OS X V10.7 Lion :: Ran CLEAN SWEEP, Adobe Software Won't Work Or Install
Apr 11, 2012
Messed up big time: Ran Clean Sweep and it found THOUSANDS of EMPTY folders so I deleted them for a gain of amost 14K (whoopie). NOW NONE of the ADOBE software will OPEN. PhotoShop, After Effects, Dreamweaver (yes, I know they are old but they worked just fine till I deleted empty folders) Oh and a writing program called POWER STRUCTURE which was never an Adobe product (as far as I knew) also stopped working.
I get the "Can not open" report window on the above mentioned items. The Apple programs work fine: FCP, Motion, Sound Track, DVD Pro, iTunes all work. Screenwriter still works but the Adobe stuff-Nothing.
I use TIME MACHINE on a more than weekly basices. I went back to the end of March (before I ran CLEAN SWEEP) and tried to RESTORE. Got a little wondow that tells me:“Applications” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. So I can't RESTORE from the Time Machine.
I ran Disk Utility and Repaired Premmissions Rebooted, draged the Adobe folders to the trash and tried to reinstall from disk. I get the same "failed to open report window" when I try to run INSTALL. IN THE TRASH I tried to click on the deleted empty folders one at a time and the PUT BACK menu item is ghosted so I don't know what to put where. So what can I do besides reinstalling MAC OS? I'm running 10.6.8.

I have a problem with the recovery partition on my SSD. There is a recovery partition. I can se it in the disk utility but it's seems like it's not working. When I boot the system with the option key I can select the recovery hd but when I do I just get a grey screen with a "forbidden" sign and the computer turns it self off a minute later.I just bought a brand new Macbook Pro 13". I swapped the internal drive to a Samsung 830 SSD but the only way i could get it to boot was to clone the original disk to my new SSD, otherwise the computer couldn't find the drive.
It just booted up with the same grey screen with the "forbidden" sign just like when i now try to boot into the recovery HD.I made a bootstick with the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0 but it can't boot from that one either. I even made it on a different computer running Lion with a working Recovery HD.I also tried to boot from a Lion dvd (and usb) I made from the image I got from the appstore but of course, the same grey sceen appears. The question now is; how do I get a working Recovery HD in Lion so I can make a clean install? The system is running fine with the clone from the original disk but I want that Recovery HD.

Does anyone know of an app or utility that can compare the contents of a drive and show up duplicates of files? I ask because I have a 500GB drive with a collation of about 13 years of data that has been slapped on there from DVDs and CDs and old machines. When I got my new MBP I decided to sort the data, but it is in a massive mess and I only really need one of each file on the drive.

I currently have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8. It has 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo 2 & 8GB of DDR3 RAM. I want to upgrade to Lion, but I am worried that my Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium CS4 will not be compatiable with that version. Can anyone verified that this will work?

I recently did a clean install of OS X Lion 10.7 on my Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook (13" Late 2006 model). Since then I have experiencing significant instability with the OS. It has crashed several times now, and crashes every time I try to update the OS software or use Time Machine. Also, the fan is running at a high speed at all times. I've read that there is some preliminary stuff the OS has to do once installed that may take a while. Could this be the source of this instability? I'm confident that updating the OS would be beneficial, but it crashes every time I try to do so.

I bought my MacBook Pro in January and quickly discovered that most Adobe products don't work on Lion. I'm looking to sell and have a prospective buyer when I realized that I wasn't sure how to do a clean install of Lion for a potential buyer. Do I need to buy a copy of Lion from App store in order to do a clean install for a new buyer? Is there a way to clean the HD of my user profile and info without reinstalling Lion, or do I need to do a clean install? How do I do a clean install if necessary?

Mid 2009 MBP here. Original disk was failing so I replaced it with a Seagate Momentus XT and Lion refused to install. Formatted the drive correctly and made sure it was GUID partition. Even went as far as removing a memory module because I had heard that having more than 2 Gigs could cause issues during installation. Also made sure that the drive had the latest firmware.
Flash forward and I returned the drive and got a Western Digital Scorpio Black and have the same problem: Stuck at 21 minutes.
Currently installing with a 10.7.3 USB drive. I've tried numerous times with a 10.7.0 disk as well as the original Snow Leopard restore discs that came with the machine. Is the mid 2009 just incompatible with these drives?

how to prepare for a "clean install" of Mountain Lion when it comes out. However, it's clean in theory because I want to be able to have my personal files and programs ready for ML but I am afraid for any left-overs from deleted apps since I tend to install & uninstall them for test drive purposes.

I upgraded to Lion after its release and ever since then my wifi has been driving me crazy. The wifi disconnects, and when I click on my network I get the error that the connection timed out. I'm always forced to turn the wifi off and then back on.It happened a ton, and consistently. It's extremely frustrating especially when I'm in the middle of a movie on my Apple TV and my iMac loses its internet and interrupts the show. Sometimes it happens three or more times during one show.So I decided to do a clean install of Lion. I made sure all my important documents were on my Hard Drive and even wrote a list out of every application that I use regularly. Then I completely reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Lion.

I followed instructions from Apple and reformated a second boot drive with GUID partitions, loaded my Snow Leopard OS and updated to the last version. Downloaded Lion and installed, set this second HDD as the new boot drive and waited - one monitor came up but then nothing happened for so long I went away. This has happened three times now and while I'm not watching my MacPro Xenon 8 core reboots from the Snow Leopard drive..

This nonsense: To upgrade your Mac to OS X Lion, you must be running OS X Snow Leopard. If you have OS X v10.5 Leopard, purchase OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard now and install it on your Mac. Then buy OS X Lion as a digital download from the Mac App Store- seems very very un-apple.
So let me get this straight: I have to install an outdated OS (snow Leopard) in order to install Lion. ???
Remember when an OS was self contained, not an add-on upgrade feature?
I am puzzled- I would simply like to boot my mac pro from leopard (current os), and install LION on a newly placed, freshly formatted internal hard drive on same computer. Why would i need to have the intermediary step?
The folks at apple store couldn't answer- even the genius folk weren't sure- dissappointing at best-

I had a problem with my Macbook pro for some unknown reason my HDD crashed and stopped working, so I had to replace it, with a new one. Fortunately I have a 1TB My Passport Time Machine Backup that contains all my data. I had spent hours to reintsall Snow leopard, update the machine and then upgrade to Lion. The only thing now I need to do is to restore all my data. can I restore my Apps, Music, Video, my sketch up drawings and projects? or am I forced to repurchase my Apps and media?

I had the hard drive replaced in in my mid 2009 17" MacBook pro. After the clean install of lion I migrated my data from time machine (lion) to the new clean partition.. Upon completion the machine is unresponsive. The progress wheel turning for 10 minutes. I force quit and restart to kernel panic. I have been through this 3 times same sequence of events same results.
