MacBook Pro :: Remove Specific Network From List Of Airport Networks?
Jul 16, 2010When I click the Airport Networks icon in the menu bar (top right), my airport detects all the available networks. It lists some networks which are not mine and don't even require a password. Is there some way to remove these specific networks from the list, and so they don't get detected again? (I don't want to click by mistake a network that's not mine)

Feb 1, 2012Today when I turned on my iMac, it went to the login screen and then something odd happened. I saw a second account on the login list that i never made. It is called "Other: and has an icon with lines and spheres (like a networking icon). Also when I click on it, it asks for a name and password.I logged into account and went straight to System Preferences ->Accounts and there is no "Other" in the list of accounts there on the left.just my account. Is this a virus or have I been hacked? Or is this is bug?

I tried joining one of the others once when mine was down, and now my computer regularly attempts to join that one when ever it wakes up. Can I make it forget to join that network, or make mine its first preference?

Mar 21, 2012I see another unsecured wifi network (D Link) on my list. As I have recently replaced an old modem router (D link) with a new fancy one (wireless gateway), I am wondering if this is somehow still attached to my computer. The D link wifi unsecured network has a different IP address than my newly formed secure wifi network's IP address.Also - if I turn my wifi off (regardless of if I am on the dlink or my new secured wifi) I can still watch netflix etc. on my tv from living room which tells me the the wifi is still on. Why is this so?Does my Mac have two IP addresses or is that D link someone elses?

Intel Mac :: Unable To Create 2 Networks?
Jun 8, 2012Here on my office we have 3 macs, 1 wireless router and 1 gigabit lan switch.My wireless router only have 100mbps ports and I need a little more speed on my network.So I want to use my wireless router only as internet via Airport and my gigabit lan as file sharing via gigabit connection. I can disable the network features on my wireless router so the macs can't see each other on the wireless connection.The problem is that i can't make them work on the gigabit switch. I need to put some static ips on the macs and I don't know what to put on the default gateway because the gigabit switch doesn't have an IP, its a SWITCH 08P 10/100/1000 D-LINK DGS-1008D. what ips and gateways should I put on my network connection? PS: I tried putting my wireless router via cable on my gigabit switch but it limited my gigabit switch to 100mbps and started to slow my network traffic.

Hardware :: Network Printer - No Model Number In List
Dec 5, 2009I am trying to get G5 (10.4) to use a network printer MP160 connected to a windows XP machine.
This is what I have done so far: Downloaded and installed the latest MP160 printer package for the Mac. Plugged the MP160 directly into the Mac USB port, the printer is instantly recognised and is installed as the default printer. It prints just fine. This leads me to believe the MP160 driver exists in the Mac. Now I transfer the printer to the XP. Using another (wireless) networked windows laptop I have no problem printing to the XP printer so that shows the sharing is working correctly. At the Mac I open printer setup. I then add the printer, selecting it, where I see it listed on the XP machine in (mac) Windows Printing/Network Neighbourhood. The printer name is seen just as it is on the XP.
Now the point it all goes wrong. During the setup, the utility ask me to select the printer model I want to add from a list it displays under the canon group of drivers. No matter what I do the list cannot be updated or amended to include the MP160 model. The BJ gimp drivers don't appear to support the MP160. I get the print job message "Gimp printing.....20%" and various values depending on the model selected and eventually, "NT status network bad name error". The generic printer driver returns the same error. I have tried just about every type of connection using the setup utility and localhost 631 but I always end up at the same point, not being able to select the model. There are no networking issues as far as I can see. The Mac can see and use shared files on the windows machines.
OS X Server :: Forced Shutdown Cause - 127 (No Access On Network List)
Apr 4, 2008My G4 xserve has shutdown for the second time. The console shows: Forced Shutdown cause - 127. It then restarted. I cannot access it on my network list from any of the PCs this may be unrelated.

