowing incoming connections would surely fix this, but I guess not.

1. in Finder, use "Go" -> "Connect to Server"
2. Enter smb://servername/sharename
3. Click "Connect"
In Snow Leopard, I do this and I'm prompted for a login, but it WILL NOT take my windows domain / username and password.
So it was my understanding that all the mac pro motherboards have supported SLI, only that it does not work under OSX. Do you need to have special SLI enabled nvidia cards or would the stock 120GTs work? ie, if you were to purchase it with 4 120GTs would they all work using SLI under windows? Just throwing it out there as I a) don't have the cash to buy 4 and b) I much rather have a fast 4870 that works in both mac and windows.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI've tried re-installing and updating every possible graphics related driver for Windows 7 i cannot for love or toffee get the bloody thing to even recognize my display. I am using a 26" tv as an external display, it works on OS X (very easily), windows XP (also very easily) and even Vista (also easily) and connecting through a DVI/HDMI connector. Why not windows 7? I've scoured the web for answers but can't find anything. Is anyone at least in the same boat as me? I really need this solved soon

I bought an Airport Extreme and installed per instructions on the Mac partition. The Extreme replaces an Express as the base unit, the express now extends the range of the network (and is now connected to my stereo system). So, the "new" network that was set up has the exact same name as the old one when it was just the Express.
Everything works fine on the mac side. When I go to my Win XP side (Boot camp) it sees the network but says it cannot connect. To put is simply, I can't remeber what I need to do. I haven't had to mess with this stuff since I set it up almost 2 years ago. Do I need to set up a new network?... I am just drawing a blank. Is keeping the same name for the "new" network part of my problem?
I heard that ATI has enabled hybrid cross fire on Windows Vista.
Does that mean you can use 2 cards that are NOT identical?
Like my 2600 XT and my 3870?
Or does hybrid just refer to graphics card and integrated graphics hybrid?
I have an airport express set up which i use on my macbook when running os x, however when i run windows 7 on the same macbook, it cant connect to the airport. It's a first gen core duo macbook, i.e. it is 802.11g , any idea why it doesnt work? This is a screen shot of the error message...
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo like an idiot I decided to give Peerguardian another chance after a two year split from it. I junked it last time because Hotmail and MSN messenger, along with Windows Updates were among the things blocked which made it useless to me. I assumed with the time passed they would have addressed this somehow by creating a way for allow lists to be easily created but they didnt. Anyway now for the issue. I completely uninstalled PeerGuardian from both my Mac's Windows partition and other PC downstairs, however the sites are still being blocked. No PG related services running in the background, and everything uninstalled seemingly the way it should have.

I have never had an issue playing with my old router but have recently upgraded to the Time Capsule and I could not connect when I was playing online. I could connect initially but when I would go into a game it just would not allow me to connect to start the game. I then plugged directly into my cable modem and was able to connect right away. Do I need to go into Time capsule and adjust a setting?

View 7 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know or have the same problem where pressing the F7, F8, F9 keys (which are previous, stop/pause, and forward) doesn't work in iTunes unless iTunes is the "active" window? I know that in OS X that if i pressed those buttons, it would do it even if I was in another application, but in the Windows 7 version it won't do it if another application is "active." Also, the same applies to the Apple Remote.

