I've been using ClamXav for a couple years, but after I updated my software to Mac OSX 10.6.8, it doesnt run properly and quits everytime I try to start a scan. I've uninstalled it & reinstalled it a few times & added a quarentine folder, but am not sure what to do at this point.
I've been looking around at different support forums to try to identify a solution, but am not having much luck-

Did a ClamXav scan just now and came up with three detections. All three were classified as ISHING.HEURISTICS.EMAIL.SPOOFEDDOMAIN". I deleted the files immediately.

I've been using MacTheRipper for a while to make copies of the DVD's I buy because after a while they do get scratched and they can't be used no more. Since yesterday when I insert a DVD to copy it, MacTheRipper starts scanning the DVD and in the middle of the scan a window pops up and tells me that the program has to quit unexpectedly and I can't use it after. I've tried with a couple of my DVD's and I can't copy none of them.
I installed a new program to transform .avi files, the name of the program is ffmpegx. Could it be this program causing Mactheripper to close. I uninstalled it and uninstalled Mactheripper. I reinstalled Mactheripper but it still closes.
Would anyone have a solution to this problem ?
how can you know if the files you receive do not have virus on them e.g on Skype?I do a lot of research when I'm online which exposes me to all sorts of sites so I'm always scared that my laptop might be infected! I was going to then download ClamXav just to scan the files I received, but a lot of people have said that the people who created MacKeeper are behind ClamXav which is really worrying! Is it true?

I have downloaded both CleanMyMac and ClamXav. Do the 2 programs do different jobs? If so, should I give one up for something else? I know that OS is pretty much impervious to most viruses, but I have been hit by viruses before, and those few instances have turned me into a very cautious person.

Also, I think I downloaded an old version of Messenger for Mac.
It probably have no sort of malware or viruses but assuming it may have, does the "sandboxing" technique by Apple prevent any malware from interfering with my mac. And does deleting tha old version clear any malware associated with it as well?

I use a thumbdrive in my mac often and always scan it after using it on a PC I plugged it into my computer running windows 7 and kaspersky, it detected a trojan immediately. I've been having this issue for quite sometime, but now have been quite curious. I have a habit of force quitting safari everytime i'm about to shut off the computer. I'm running a virus/addware/etc. Scan on my Macbook, with Norton (yes I know some of you hate Norton but thats what I got back in the day so its what I'm using) and the scan keeps stopping about half an inch from completion and just sitting there. The computers fans start to run like its working too hard or something and it will not go any further. It has stopped with around 49946 files left three times in a row now. What's going on? I have tried to delete the file it keeps stopping on then it just stops in the next in line. I just got Leopard and don't want to install until I know my system is ok. On a side note what Anti-Virus is best for Macs?
