Intel Mac :: 27" With I7 Intel Processor Does Not Boot
Jun 13, 2012
My iMac was working perfectly till two days ago, I shut it down normally, but haven't been able to start it since then. When I press the start button I can hear the HD and fans working, and also the USB ports are powered, but screen keeps black and no boot tone.
Since I have a bluetooth keyboard, I am not able to start in safe mode..
My 5 year old iMac has a 2.16 GHz Intel Duo Core 2 Processor with 1 GB of Ram. I'm running OS X 6.8 and am told that I can't upgrade to OS X 7.My only connection to the internet is through a MobileMe AirPort. I have not ethernet or firewire connection.Without OS X 7, I can't access iCloud. How do I stay connected to the internet after June 30, 2012 when MobileMe is discontinued?
Are the Mac intel processors compatable with a PC.In other words can an Intel processor in a PC motherboard capable of the same spec's of a mac motherboard be a drop in replacement?
Would it be possible to take the Intel processor out of my Macbook Pro (2.26) and replace it with a 2.8 Intel from a Dell Dimension 4600? I don't plan on doing this anytime soon, I just wondered if it was possible because they are both intels. Are there different dimensions for each processor and if there is
I have an iMac Power PC G5, OS X, version 10.5.8. I am running into problems of installing programs, downloads and even Mac OS X Snow Leopard, because they are requiring an Intel processor. I do not know if Intel can even be installed. Is it possible to install Intel on my iMac?
what are the maximum operating temperatures for the various computer components such as the processor diode, processor heatsink, the hard drive? I have my iMac in a medium sized enclosed area which does not allow for air flow.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.2)
Before I tear apart my iMac, it may just be faster to ask. I am considering simply upgrading the processor on my 2009 iMac instead of purchasing a newer model. Of coure the newer models could potentially have a different motherboard, mostly to support the Thunderbolt but if the differences between new and my 2009 model are not so significant, then a CPU upgrade may be more intelligent.
My current specs are as follows: Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac11,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 8 GB Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s Boot ROM Version: IM111.0034.B02 SMC Version (system): 1.54f36 Question is, without looking, is this a "socketed" model where I can simply plug a new chip in? Of course I can open my system up and see, but that will include "down time" and I prefer to avoid as much as possible. Just as with most "Winblows" systems and MBs, the chips are socketed and can easily be replaced where the MBs are compatible. Mac can't be all that much harder, but I can't say I have ever seen a MAC CPU upgrade for sale.
Info: Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.2), Remote Apple Server install image
if it was possible to swap out the first intel processors with the newer ones the imacs are coming with. i found this info and mainly looks just as tricky as open heart surgery to risk my imac doing, and thats just replacing the processor itself.
the Westmere-EP vs. The i7-980X? It looks as though the Westmere-EP is pretty much identical to the i7-980X so why use the Westmere in the Mac Pro vs the i7http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=47917,47932,Name1. Intel Xeon Processor W3680 (12M Cache, 3.33 GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel QPI)2. Intel Core™ i7-980X Processor Extreme Edition (12M Cache, 3.33 GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel QPI)
im looking for a was to run a few pc programs on my old power mac g5, is running os x 1.4 and IS NOT an intel mac, i cant seem to find an aplication that will allow me to do this, i will happily upgrade my os if need be,
I have a Power Mac G5 2.0 GHZ 1 TB and 250GB Hard Drive, 4 GB of Ram Running 10.5.8 Leopard. Now i bougth this mac on ebay to EDIT VIDEOS AND PICTURES. BUT, i cant do either because all the editing software requires snow leopard or higher. the Mac doesnt even have I Movie, Garage Band. To get any sort of editing software i need snow leopard. To get snow leopard i have to have an Intel Based Processor MINE ISN'T INTEL. So pretty much i have NO WAYS to edit or create videos.
Info: PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), 2.0 GHZ, 1.2 TB.
I have an iMac G5 (circa 2005) with a non intel processor, I recently purchased Snow Leopard to update this, however it advised I need an Intel Processor to install Snow Leopard. Is there a way of getting round this, the main reason being is I want to use the Magic Trackpad - but ive been told this will only run on Snow Leopard OSX? If anyone could answer this asap I would be grateful, today is the last day I can take back Snow Leopard and the Magic Trackpad to the Apple Store for a refund.
