I have my data saved on an external hard drive (OS 10.7) as I sold my previous Mac and am thinking about buying a power pc iMac using Leopard - does anyone know whether this will be able to open and transfer my data to the older Mac?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?

I would like to restore my OS to 10.7.2 after the upgrade to 10.7.3. I have time machine, and backups before and after the fatal update. But I worked between and created files so I do not want to completely restore my system but only the OS / system part.

I have 2 drives on my iMac but only one is showing up..how can I get them both to back up? The one that is getting backed up is from my old laptop, and I really don't need it as most of the data is in my newer iMac drive. If necessary, I would like to switch the back up to the newer system.

I know this is a common issue and I've read all the other posts and tried everything, but time machine still won't back up. I need help figuring out if there's anything I can do, or if I need a bigger back up disk. If so, how big?Â
I have deleted old backups, excluded unnecessary files, and cleaned out folders. It says 157.46GB available of 159.7GB; but when it backs up it says it requires 188.30GB but only 157.46GB are available. Â

I am non-technical! Following many months of successful automatic back-ups to an external hard disc I find that Time Machine had failed to back-up data since October 2011 for no apparent reason that I am aware. The last file name on the backup hard disc had a file name of the date and time with a suffix '.inprogress' (though the little symbol in the top right corner of the screen did not indicate activity). I dragged and dropped this file in Trash and went through the 'Repair' process for the back-up disc though this process did not indicate that there was a fault with the backup disc. Then restarted the iMac and clicked on Start Backup Now. The process started as normal but after a few moments I got the message 'The Backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disc'. Again a '.inprogress' file was created on the backup hard drive. The backup hard disc is under 10% used.

I wanted a clean install of Lion, so I copied over my iTunes library, saved my Mail as an mbox file, and moved all of my critical files to an external drive. But I completely forgot to save my iPhoto library. I have been running Time Machine for almost a year and I see that I have the file still on my NAS but it says I don't have the permissions to open it up. I can only open Time Machine backups since I reinstalled Lion. I have kept the same machine name and, I believe, username. It did not create a different Time Machine backup--there are still the same three files for the three different computers I am running Time Machine on. Is there any way I can restore my iPhoto library from the old Time Machine backup?Â

When I try to open Time Machine nothing happens. I have a clone of my system but can't copy time machine to the applications folder because the system won't permit it because it is used by the OS. How do I restore time machine in OS X Lion. Tried the usual things like restarting.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI thought I could use a 1TB External drive to back up my 320GB startup disk, and use the rest of the empty 680GB for storage. However, Time Machine started taking up 600GB of spaceon the External drive! I was like "What the heck!?" So I put unwanted Time Machine Backups in the trash and emptied it. Nothing, they're stuck there now.Â
I'm planning on wiping the disk clean and starting over, but for future reference is there a proper way to delete Time Machine Backups? Surely there must be; (I mean, who would have known Time Machine would take up MORE SPACE than the drive it's backing up in the first place?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSomething went wrong on my mac last week. I noticed that backup couldn't complete so I restarted. Then I could no longer login to my main account (admin), but could login to my daughter and wife's managed account and could create a new admin account. I assumed this was a key chain issue so gave up trying to access and decided to restore from time machine. 2 restores (72 hrs each) and the mac will not boot after the restore. I have the ever spinning pin wheel for 24 hrs already. What can I do to get all my docs back? I don't think it's a hard drive issue (1.5TB) installed almost 6 mths ago.

When I got there I realized that she was also running windows. I went into the Mac and didn't touch windows. I connected the external hard drive although it was not working so I turned on time machine and tried to use this although didn't have time to set up time capsule so I just cancelled it and shut it. She turned her Mac on this morning and said that windows had completely disappeared! She took it to her local computer store, not an apple store, and was told that because time machine had been turned on and off that windows and the hard drive associated with it had all been wiped!!

Time Machine on my iMac won't open iPhoto. It goes to desktop screen automatically. When I select User/Picture/Iphoto library it only brings up the preview page with the size of the folder. I can't get into the library to look for lost photos.

I use a LACIE external hard drive to back up via Time Machine. I am having problems backing up, the backup starts and goes through 'prepare items' and then starts to back up, then stops about a quarter of the way through to 'clean up' and then 'fails'Â Â I used the Time Machine Buddy and the error message is :Â Error (-36) NO Copying/Applications/Utilities/JavaÂ

This morning I turned on TimeMachine (I do a weekly back up) and it showed a back up would occur within the hour. When I went back to look an hour later it was set on off. I turned it back on and within a minute it turned itself off. I have a lot of memory available on my standalone hard drive so what the heck is up with this shutting itself off?

Time Machine no longer works for me. Apparently the volume of stuff it wants to back up is too large for the partition devoted to it (on an external hard drive). But I can't choose the exclude anything because the Options button in Time Machine Prefs is greyed out. I've deleted the TimeMachine .plist file, and restarted, but no go. And I haven't found anything to help either here or on the larger web

I saved my iphoto library to an external hard drive because my memory on my macbook was almost full. That hard drive became corrupt and now I can't get anything off it. I have a time machine and I was wondering how I restore my iphoto library and save it to an external drive because I do not have enough room on my laptop so I can't restore it there. Also how do I look at the different version to find the latest version of the iphoto library before it was deleted.Â

Looking at my console log I see that my computer is being woken up repeatedly by Time Machine.Since I don't backup every hour this seems to be a wasteful interruption to Sleep Mode, and effectively disables it; not something I want. The console message I see is "Not starting Time Machine backup after wake"..Is there a parm that I can set somewhere to prevent this? I have "Don't wake for network access" set but that seems to affect incoming rather than internally
