Intel Mac :: Restarting In The Middle Of Software Update?
Jun 20, 2012Today I downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo 10.7.4 from the apple website. I opened it up and it got to about half way through installation before a grey hue dropped down on my screen and a message appeared "Your computer needs to restart". After restarting, I got a error message saying that my computer had to shut down due to issues and to submit a bug report to apple. I decided to give it another go and the exact same thing happened

Dec 7, 2014I recently had to reformat my iMac because it was restarting constantly and it kept freezing too. After a reformat, I installed a few programs. Skype, Microsoft Office 2010, VLC, Plex Home Theatre, Plex Media Server, an uTorrent.Â
My computer restarted randomly again, twice :-( I included the crash report below if it is useful.Â

Mar 21, 2012I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix for my iMac 21.5" which seems to disable the onboard sound upon restarting?Â
I understand that this can be remedied by resetting the SMC but I cannot be expected to do this each and every time the machine is restarted. Is there any way I can get it to work permanently?Â
Upon restarting the volume icon is greyed out, and pressing the volume up/down keys bring up the volume box with a "no entry" sign underneath the icon. I've tried unplugging and replugging the external speakers to no avail, and this occurs with the internal speakers also. I've checked the correct device is selected in the volume settings and the optical output is not switched on.

Mar 30, 2012I hate in Lion how when I restart my computer, all of the applications I had open before reopen. Can I turn that off? It takes start up forever. I've seen how to uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and reopening apps" and I've uncheck that, but it doesn't work for this case. I just want to start up like normal and I pick the apps I want to open at the time

Jun 26, 2014my work computer (Windows), but my 2012 iMac that I've had for 2 years has worked flawlessly up until recently. A few days ago it started taking forever to display files in finder. I had to keep relaunching, and it would freeze. I tried the workaround that was posted here but that didn't work either. It went away for a few days, but last night it really came back with a vengeance. The relaunch finder trick only showed the current folder, while navigating to other folders would simply show the loading icon forever. Â
Also, my iMac was shutdown for over an entire day yesterday, and when I turned it on the " Your computer restarted because of a problem". came up. I've never experienced this problem before, but after 3-4 tries it finally logged in to the Home screen. This is when I noticed the above (finder problems) returning from a few days ago after being absent. The finder issues continued, so I restarted the mac, and it just kept cycling over and over (reboot, try to load, auto-reboot, etc.).
Is this an issue with the HDD? I did a disk utility check the other day and it said everything was in great shape.

May 18, 2012IMac 20" intel core duo, 2G running leopard 10.5.8. Mac will turn off randomly and won't start again unless its left for a while, it's no getting hot (that I can detect). So far I have reset the SMC, run the AHT which came up with nothing, tried another power lead, tried it in different power outlets.

I'm doing my best to adapt to this new different OS and so far have found some things more user friendly but others ? I've more or less given up on those as Mac doesn't seem to do those things. Anyway, my immediate problem is this goddamned frustrating situation when I try to re-activate the comp' after waking it from 'sleep'. Jul 21, 2009Today my Mac was running fine and I rebooted. When it came to the bootup (gray screen) screen, it was there for about 1 minute and it keeps restarting.
I popped the Mac OS X DVD in and am repairing permissions as I type this. It says 44 minutes remaining. There is a long list of permission issues. Could this fix the problem?
I also tried a Disk Repair, but it said that Macintosh HD is OK.
I really don't want to do an Archive and Install (hopefully the permissions repair will work). But if I do, will this fix it? Will it keep all my files? Settings?

Feb 6, 2010My macbook keeps restarting after the chimes. I forgot my password so I tried to "hack" a new admin account by putting it in single user mode and then entering the command : /sbin/mount -uw / and when I entered the 2nd command : rm /var/db/.applesetupdone it didn't work. When I tried to restart my MAC it kept going to the start up screen and just keeps on restarting over and over again.

Jun 15, 2010The restart always occurs when I am browsing and interacting with ebay on any browser (tested on FireFox, Safari, and Chrome with a restart occurring in all 3) The screen slowly gets covered by a light grey over layer and displays a message telling me that there has been a problem and that I need to hold down the power button to restart my macbook. this has been happening to me for the past 3 weeks and I can't stand it anymore.
Any suggestion on how I might be able to find a solution to the issue? Also, has this happened to anyone else out there? I am running Snow Leopard 10.6 on a 2009 macbook.
