Intel Mac :: Web Browser Keeps Locking While Web Browsing
Jul 3, 2012
I cannot look at any website that has a lot of photos for too long without the mac locking up. I have tried Google chrome with the same results as Safari. I looked on the forums and saw a flush cache command through terminal and tried that with no luck. I don't know if there is anything like the windows task manager to just kill the one app without rebooting.

I'm trying to put a password on a few pages documents using the 10.5.8 operating system. I realize it's sort of out of date, so that could be the problem. But i've been watching some videos that say to click on inspector, then the blank page, and then check the box that says 'require a password.' Only thing is that I don't see that box to check at the bottom of inspector. Â

IMAC very slow, locking up and not booting unless powered down and unplugged. (IMAC OS X 10.6.8 2.5Ghz Intel core) I have performed a detailed HW test twice with no errors and run the disk drive utility with no errors. The computer generally is slow and can spend 3 – 5 minutes with the spinning color wheel between activities. After the computer is fully powered off and plugged it seems to boot normally and work for awhile but then all of the symptoms return. Should I reload the operating system? Today when I booted the machine funny color lines whent across the screen prior to slowly booting.Â
I do have parental controls set which automatically log my daughter off at 930pm when she tried to log in this morning the spinning color wheel ran and ran I could not get the machine to boot by hitting the power button. I need to fully unplug the machine to get it booted. I have also performed all of the software updates. Another strange thing occurred 2 days ago. The machine was locked up and the fan was running at full speed. I had to again power down and unplug it to get it back to life.

When browsing the web, the iMac can sometimes take ages to bring up a page. Sometimes I disconnect from wireless internet and then reconnect again. iMac is new to me but before I had a windows laptop and that was fine with the wireless internet.

Basically, my iMac can't load [URL] on Firefox, Chrome and safari. Â
It first happened when I use the firefox address bar to google something. The web page didn't load and said "The connection was reset: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.", Then I try it on Chrome to go to google.com. The web page didn't load and said "No Data received: Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data."Â Then I try it on Safari. The web page didn't load and said
"Safari cant open the page [URL] because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again."

While in Safari, I typed in internet expoler thinking I would be getting that browser to use.Immediately the screen said I won a prize and all I needed to do was click to answer a quick survey. I thought something was no right so I hit the back arrow to bcak out and a box came up saying " are you sure you wnat to leave" Lomg story short this bug will not let me exit Safari, all the options are greyed out ( like empty cache, etc.) I was able to force quit, and reboot computer, whne I went back to safari I got the same take this survey for a prize script and the only way out was to force quit.

I've been attempting to install an ftp browser and I keep getting an error message that says "You need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the internet". However, I am connected to the internet! I've attempted to access the Java preferences, but I get the same error with a subtext that reads "to install a Java runtime, open Java preferences again." Again, I've attempted to reopen Java preferences only to find the same error message and subtext.
