Intel Mac :: Getting Maximum Processor Temperature?
Apr 28, 2012
what are the maximum operating temperatures for the various computer components such as the processor diode, processor heatsink, the hard drive? I have my iMac in a medium sized enclosed area which does not allow for air flow.

Does anyone know the maximum operating temperature inside the new 27-inch iMac? I've read that they shouldn't be operated beyond 35 degrees Celsius [95 degrees F]. But that's the ambient temperature, not the computer's internal temperature.
I ask this because I have been running iStat for years. It monitors various things, including internal temperature. I always keep an eye on this during warm days, even when I have the air-conditioning on. So it would be good to know the maximum temperature.

Recently I bought a MacBook Pro 13", once I open it, it starts with 40C processor temperature, hitting 70 after sometime and stays there, and when I run an application it hits 80-90C? Is this normal! Whats the maximum temperature of my 2.53 processor!

I just purchased my first Mac computer and I was shocked to see the results of a stress test. I get a maximum temperature of 103C on the core diodes for my P7570 (apparently the OEM version of the P8400) before the fan starts to rev up (about 1-2 minutes). This effect is the same in both Windows 7 RC1 (64-bit) and Snow Leopard. Once the fans have started to reach ~4000 RPM the temperatures stabilize at ~90C. As the maximum diode temperature for the CPU is 105C I don't think this is a desired behavior. Ironically, even with such a high diode temperature, the notebook is not hot to touch and all other temperatures are fine (CPU temperature reaches a maximum of 84C). If I force the fan speed with smcFanControl this doesn't happen.

I noticed that iStat and Temperature Monitor report different temperatures for the same readings on my G5 Powermac Dual Processor System. For example as I am writing this Temperature Monitor is saying My CPU A is 46.8C and CPU B is 46.7C. In iStat it says CPU A is 55C and CPU B is 54C. Which is right!?

I apologists straight away if this have been covered recently, but i need to ask.I have MacBook with Intel Core Due Processor, 2 GB ram. What is the average temperature CPU temperature for standard usage ( I know that standard usage is very arbitrary, and by this I assume safari, iTunes and let say Pages to be the only major apps running ).I use iStat pro widget and according to it my CPU temperature is 55*C. Is this too high? Lately the fan has been turning on more recently almost without any apps running so I think that there might be some hardware problem. I ran HardwareTest it found nothing.
The macbook is 2 yrs old. Do i need to get it cleaned or is there something else I should be worrying about?

I have recently purchased a macbook pro. I have added an aol email account to my mail, which is great but although i can receive emails, I am unable to send them. I get the message Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator. I have checked the settings and the connection doctor and everything is fine.If I need to send email i have to log ito my aol account via safari, but I would much rather use the mail that is set upon my mac.

I have this problem: it seems that HD fan never increase, despite of high temperature.
Machine is:
Imac 21,5 mid 2011
I7 from online store
1 TB HD as it comes from the store
added an SDD, Vertex 3, not removed the CDROM, its installed on its native port.
The SSD has Lion installed and its boot disk. Its temperature seems always 30°C, it never changes
The HD temperature reached 60 °C, but the HD fan never went up from its minimal 1100
So I suspect that the SMC thinks that the temperature to use to start the fan is 30°C, wich is wrong, and completely ignore the mechanical HD, wich I worried will burn out soon.
Already resetted SMC, PRAM, done the hardware test even extended, no problems.
I want a solution wich links the HD fan to the original HD temp as it should.
Is it possible? I dont have any third party SMC software and I dont want them.

Before I tear apart my iMac, it may just be faster to ask. I am considering simply upgrading the processor on my 2009 iMac instead of purchasing a newer model. Of coure the newer models could potentially have a different motherboard, mostly to support the Thunderbolt but if the differences between new and my 2009 model are not so significant, then a CPU upgrade may be more intelligent.
My current specs are as follows: Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac11,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 8 GB Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s Boot ROM Version: IM111.0034.B02 SMC Version (system): 1.54f36 Question is, without looking, is this a "socketed" model where I can simply plug a new chip in? Of course I can open my system up and see, but that will include "down time" and I prefer to avoid as much as possible. Just as with most "Winblows" systems and MBs, the chips are socketed and can easily be replaced where the MBs are compatible. Mac can't be all that much harder, but I can't say I have ever seen a MAC CPU upgrade for sale.

My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

if it was possible to swap out the first intel processors with the newer ones the imacs are coming with. i found this info and mainly looks just as tricky as open heart surgery to risk my imac doing, and thats just replacing the processor itself.