May 6, 2009I'm having some trouble adding network printers in Tiger. If I open the print&fax window and then click on the "+" sign to add printers, nothing comes up. I thought a new screen was supposed to pop up, but nothing happens. If I try to print something from Word or Excel and select "add printer" in the print menu, also nothing happens. I do find a list of "bonjour printers", but I'm not sure how this can help me. So in the end it seems I can't add any printers at all, and thus not print.

MacBook Pro :: (17" 2.4 Intel) - Wifi Networks Forgotten After Sleep/restarts?
Apr 12, 2012I made the mistake of upgrading (funny word for what I got) to Lion, and ever since, I've had numerous issues with my trusty MacBookPro (2008, 2.4 ghz, 17"). The latest problem has been severly annoying though, and I just would like to see if any of you have some tips I could try out. Basically, every single time I close down the lid to put my computer to sleep, or even after it goes to sleep on it's own, when I go to wake my computer, it no longer is connected to my wi-fi network, and for a period of 2-5 minutes, is acts like it is searching for networks. When this exercise is over, I can use the pull down menu brought up by clicking on the wifi icon to select my network and the computer re-connects. I saw that Apple released an update for 2011 MacBookPro's that had this same issue, and this made the problem even more irritating to me since they failed to address those of us who have older computers that have the same issue. I have tried erasing all known network in the network preferences window using the plus and minus buttons, and then re-adding my network. That didn't work.

Jul 5, 2012I have a MacPro Early 2009, 2 ethernet ports.Ethernet 1 is connected to the LAN and Ethernet 2 is connected directly to a SSL Matrix console (an audio mixer), whom driver needs the used ethernet port to be first of the list in the Network connections list in System Preferences.So when I browse internet I can't use the Matrix's software, and vice versa.I had to create 2 different network positions to browse internet and to work with SSL Matrix, one with Eth 1 first place, another one with Eth 2 first place, and I always have to swap positions.Is there a way to force OSX to use by default the 2nd connection of the list for internet access?

Jun 25, 2012PeerGuardian appears to be causing kernel panic and my iMac to continuously srash, and yet I cannot find it to uninstall - Spotlight yields no results at all, and I have removed it from login items under System Preferences / Accounts. I want to remove PeerGuardian completely to see if this resolves the kernel panic but don't see (a) how I can, given that I can't find it anywhere and/or (b) how it can be causing a kernel panic if I can't find it anywhere!

IMac (Intel) :: No Apple Logo Appears During Startup
Aug 28, 2014I am fixing this 2007 iMac for free for an autistic child. Apparently, changing computers for someone that is autistic isn't ideal. I don't have the history with this iMac, just that it isn't working. They supposedly did have the hard drive replaced? It sounds like a dvd is inside it when it starts up, could be the installation dvd?Either way, I have not seen it before where the Apple logo refuses to show on the start up screen. It just stays gray.
1. I've tried zapping the PRAM. Didn't have any changes.
2. I tried starting up in safe mode, but getting passed the apple logo is required for that
3. I tried single user mode, but getting passed the apple logo is required for that
4. I tried holding the c key to start up off of the dvd, nothing happens
5. I tried holding the mouse button (and cmd, opt, f, o) to manually eject the dvd during start-up.

Apr 15, 2012I have a mid-2011 IMac running Lion 10.7.3. From the time I got it, last Sept., it has said it has a problem and has to shut-down and restart. Then a long report appears with all the codes and apps. listed to be sent to Apple.This was first happening ever 3-4 wee, then every 2-3 weeks, and lately I had 2 in one day. I always add in the comments section that I would like to know what is going on, but never get any feedback, can't read the code well enough, but CPU 2 seems to show up. aI talked to Applecare last week and got a problem munber. The rep. says those reports are used by tech services to see what changes to make, and not tied to individual machines. I am concerned that I may have a lemon that will give out after my Applecare expires. I'm not anxious for a replacement or having the screen pulled to get inside to repair it. I've got it set up too well to risk it.
