Apr 11, 2012Messed up big time: Ran Clean Sweep and it found THOUSANDS of EMPTY folders so I deleted them for a gain of amost 14K (whoopie). NOW NONE of the ADOBE software will OPEN. PhotoShop, After Effects, Dreamweaver (yes, I know they are old but they worked just fine till I deleted empty folders) Oh and a writing program called POWER STRUCTURE which was never an Adobe product (as far as I knew) also stopped working.
I get the "Can not open" report window on the above mentioned items. The Apple programs work fine: FCP, Motion, Sound Track, DVD Pro, iTunes all work. Screenwriter still works but the Adobe stuff-Nothing.
I use TIME MACHINE on a more than weekly basices. I went back to the end of March (before I ran CLEAN SWEEP) and tried to RESTORE. Got a little wondow that tells me:“Applications” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. So I can't RESTORE from the Time Machine.
I ran Disk Utility and Repaired Premmissions Rebooted, draged the Adobe folders to the trash and tried to reinstall from disk. I get the same "failed to open report window" when I try to run INSTALL. IN THE TRASH I tried to click on the deleted empty folders one at a time and the PUT BACK menu item is ghosted so I don't know what to put where. So what can I do besides reinstalling MAC OS? I'm running 10.6.8.

Oct 22, 2008Does anyone know of an app or utility that can compare the contents of a drive and show up duplicates of files? I ask because I have a 500GB drive with a collation of about 13 years of data that has been slapped on there from DVDs and CDs and old machines. When I got my new MBP I decided to sort the data, but it is in a massive mess and I only really need one of each file on the drive.

MacBook :: Norton Scan Keeps Stalling Just Near To Completion
Jan 15, 2009I'm running a virus/addware/etc. Scan on my Macbook, with Norton (yes I know some of you hate Norton but thats what I got back in the day so its what I'm using) and the scan keeps stopping about half an inch from completion and just sitting there. The computers fans start to run like its working too hard or something and it will not go any further. It has stopped with around 49946 files left three times in a row now. What's going on? I have tried to delete the file it keeps stopping on then it just stops in the next in line. I just got Leopard and don't want to install until I know my system is ok. On a side note what Anti-Virus is best for Macs?

MacBook Pro :: Monitor Display Not Working Fine / Horizontal Scan Lines And Black Out Occasionally
Jul 9, 2009So I had a recently purchased 17" BTO with the 7200RPM drive that worked great, but with one issue - the display would have horizontal scan lines and black out occasionally. So I called up Apple and eventually managed to get a cross-ship set up(they let me hold on to my current unit, charge my credit card and send me a second brand new 17" unit as a replacement,and then refund me for the second 17" after I send back the defective unit).
Anyway, the replacement unit looks great, but with one issue - there's a very small light dent on the bottom panel(maybe about the size of a dime). I was annoyed but don't think this is worth having to exchange, since I could probably just unscrew the panel and pop it back into place.
However, what really got to me was the fact that my replacement unit was slightly louder than my original - my original is so silent that I can't even tell it's on. However, with my replacement unit, I can hear the hard drive spinning, which is slightly annoying.
Anyway, I proceeded to restore from a time machine backup and test my replacement unit when I noticed that it would occasionally get the hard drive click + beep + freeze issue that many others who have the 7200 RPM drive seem to be facing. It's extremely annoying, and more importantly I miss the complete silence of my older unit.
My question is, while I'm still in possession of both units(which both have the exact same specs, same 7200 RPM drive, etc.), should I simply just open both up and take the silent(good) hard drive from my old unit and put it into my new one?
The click+beep freeze issue is really pissing me off, and my old unit didn't suffer from it - it's just this replacement one(doesn't make any sense).Anyway, would notice if I switched the hard drive? Would I get screwed somehow? Do they keep track of the hard drive serials or something?
I really don't want to go through the pain of sending this back, especially considering that a LOT of people are suffering from this issue, and I don't want to end up with another defective drive. I'm sick and tired of games and just want a computer that WORKS.