I recently purchased a Mac Pro and it's awesome. BUT I wanted to know is it possible to swap out the processors for maybe 2 quad cores or even 2 3.0 GHz processors and if so, how would you do it? Is this possible? (pictures of the motherboard are attached)
My current computer has an Intel Pentium 4 CPU Processor at 3.00GHz, but it is antagonizingly slow. If it is at 3GHz, why would it be running so slowly? It also only has 512mb of RAM...which might do it as well...Is it because the RAM is so little as well as the old processor?
Apple keep telling me I need to update to icloud but I'm not sure if Lion will work on my Mac. I've upgraded to snow leopard which seems to have knackered my .me or .mac account (whatever it's called now), so I don't seem to have any option but to upgrade to Lion if I every want to see my emails again. Apple say I must have a Intel Core 2 processor for Lion to work. at least I think that's what they say. I have a mac book pro, 2006 with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, can I update to Lion?
OS X 10.4.3 IMAC Intel Core Duo. I backed up my HD on an external drive so I could upgrade to Snow Leopard. I wanted to test that I could boot from the external drive and selected it as my start up drive. When I did a restart I got the Apple and the turning gear and then suddenly a black screen with this on it: "May 28 22:23:11 Launched:com.apple.nibindd:respawning too quickly throttling, exited system abnormally bad system call too many failures in succession I have no name!"
I tried several dozen times with no luck. I think when I made the copy of my HD on the external HD I may have neglected to make it "bootable" (moving too quickly). My internal CDROM is busted so I use an external CDROM. I can't boot from it at all with the proper start up buttons pushed. It keeps trying to boot from the external drive. If I turn the external drive off and try to boot from the external CD I just get the grey file with the ? in the middle of it.
I tried using another external HD I have with OS 10.4 on it, but it won't recognize it either with fan, alt, shift, delete pressed at start up. My internal drive (a Seagate 2 tarabite drive) works great, but how do I reset it as the start up drive when I'm stuck with this black screen. One more thing, when I try to reset PRAM I don't get a second gong.
My brother has the first generation of the iMacs that has a Core duo processor (not Core 2 Duo). Will snow leopard work on it? On Apples site, it says that you need a Intel processor to run Snow leopard, but then below it says you need a 64bit processor which is what he doesn't have.
My mid 2010 iMac i7 will not boot past the apple logo? I'm running 10.7.3. I have tried restoring from TM backup from recovery mode (worked the last time this happened) however upon completion it returns to the recovery screen? I made a disk of Lion when I downloaded the first time (followed same instructions sourced from numerous websites) which does not seem to work when i set to start up from this disk, just gets to the grey screen and flicks between the apple logo, a folder icon with a question mark and the circle with line through? Now I can't eject the disk either, a message appears that system can't eject and to make sure all applications are closed? Not sure how to go about closing these applications without being able to start the system? When I tried booting from the Macintosh HD I got a message that the boot cache partition was faulty? I have ran disk permissions etc all ok.
I've been researching for a while on upgrading my white intel iMac from a "Core Duo" processor to a "Core 2 Duo" processor. The processor I would like to use is a Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T5750 processor, which would give me 2 additional cores as well as a small speed bump from 1.83 ghz to 2.0 ghz. I figured compatibility should be fine considering the FSB speed (667 Mhz) is the same. Has anyone tried this? Can anyone tell me if this will work for sure?
I just bought an iMac with a G4 processor from a friend... The only problem is that apparently some vital file was deleted and as a result, it will not start up. I have a Tiger recovery disc, but because I'm only being shown the gray apple screen and the loading circle, I can't actually use it. Any ideas?
I am a long-time Windows user and I'm making the jump to a Macbook Pro, a very expensive one, at that.I'm getting the highest end 15'' Macbook Pro and I'm adding a 7200rpm 500GB drive. One thing I am worried about is the Intel 2.8ghz processor.
I want to upgrade to 3.06ghz and would like to know the effect it would have on my battery life combined with the 7200rpm.
