I would like to switch completely to Mac but I have a lot of old Fortran 77 programs that I still use & they work fine on Windows. Couple of problems though. They were written (by me & others) pre-USB and hence, write to parallel port which are harder to find on printers or computers. Do newer Fortran compilers write to USB ports? There will also be issues with ASCII character & screen writing. I have sources including library sources. Since I have not programmed for about 20 years, I would like to find someone who could do the conversions for me under contract? Have tried Windows people without success. Think I need someone familiar with Apple and Fortran.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a few games i'd like to play using my mac. At the moment i cannot afford boot camp or anything like that so i have to use os x. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am getting my first MacBook Pro tomorrow, and i am just curious as to how i could run Windows only software on it. It will only be a couple of games and music software, but i dont have the OSX version, and i dont really want to buy a new version. I'd rather get a free program that does the same thing as Paralells, but if there is any other paid software that is reliable id like to know.

I recently bought a macbook pro and need to run some windows programs for work. Is it possible to start my mac and have it go the screen where I can pick either mac or windows for it to start in? I know I can default to one or the other and I know I can hit the option key when starting and get it to the choice screen - I was just hoping I could start the mac and have it go to the choice screen and then I have the option of choosing which op sys I need.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a fall 2008 model macbook, 2.4 GHz 4GB ram, etc. I run windows XP SP3 on bootcamp, with a fat32 partition. I believe the external harddrive I run games from is also fat32 formatted.
I've had enough problems with transferring files over 4GB that i've decided to attempt to convert from fat32 to ntfs. I'd like to do it while on my windows partition, with the CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS in the command prompt. What precautions should I take before I attempt this? How difficult will it be to also convert my external drive to ntfs? Will anything be deleted in the process? Will I still be able to use parallels?

I've bought my 13" MBP (love it) but need to dual boot to run some programs, so I bought the Windows 7 Prof 64bit Upgrade. Now... because it's the upgrade version do I need to have a previous version of a Windows OS installed before I can upgrade or can I install straight away? Another question, at some point I'm tempted to upgrade to the 500gb Momentus XT. Will my Windows 7 disk be okay for multiple installs?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhy does the red button in windows' top left corner have different functionality in different programs? For instance in Messages, it closes the window but leaves the program running. In Reminders, however, it closes the window and the program and the same happens, for instance, in Disk Utility.
I am surprised that OS X-specific programs behave differently like this.

I have a box of old 2DD 720 KB floppies containing sound banks for a 1991 synthesizer. I have looked in vain for a USB floppy disk drive that will read the MIDI files and transfer them to my desktop so I can use them in Logic 8. Problem is.... NO ONE really seems to give ALL of the info I need. Some drives do not say they are Mac-compatible; most say nada or dance around it. Others say HD disks only. The Amazon customer reviews are similarly iffy. This is a one-time need, but I want to get it right.
Do any of you know of a USB floppy drive that will really do this job?