I set aside 32 GB for Windows, ran the install, loaded all the appropriate Boot Camp drivers and everything is working perfectly in Windows. I boot back to OS X to attempt to configure Parallels...
So I fired up Parallels and follow the guided instructions. However, when I get to step 2 Im not sure what I should be doing. I already have Windows on its own partition, but Parallels is asking me for a CD/DVD image. Im a little leery of putting the Win disc back in, I dont want Parallels to always want to boot from the disc. how do I tell Parallels to load Windows as a Virtual Machine off of the Boot Camp partition?
The partition Boot Camp created now appears on my Desktop in OS X as Untitled, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to change that. If I eject that volume will I still be able to Boot to Windows? Will Parallel still work?
So I finally got Windows 7 64bit installed on my MBP 2.33 machine.
However, from the guides, I should just insert my leopard disc and it should run. This is the thing, I don't know where my leopard disc is (i've been moving a lot lately due to being unemployed) and its either lost or packed away somewhere. I have a backup copy on my time machine drive and haven't tried that yet. I downloaded a 2.1 extraction and burned it to CD though. I inserted the CD and I can see in windows 7 three applications. One is Windows XP, the others are Windows Vista 32 and Windows Vista 64. I click the Vista 64, but nothing happens at all, and no drivers are isntalled.
I just bought a new MacBook pro 1 week old. I partioned my hard drive and installed a clean copy of Windows Vista Ultimate on one side. I then downloaded skype, but my internal microphone will not work. I tried everything. Can someone help me out with this issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Windows 7 X86 RC1 on my brand new early 2009 iMac and have been having the same problem every time.
Initial installation goes very smoothly, but all the trouble begins when I load the Boot Camp setup.exe from the Leopard disc.
During Boot Camp installation I get a compatibility warning about some of the Apple Boot Camp drivers working correctly with this version of Windows.
If I go ahead with the installation then what happens is I get a BSOD and then Windows becomes un-bootable. This is repeatable as it happens every single time I do the installation.
Things initially seem to work up until I load boot camp assistant from the Leopard install disc, so I'm wondering if there are other drivers available that play well with Windows 7 for my iMac that I can try? I've followed several Boot Camp tutorials for iMac with Win7 and am pretty sure I am doing everything correctly, but things just aren't working.
I used Boot Camp to put XP on my iMac. If I get Parallels, will it be able to give me access to the files that are on the currently existing XP partition?
Or will I have to re-install XP onto the Mac partition and transfer all my files from the old Boot Camp XP to the new Parallels XP?
I have a Macbook Pro 15" , C2D 2.33ghz. I have the 7100 version of Windows 7 and everything worked perfectly except for the sound.
No matter which bootcamp driver I try or even Realtek's own vista one nothing works.
I downloaded the bootcamp 2.1 drivers and everything installed correctly , including the realtek ones. All the hardware looks fine in device manager but I dont hear anything out.
Should the default be speakers? It seems that it keeps the driver as microsofts own and it doesnt say anything about realtek. Could that be the problem?
I did not try the microphone jack yet but will in a few minutes.
Even if there is a hack , Im willing to try it. What is the exact audio chipset on this model of macbook pro?
I want to know if anyone can identify compatibility issues with this set-up, it's for architecture school and it is very important that it works.

run Revit Architecture 2010
(Each of these have well-documented problems running in Boot Camp regarding broken licenses, however, no information I can find since 2008 identifies issues. Autodesk's website does specifically say each of these products are supported on OSX through Boot Camp.)
I will be saving all files to either an external HDD (these also have been documented to cause problems concerning the license in Boot Camp, I am presuming that since Autodesk now supports Boot Camp, this issue has been/will be resolved through Autodesk) or a networked storage system at the university.
OSX will be used primarily for using Adobe CS4 Design, OpenOffice, and internet browsing. Basically, pleasure use with a minimum of curriculum-related applications (except for CS4).
1) Can you boot into XP and/or Vista (using bootcamp) from the SATA ports on the system board?
2) What are the transfer rates (input and output) on these ports?
3) Does using these ports in conjuction with a Mac Pro RAID Card affect the transfer rates/latency of the drives connected to the RAID Card?
I got a brand new macbook air and want to set up an original Windows 8 DVD via bootcamp.
Problem: my external DVD needs 2 usb port connection so I want have a chance to plug in an usb drive at the same time. Any other choice to get along?

I recently bought an LG HD Recorder. After the purchase, I only then realised that it is only connectable to PC via a software called "Nero Media Home 4 Essentials". Therefore this software cannot be used on a Mac. I wrote to LG and theyconfirmed that it is only for PC and they do not intend to issue one that is to be used for Mac. It would be awesome to be able to connect Mac with the HD Recorder, as I can then stream music from iTunes etc. As such I am not able to fully use this incredible piece of equipment.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 RC and I installed all the bootcamp drivers that were in the Disc 1 that came with my mac. It installed everything else like the sound fine but I can't get the Aero feature to work.
Also, I tried installing Flash and it said it installed but when I open up Firefox, it tells me Flash is not installed.
